A His Life Guide
In the pursuit of Glorifying God & Making Disciples

The theology of fasting is a theology of priorities in which believers are given the opportunity to express themselves in an undivided and intensive devotion to the Lord and to the concerns of spiritual life. This devotion will be expressed by abstaining for a short while from such normal and good things as food and drink, so as to enjoy a time of uninterrupted communion with our Father. Prayer and fasting should not be a burden or a duty, but rather a celebration of God's goodness and mercy to His children. — from gotquestions.org by John Piper

ISAIAH 54:2, 3
2Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.

What is fasting, and should Christians do it?

Each one can reach one. As we follow after Christ, we all can lead one. We can lead one to the Savior, and TOGETHER we will tell the world that Jesus is the WAY, if we EACH ONE, REACH ONE.
——————Prepared by Pastor JR for HLM CHURCH ministries 2014

Fasting is the foregoing of a meal or consumption of food for a predetermined period of time. A follower of JESUS will sacrifice his natural desire for food in order to spend time seeking God regarding a specific issue. The intention is that all the time that would be spent acquiring, preparing and consuming food will, instead, be spent in the presence of God through prayer, worship or meditation on the Word. Also, the heightened sense of awareness obtained through hunger serves as a reminder of the purpose of the fast. The goal is to replace the feeding of the needs of physical hunger with the feeding of one's spiritual hunger by the means of 3For you will intimacy with God. spread out to the Jesus fasted from all food and drink, except water (Luke 4:2). The Bible also describes some extreme times that people fasted right and to the left; from everything, including water. See Exodus 34:28, your descendants Deuteronomy 9:9, Ezra 10:6, Esther 4:16 and Acts 9:9. This type of fast is usually reserved for extreme circumstances. will dispossess There are also "partial fasts" that restrict only certain foods or nations and settle meals. A person may choose to fast through breakfast to allow extra time for prayer and worship. While biblical fasts do refer to in their abstaining from food, I have heard, many times, of people "fasting" from the television [facebook, inter-net, etc]. desolate cities. I am sure that if there had been televisions in Bible days, Jesus would have called everyone to "fast" from them! Please note, however, that a fast, whether partial or absolute, is quite different than giving up something for "Lent." The motive in a fast cannot be that God will find favor with you because you gave up your favorite candy bar. The motive must be the realization that the world has crowded in around you and you need some clarity and some deep intimacy with God. It all comes down to the page intent of your heart. — borrowed from RAPTURE READY articles ONE

As we turn 21 Years old as a church, our prayer is that we will continue to be a movement in the Hands of the Lord Jesus Christ. That we will be a driving force to let others experience the love and salvation found in Christ alone. Our PRAYER and FASTING emphasis days before we turn 21 will be a time to recall, reflect, rebound, renew and be revived in the CALL God has for us TOGETHER! This is a call for all — that all of us, from campuses, church sites, networks and Lifegroups do this corporately. Lets exercise wisdom as we listen; bow down; pray and seek the face of Father God in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit in FASTING and PRAYER. Wisdom, instructions and directions for His honor and glory has to be clear — thus we call all to FAST and PRAY. Let’s spend time with Him. Let’s hear and obey the Lord together. This GUIDE will serve as a tool for every His Life Ministries member together with our regular goers, and friends at church to join this 4-Day humiliation, prayer and fasting event come February 19, 20, 21, and 22 [2014]. Let this be the time of the year when we can corporately consecrate OURSELVES, FAMILIES, MINISTRIES and LIFEGROUPS to God. Let’s believe God to step into every area of our lives in ways beyond what any of us can imagine. Let's believe God for power, purity and praise to be the result of this. Great men and women throughout history has been called by God to humble themselves through fasting and prayer. Fasting is a spiritual weapon God uses to advance His kingdom, change the destiny of nations, spark revival, and bring victory in people's lives. Let’s begin to Pray and Fast believing this is the RIGHT thing to do. Believing you CAN do it. Believing GOD is leading you. Be found reading your BIBLE and PRAYING as we start the STRETCH YEARS of 2014—2015.

Day 2 stretch — FEB 20
Fasting Is A Force In The Spirit World.
When the disciples could not cast out the dumb and deaf spirit of the young son, they asked Jesus, "Why could not we cast him out? And He said unto them, This one can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting" (Mark 9:28,29). Unusual Warfare Requires Unusual Weapons.

You Should Fast To Influence The Judgments Of God Away From Your Children.
David did. "David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth. And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them" (2 Samuel 12:16,17).

Day 3 stretch — FEB 21

You Should Fast To Influence Three Areas Of Your Life.
Ezra, the priest, did. A) Direction. B) Family. C) Finances. "Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of Him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance" (Ezra 8:21).

PRACTICALS as you start your fast on Feb 19 [ WEDNESDAY]:

Day 4 stretch — FEB 22
Your Fasting Births A Season Of Restoration After Loss.
'Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:...and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil. And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, My great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and My people shall never be ashamed" (Joel 2:15,23-26).

Day 1 stretch — FEB 19
You Should Fast Between Major Events Of Your Life.
Jesus did. When He was baptized by John he saw "the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:16,17). Then, Jesus fasted. His next major event was the selection of His disciples. "And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him. And going on from thence, He saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed Him" (Matthew 4:18-22).

Your Geographical Location For Your Assignment Can Be Revealed Following A Fast.
"As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus" (Acts 13:2-4). So the same Holy Spirit that revealed the city and country for their Assignment following a fast is not a respecter of persons. He will honor this Seed of love and deprivation.
