SAN FRANCISCO CITY HALL is proudly referred to as the “Crown Jewel”
of the city. As long ago as 1915 when this City Hall opened, Mayor James Rolph Jr. proclaimed,“I take pride in this building because it typifies the spirit of San Francisco.Three times she has been destroyed by fire, and each time she has risen more magnificently.” On January 5, 1999, this French Renaissance-style Beaux Arts landmark once again rose like the mythical phoenix. Over 15 years after the Loma Prieta earthquake shook the foundation and cracked the walls, the beautiful dome now soars 306 feet above the ground with its lovingly restored 24-carat gleaming gold for the entire city to enjoy. One of the goals in restoring City Hall was to make it accessible to the people of San Francisco.To this end, the doors of City Hall have been opened to the public for their special events and occasions. Inside you will find a magnificent space to hold any type of event—from simple wedding ceremonies to grand balls. We invite you to come and visit the beautifully restored City Hall and see how it can accommodate all your event needs.

Rotunda

THE ROTUNDA offers a breathtaking marble staircase that is the focal point of any event. It has been restored to its original magnificence, allowing your event to be configured in a variety of ways. The landings on the Grand Staircase make natural “stages” for musicians, speakers, or brides. The balconies on the second level surround the Rotunda and allow your guests to dine or survey the events below. Ornate carvings and the interior of the spectacular dome can be seen from every angle. At night, the Rotunda is awash with soft white lighting that accents the architectural carvings throughout the space.

THE SOUTH LIGHT COURT is similar to the North, the difference being that it houses art exhibits for your guests to enjoy.
This room is ideal for cocktail receptions or press events, and again can be incorporated into a Rotunda event. Luncheons or sit-down functions are also possible.The room has a more intimate feel with the exhibits, and works very well for smaller groups. THE NORTH LIGHT COURT is City Hall’s most versatile room. It is located directly off the Rotunda and can be incorporated into a Rotunda event or rented separately.The room has been restored to its original design with elegant marble walls and skylights spanning the entire 7,000-square-foot space. This room configures for a variety of events from lectures and presentations to elegant dinners or weddings.

galleries provide architecturally stunning venues for smaller gatherings or private events, as well as exclusive reception or seating areas for VIPs in conjunction with Rotunda events.The fourth floor is also ideal for photo shoots or to showcase product for corporate events.

Special wedding package includes personnel costs for an event manager, custodians, laborers, and an engineer. Security during the two-hour rental period is provided by the sheriff deputies and is included in the rental fee. Special wedding package also includes 200 wooden folding chairs and three skirted tables as well as the required general liability insurance for up to 200 guests.

NORTH LIGHT COURT
1 to 200 guests – $5,000 201 to 870 guests – $5,000 plus $4 per person for every guest over 200 North Light Court base rental fee includes a 12-hour rental period (2:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.) inclusive of load-in and load-out times. RESERVATIONS AND PAYMENTS
To guarantee your event date, a deposit of 75% of the base rental fee must be paid when booking your event. The deposit will be deducted from the total bill at the time of settlement. The final balance of payment is due five business days prior to the event.

WEEKDAY LOAD-IN AND LOAD-OUT PROCEDURES
On weekdays, there is no set up in the Rotunda until 4:00 p.m. For evening rentals, the North Light Court set up may begin at 2:00 p.m. and set up in the South Light Court may begin at 4:00 p.m. If more time is required for set up, the Light Courts may be rented on an hourly basis prior to these times at cost of $500.00 per hour, per room. All vendors must use the Grove Street entrance to load in or load out equipment. Prior load in of equipment may be arranged with the approval of the City Hall senior event manager. Vendors with oversized equipment exceeding the size of the freight elevators may use the Van Ness Avenue entrance to load in and load out. Loading times for the Van Ness Avenue entrance must be pre-arranged through the City Hall events department for each event. City Hall deputy sheriffs must be present throughout the entire period of the load in/out. The Light Court Café is open to the public until 5:30 p.m. The café may be bought out and closed for $800 per day. Setups beginning before 5:30 p.m. cannot impede the conduct of business, unless the café has been bought out. Please inform the deputy sheriffs at each entrance if you are parking temporarily to unload equipment for an event. Use only the freight elevators located on the ground floor/Carlton B. Goodlett Street lobby to load and unload equipment into the building. Freight elevators are marked “Freight Use Only.” Vendors must meet with City Hall engineers to receive instructions regarding operation of freight elevators prior to use. Any equipment set up the day before the event needs to be roped off and weighted when appropriate. City Hall does not provide carts, hand trucks, dollies, extension cords, and/or approved Permacel cloth gaffing tape.
