6.1.3.4: Combine defect interpretation grade. Area of interpretation where found rounded indication with elongated imperfection or slag inclusion or incomplete penetration, those defect acceptance according to individual table acceptance grade, Final acceptance grade is total up and minus one grade, remaining figure shall be judge as final acceptance grade.

JB 4730 grade II

ASME VIII DIV 1

Rounded indication Wall thickness 5~10mm

Isolated round indication max. allowed 3mm and aggregate indication in any 10 x 10 mm area of interpretation shall not greater than 3mm or aggregate imperfection length not exceeding 3 points ( point system refer to JB 4730 table 6-2)

Aligned rounded indication are acceptable when summation of the diameter of the indication is less than t in the length of 12 t . Elongated indication Incomplete penetration Incomplete fusion Any linear elongated indication distance between two inclusion not greater than 6 L (note 1) ,accumulate length in 12 T (note 2) of weld seam not great than T Not premitted ( JB 4730 para.6.1.3.1.b) Not premitted ( JB 4730 para.6.1.3.1.b) Any elongated indication length 6mm thickness up to 19mm is not permitted. Not premitted ( UW 51) Not premitted ( UW 51)

Rounded indication

Isolated round indication max. allowed 4mm and aggregate indication in any 10 x 10 mm area of interpretation shall not greater than 4mm or aggregate imperfection length not exceeding 6 points ( point system refer to JB 4730 table 6-2)

Imperfection under the following condition are un-acceptable

Wall thickness 10~15mm Any linear elongated indication distance between two inclusion not greater than 6 L (note 1) ,accumulate length in 12 T (note 2) of weld seam not great than T

Elongated indication

Incomplete penetration Incomplete fusion

Not premitted ( JB 4730 para.6.1.3.1.b) Not premitted ( JB 4730 para.6.1.3.1.b)

Not premitted ( UW 51) Not premitted ( UW 51)

Rounded indication

Isolated round indication max. allowed 4mm and aggregate indication in any 10 x 10 mm area of interpretation shall not greater than 7mm or aggregate imperfection length not exceeding 9 points ( point system refer to JB 4730 table 6-2)

Wall thickness 15~25mm Any linear elongated indication distance between two inclusion not greater than 6 L (note 1) ,accumulate length in 12 T (note 2) of weld seam not great than T Not premitted ( JB 4730 para.6.1.3.1.b) Not premitted ( JB 4730 para.6.1.3.1.b) Any elongated indication length 6mm for thickness up to 19mm is not permitted. T for thickness from 19mm to 57mm is not premitted. Not premitted ( UW 51) Not premitted ( UW 51)

Elongated indication Incomplete penetration Incomplete fusion

Note 1: L = Longest elongated indication measured Note 2: T = material thickness Interpretation on JB-4730.: Size of defect allowed slightly is stringent than ASME specified size allowed, however, the most stringent requirement in on paragrapy 6.1.3.4: in area of interpretation where found rounded indication with elongated imperfection or slag inclusion or incomplete penetration, those defect acceptance according to individual table acceptance criteria, Finally, all three defect grade total up and minus one, remaining figure shall be judge as final acceptance grade. Example:

Interpretation according to JB 4730 paragrapy 6.1.3.4, although both defect is acceptable to grade II as per table 6-4 & 6-5 respectively, however, total up this two difference defect is grade II + grade II =grade IV and minus I grade still remain grade III, thus those defect in the box is not achieve grade II requirement and is not acceptable.
