II B.Tech II Semester Examinations,December-January, 2011-2012 STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS-I Civil Engineering Time: 3 hours Max Marks: 80 Answer any FIVE Questions All Questions carry equal marks

1. Draw the bending moment and shear force diagram of a propped cantilever beam of span 6m due to a point load of 6 kN at the mid span. Also draw elastic curve. [16]

2. In the 3-span continuous beam loaded as shown in gure 4. The support B sinks by 30mm. Find the support moments by the slope deection method taking E = 200GN/m2 and I = 382cm4 . Sketch the B.M.D. [16]

Figure 4 3. In a pin Jointed frame shown in Figure 7. The cross sectional area of each member is 1300mm2 and E = 200Gpa. During Fabrication the member EB was made 2mm too long and was forced into plane. Determine the force developed in each of the designer members AD and EB when a vertical load of 60KN in applied at C. [16]

Figure 7 4. Four equal loads of 60kN each, equally spaced at 2m apart followed by a uniformly distributed load of 40kN/m at a distance of 2m from the last 60kN, cross a 1

girder of 20m span from right to left. Using inuence lines, calculate the S.F and B.M at a section 8m from the left support, when the leading 60kN load is 5m from this support. [16] 5. Find the xed end moments for a xed beam of span 6 m subjected to a concentrated clockwise moment of 10 kNm at 2.5 m from the left end. [16] 6. Determine the slope and displacement at D for the beam shown in Figure 8 if E= 2105 N/mm2 , I = 120 x 104 mm4 , using Castiglianos theorem. [16]

Figure 8 7. The dead load on a bridge of 24m span is 25kN/m and a live load of 60kN/m longer than the span, passes over the bridge. Calculate the portion of the bridge over which the shear force changes sign. [16] 8. A two span continuous beam of constant moment of inertia is loaded as shown in Figure 6. Find the support moments using Clapeyrons theorem of three moments. Also plot BM and SF diagrams for the beam. [16]
