ADVANCED TRAINING.

Anne Arundel Community College Elizabeth Matarese, CPH These are the Horticultural courses Ill be teaching at Anne Arundel Community College this coming spring 2014. (Yes, spring is coming.and it cannot come too soon). These course hours have been approved for advanced training credit in the Anne Arundel County Master Gardener program. Courses are held in the CALT Bldg.: Easy to get to and park. See AACC map. You can register for them online, www.aacc.edu/noncredit. You can get registration help and information by calling 410.777.2325. The course catalog will also be available at the Extension Office after February 19th, and the registration form is in the catalog. HOR365 PERENNIALS So many plants! So little time to choose from all of them! From the wide selection of perennials that is available, there are many that love shade; many that love sun; many that love a combination. There are some that provide fragrance, and some that provide evening interest and fragrance. And all of them provide beauty and inspiration, lower maintenance, and durability.

HOR 395 PLANTS OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY The eco-systems and the native plants that live in this region illustrate the influences that create a variety of flora habitats. The critical nature of each factor that affects the Bay provides a profound understanding and appreciation of this body of water and the plants that thrive near it. HOR 398 RAIN GARDENING Creating a rain garden with native perennials, including shrubs and grasses, can solve some of the stormwater problems of low-lying areas and beautify a place that would otherwise be thought of as not useful.

INT 321 SHADE GARDENING There are lots of plants that love shade! Some like wet shade; some like dry shade. Some like filtered shade, and some like cool shade rather than warm shade. Creating a garden that provides a respite from summer heat can be a satisfying accomplishment and a restful haven in July and August.

We will depart AACC (the Johnson Building) at 9AM in the AACC van. Individual drivers can meet at the Administrative Offices of the National Arboretum at 10AM. Fascinating Ferns! They can add depth and volume to a shade garden or enhance the feeling of coolness and elegance to a sunny garden. The diversity of this species is often overlooked and neglected. However, they make a unique contribution to a garden when selected and cared for properly.
