XBOX: How to copy or backup XBOX games to DVD media

Nino's DUMBASS' Guide: Burning XBOX backups to DVD media
You made it, you found what will be the most moron-proof Xbox game copying guide that's out there. Not only that, at the end of the tutorial I list my contact methods incase you need help. Unlike other people, I *answer* my email. It may take a few days at times, but I *WILL* answer it. I wanted to create a guide and a way for total beginner's to get help. I figure, why make people go through trouble if they don't have to? Not EVERYONE is geeky as I am. While some people DO deserve to research on their own and are complete morons, there are people out there who just don't know alot of things and need the extra help in "layman's terms". That's what this is all about. All I ask is that you try. If you do and you still can't get what you need, ask. I may or may not be able to help! This tutorial ONLY covers making backups of your original XBOX games. I'd like to address a few things first: I don't give out any files. I don't answer REALLY stupid questions that a simple Google search would turn up. That being said, read on and enjoy the fruits of MY labor!

Items Needed:
q q q q q q q q q q q

XBOX (I have ver. 1.3) Mod-Chip installed (I have Xecuter 2.2 Lite) EVOLUTION-X Dashboard installed (I am using v .3921) Computer DVD Burner (I use a Yamaha DRU 500) DVD/CD Burning Software (I am using “Fantom CD” v1.2.1) DVD -R or DVD -RW discs (I have IMATION –R & -RW) Cross-over network cable Xbox Game(s) FTP Client Program (I use SmartFTP) GDFImage program (creates ISO's that XBOX can recognize)

The Nutshell Version: 1. FTP into XBOX and access the DVD-ROM 2. Insert game disc 3. Copy ALL files from XBOX DVD drive to a folder on your computer 4. Run GDFIMAGE on the folder containing the game files in order to create an “XBOX FRIENDLY” ISO 5. Burn the ISO onto a DVD disc 6. Put game in XBOX and enjoy!

1 - CONFIGURE YOUR NETWORK SETTINGS (1 of 8)11/30/2003 11:16:07 AM

XBOX: How to copy or backup XBOX games to DVD media

STEP 1: Connect your Xbox to your computer using a *CROSSOVER* cable. The ends should be different. If the ends don't look like this, then chances are it's not a crossover cable.

STEP 2: Make sure your computer and Evolution-X (your dashboard) are configured to have an IP on the same subnet. Check to see if the first three sets of numbers of IP are the same and you have as subnet mask. Assign your XBOX through your evox.ini file which has a section that should look like this: [Network] SetupNetwork = Yes StaticIP = Yes Ip = Subnetmask = Defaultgateway = DNS1 = DNS2 = SkipIfNoLink = No SetupDelay =0

Assign your computer by going to: Control Panel, Network Connections, Local Area Network, Properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties: (2 of 8)11/30/2003 11:16:07 AM

XBOX: How to copy or backup XBOX games to DVD media

BOTH should have a subnet-mask of (for ease's sake). Only worry about the IP address & subnetmask. Gateway & DNS aren't important at this point.

STEP 1: Turn your XBOX on and make sure you're in the main Evolution-X screen (either from a boot CD or from the XBOX hard disk itself). I was unable to FTP into my XBOX if I started any apps or games. (3 of 8)11/30/2003 11:16:07 AM

XBOX: How to copy or backup XBOX games to DVD media

STEP 2: Insert your game into the XBOX and let it read. When it's ready, you'll see “GAME” at the top-right hand corner of the Evolution-X menu screen.

STEP 3: Open up SMART FTP and connect to your XBOX: (4 of 8)11/30/2003 11:16:07 AM

XBOX: How to copy or backup XBOX games to DVD media

STEP 4: Access the “D” drive (your Xbox's DVD rom), select all the files (press CTL-A) copy the contents to your computer by “RIGHT-CLICKING” on your selection and choosing DOWNLOAD, DIRECT, CHOOSE FOLDER. Be sure you have the some space free. Most of the games I play are sports games and so far, they've all been under 3Gb but some (Metal Gear Solid) are bigger!

3 - CREATE AN “XBOX FRIENDLY” ISO FILE (5 of 8)11/30/2003 11:16:07 AM

XBOX: How to copy or backup XBOX games to DVD media

STEP 1: Run GDFIMAGE.EXE in order to create an ISO that you can burn onto a DVD. If you get any errors, more than likely it's a space issue. I was lucky enough not to get another error (other than because I lacked space).

STEP 1: Open up Phantom and choose “Image Burning Wizard”. This will bring up a window where you choose which file you want to burn to DVD. (6 of 8)11/30/2003 11:16:07 AM

XBOX: How to copy or backup XBOX games to DVD media

STEP 2: Configure your burn settings. A lot of places I researched said not to use more than 2x burning so that is what I used. (7 of 8)11/30/2003 11:16:07 AM

XBOX: How to copy or backup XBOX games to DVD media

Once it completes, take it out, and try it. If it doesn't work right away try these things:

1. 2. 3. 4.

