THE PAST – WHAT WE HAVE
ACHIEVED

1st Grid Connected small hydro plant was developed by the private sector in year 1996 with the 0.96MW Dick-Oya Project.
Today we have reached 270MW’s in small hydro, 90MW’s in Wind and collectively over 365MW’s ……. The private sector is contributing 6.3% of energy requirement of the country. Many developers have moved to African countries and have been quite successful.

THE PRESENT    

We produce cheapest energy (except coal) ……
But no NCRE tariff since 1st January 2012 to date. Every year new authorities adding up to get approvals …… Around 50MW’s of small hydro plants running & at construction stage without a tariff.

Plants which have completed 15 years of operation have closed down.
Some of the companies who started this industry is at the verge of closing down their operations. Latest : Payments stopped for NCRE

THE FUTURE 

There is at least another 300MW’s small hydro potential.
Wind potential is significant. Wind farm concept. This is a natural resource of our country.

Policy : 15%by 2015, 20% by 2020, but no targets.
