Vise Grip Module-Lab View Program

LabVIEW 5.1 was used to create the Main Panel Program and all of the subVIs included in the main panel Program.

Overview:
The purpose of the LabVIEW program was to gi e students a clear and eas! wa! of ta"ing measurements and anal!#ing results from the Vise $rip Module. The panel window contains fi e main areas as can be seen from the picture below. %n the left of the panel contains the readings for a Potentiometer& Load 'ell& and Pressure Transducer.

In the Top Left of the abo e figure are the readings for the ( )train gages. Each gage has a separate numerical read out and is also represented b! a plot on the Wa eform 'hart. Each $age is represented b! a different color& which is listed in the legend.

In the *ottom Left is the Lab )tation 'ontrols. These )witches control the operation of the program.

The Lab )tation )ide *utton+ if !our module is set up on side , !ou choose side , and if !ou are set up on side *& choose side *. The Measurement 'ontrols turn on and off the data ac-uisition for either the )train $age or the Load 'ell& Potentiometer& and Pressure Transducer. The abo e figure shows the Measurement 'ontrols in the %ff position. In this position there is no data being ta"en from either the strain gages or the statics measurements .Load 'ell& Transducer& and Potentiometer/ . In the figure below data is onl! being ta"en from the statics measurements and not from the strain gages. We will see wh! this is important in the proceeding documentation.

The 0ela! represents how -uic"l! the data is ta"en. If the )train gage option is not in use then the time between measurements can run for an! number greater than 511 milliseconds. When the )train $age 'ontrol is on then the data ac-uisition will not ta"e place faster than one reading e er! ( seconds .(111 ms/. The reason for this slow data ac-uisition is that the )'2I31144 module can onl! ta"e one reading e er! second when the ( 5# filter setting is enabled. Thus with ( )train gages it will ta"e ( seconds for the program to read ( gages. The )top and Write to 6ile *utton stops all data ac-uisition and then sa es the data ta"en in an E7cel )preadsheet format. When sa ing& the user must include a .7ls e7tension to the file name. The data is sorted into 8 columns as shown in the e7ample on the ne7t page. When a strain gage is not ta"ing data 9:a:; is displa!ed in the spread sheet.

The ,ngle from Potentiometer bo7 has a red bo7 area with instructions to not disturb the alues. These alues sta! constant for all e7periments. The alues were determined from e-uations in ,ppendi7 6 of the Vise $rip Module Manual. 6or additional anal!sis& instructors can choose to ha e these alues determined b! the student.

The 6orce and Pressure *o7es contain graphs which chart the data being ta"en o er the different time inter als. ,lso each bo7 contains an offset that is used to tare !our reading.

This LabView VI was created during the )ummer 4111 using LabView 5.1. The 0iagram is shown below.