Eject and insert disc again. Power down XBOX and power back up (with disc in) Try burning to different media Try the forums at

Tutorials FAQ Bios Encyclopedia

Welcome Anonymous Oops :) First of all thanks for the lots of feedback on X2 4979 bios. A group of individuals using a current setup of a LBA48 bios with a large F partition have been posting that all the data on their F data dissapeared when updating to the 4979.06 We totally had no idea why as we've tested this on many many setups and works perfectly every time. Then it hit us - one very drunken member of Xecuter packed the release of 4979.06 incorrectly. It's actually 4979.67 - DOH ! So apologies to those who've been scratching their heads over the last 24 hours heh. Don't worry using this bios wont effect your drive - simply use the correct 4979.06 which we will be posting shortly. Here is why the F data dissapeared: This ONLY affects users with these setups: If you had a bios with LBA48 patches before and had one BIG F: drive (partition 6 only) and the drive was above 137 gig If you then use 4979.06 you would get an F: and a G: - this would cut your F: to 137 gig and therefore make your directories table invalid bringing you an empty F: drive that is smaller than before and some space behind that could be a G: drive Moral to this story - less alcohol when coding and packing ;) Posted by Xecuter on Sunday, November 16 @ 18:23:57 CST (785 reads) (Read More... | Score: 3.87) Latest 3 Members People Online Register Forgot Password? X2.3 In Stores within the next week After much testing and fine tuning to the PCB design, the X2.3 is now ready for shipping. We've decided to leave the 5v / 3.3v detector LED's as TBH they are not really needed if you are going to be drawing a true power source from the new USB adapter. We've also designed a new LITE programmer to be 2.3 compatible. The LITE+ now uses less pogo pins so the install is practically touble free when also using the new pogo designs. Of course this also means less wires = less chance of a screw up.

Another fix for some reported problems I've seen quite a few posts these last few days about certain games not working or some people and not others. Well after investigation we found that it was down to a corrupt system clock. The game has an AUTOSAVE feature that doesn't work if the clock is all screwed so it either crashes or refuses to load. If you are having these issues go into your MS dash and set your clock manually and try again - you will find this most probably fixes your problem.

Flashx v1.2 Fix ?

Some people seem to be having problems with FlashX v1.2 loading. It seems daMaster on has found the answer. "I've been playing around with FlashX 1.2 to try to make it work and I think I've figured out why it sometimes hangs: if you're using an EvoX bios to boot and you have IGR enabled in evox.ini, FlashX 1.2 will most likely hang. Completely disable IGR in your evox.ini and try again - it works for me only when IGR is disabled!" Click here for the discussion thread.

Xecuter 2.3 Lite Plus Pictures The design is pretty much the same as the 2.3 Lite (New Power Adapter etc.) however we've changed all the pogos too - the LPC points are a little bigger so a firmer connection can be made and also we've added pogos with sharp connections to give a more definate d0 contact. As the power is no longer taken from the LPC this is a much safer no-solder installation than any other current design. (3 of 8)11/30/2003 11:18:39 AM

Romeo and ANDRY from the forums have located the missing LFRAME point on v1.3+ mainboards.

We can confirm this works on v1.3, v1.4 & v1.5. Take note this is definatley not for amateurs - it's very difficult.

Xecuter 2.3 Update

Xecuter is proud to present the first installation friendly mod for all Xbox versions (v1.0 - v1.5). The new adapter taps into the USB port and shares the 3.3v, 5v and Ground. We have also reconfigured the LED's to test for 3.3v and 5v on the LPC bus so you have a clear idea as to what version Xbox you have without having to trundle through the process of any electrical testing. The picture is the Lite version - however the Pro and Lite+ have also been updated with the new "1.5" adapter to ease the installation process. The same installation can be used on all models with 100% functionality. We still of course recommend the pin header installation and as always male pins are supplied and will be used for all future versions of mod from Xecuter including X3 to make any upgrade procedures as painless as possible for all users. Now we've shown a simple solution for this installation issue, hopefully others will employ similar methods to keep things nice and simple for the scene. You can expect this version to be on the shelves in the next few days. (7 of 8)11/30/2003 11:18:39 AM

the CD-ROM drive on your computer by applying emulation technology. You can use it as if it was a real CD-ROM drive. Tasks performed by a traditional CDROM drive can be done by virtual CD-ROM drives. In addition, the virtual CD-ROM drive has many userfriendly functions that are not provided by a normal CDROM drive. For example:

A real CD is not required to be inserted when running a program, so you can avoid the inconvenience of carrying a lot of CDs with you when you are working. Compared to an actual CD-ROM drive, virtual CD-ROM drives are up to 200x faster!
