What is Fiber?
According to the Food and Nutrition Board, fiber is
generally known to be non-digestible plant carbohydrates
plus lignin from the plant cell walls. It is found in foods
that contain a high amount of carbohydrates such as whole
grains, fruits, and vegetables. Youve probably also heard
it called bulk, dietary fiber, or roughageand it is neither
digested nor absorbed by the body after it has been eaten.
Fiber can be found only in plantsnot in animal products. And there are two types of fiberinsoluble and
soluble.
Most foods have both soluble and insoluble fibers
in varying amounts. And both kinds are important. For
example, fruits, vegetables, green beans, wheat bran,
seeds, popcorn, brown rice, and whole-grain products
such as breads, cereals, and pasta, all have insoluble
fiber. Fruits such as apples, oranges, pears, peaches,

grapes and prunes, plus vegetables, seeds, oat bran,


dried beans, oatmeal, barley, and rye are high in
soluble fiber.
Insoluble fiber is fiber that cannot be dissolved
in water, is not digested, and does not get absorbed
into the body. It is a complex of carbohydrates that
are very different than the carbohydrates that make
sugar. They have no calories because the body cant
absorb them.
Therefore, high-fiber foods are magically healthy
because this type of fiber cleans out the intestinal
system by moving stool through. Since it doesnt
dissolve, it sweeps the intestines clean. And it also
balances intestinal pH so that healthy organisms can
be maintained there. The most valuable sources of
fiber are whole grains and wheat bran.
Soluble fiber, such as gum and pectin, dissolves in
water to form a glue-like substance that helps to bind fat
in the intestinal tract, lower cholesterol by binding to it
and removing it from your body, and causes sugar to be
absorbed more slowly into the bloodstream. The effect
of slower sugar absorption keeps insulin surges from
occurring, thereby preventing the tendency to get diabetes
mellitus. Rapid sugar absorption translates into fatigue
and low energy and contributes to nearly every chronic
disease.
And the reduction of cholesterol levels aids in preventing
coronary heart disease and reducing hypertension. For this
benefit, beans and oats are great sources of fiber. So you can
see how important fiber really is in your diet, whether consumed through whole foods or by supplementation.

Healthy Fiber Intake


The Food and Nutrition Board is responsible for
providing nutritional recommendations known as Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs). Although there is
no RDA for fiber, the board has set Adequate Intake (AI)
guidelines which are based on age and gender. The AI
guidelines for fiber are
Men

Women

Between 18 and 50 years


of age, 38 grams per day

Over 50, 30 grams per day

Between 18 and 50 years


of age, 25 grams per day

Over 50, 21 grams per day

But these guidelines are way too low! Even if the U.S.
Surgeon General recommends a diet containing 20 to 35
grams of fiber a day, you can be sure that you should be
trying to consume 75 to 100 grams per day! And guess
what? The average American barely consumes 10 to 15
grams of fiber daily through their diet.
But high fiber foods (not fiber supplements) have been
proven to make a positive and dramatic impact on your
health. Its recommended that you try to eat six servings
of vegetables and three servings of fruit daily. Literally
hundreds of studies support this. The more fiber-filled
foods you eat, the healthier youll be in every aspect of
your health!

Healthy Food Alternatives


Increasing the fiber in your diet is easy and tasty. Just
add some of these foods to your daily food consumption,

or eat more than you already are: Apples, apricots,


berries, beans, bran, oats, broccoli, cabbage, carrots,
legumes, seeds, and nuts. Make a few simple changes
in the type of foods you buy and meals you plan, such
as switching from refined or enriched flour to wholegrain flour.
Some of the choices of whole grains that make up
the flour for great-tasting breads are barley, brown rice,
millet, rolled oats, spelt, rye, and especially wheat (like
cracked wheat and buckwheat). Choose whole grain
types of cereal, as well.
Other ways to high-fiber your diet is by replacing
your fruit juices with whole fruits such as apples,
oranges, grapes, and prunes. And when youre having
potatoes for dinner, put down that peeler and leave those
skins on the potatoes.
Dont devour vegetable dips that are cream-based
exchange them for delicious hummus made from chickpeas.
And out with the iceberg lettuce and in with the dark
green leaf or romaine. Instead of a side of white rice,
swap it for brown rice. And keep that popcorn by your
side for movie nightjust leave off all the butter and
salt and youll be doing something good and delicious
for your health.

A Relationship that Works

these substances need to
be activated and released

stomach acids are produced because the body

Its important to maintain healthy elimination throughout your entire body. You can promote this by eating
whole foods, eating fiber for regular bowel movements,
drinking plenty of water for your kidneys, and exercising
to remove acids through you lungs. The better your overall elimination, the less toxins that will need to be eliminated
later through your skinyour largest organ of waste

If any of the waste removersskin, bowels, lungs, or
kidneysfall down on the job, it puts extra stress on the
others who have to share the load. And the bowels already
carry quite a load. But if all is working well, proper
bowel elimination is considered to be once after each full

intestines might help prevent the onset of Type 1 diabetes.

the mice in a germ-free environment without any of the

the journal Nature. This understanding may allow us to
design ways to target the immune system through altering
the balance of friendly gut bacteria and protect against
diabetes.

patients in hospitals from nasty infections as antiseptics.
A study conducted by Bengt Klarin and colleagues from
the University Hospital in Lund, Sweden, found that swabbing the mouths of critically ill patients on ventilators with

(generally found in saliva, sauerkraut, and other pickled
foods) was just as effective as those swabbed with antiseptics.

How to Get Your Bowels

Colon disease does not just happen. It begins and ends
with bad food. It is appalling what Americans eat believing
that they are eating food. Commercial food processors are
subjecting the public to a progressively degenerating state
of food adulteration and sophistication to the point where it
is now practically impossible to buy wholesome foods at a
public supermarket. Americans are unaware of this crisis.
They are sick and they are getting sicker.
Commercial foods are most of those pretty packaged
foods that line the supermarket shelves. Here is what they
do to us:
When we eat them, we feel full for awhile and then
hunger motivates us to eat more. We actually begin to
starve as we eat more and more.
Commercial foods are mostly acid pH and acid foods
are addictive. You have to eat more and more because you
are never satisfied. Note that children raised on junk foods
wont eat anything raw or natural. This is because they
have developed an addiction and dependency on acid pH
foods. After a few years, the body succumbs to progressive
acid saturation of the blood cells and tissues and disease
appears. A crisis of toxemia has begun. We call it disease.
Commercial foods are dead foods. They have a very

slow transit time in the colon. Ninety-nine times out of a


hundred the stomach and the bowels are full of undigested
foods and putrifaction (rot). The symptoms are stomachache,
headache, constipation, and bloat. Then the doctor gives us
drugs for pain which further checks the elimination process.
Man, the master of the earth, has an epidemic of colon
problems because of his diet. We are victimized by mass
advertising of commercial foods.
Commercial foods cause overeating because we are
never satisfied. We have an ongoing sensation of hunger.
Overeating is seriously detrimental to health. The more we
eat, the more we burden our system of elimination. It has
been conclusively shown that elimination is more important than feeding. The maintenance of vital health is more
intimately and immediately dependent upon elimination
than upon the constant supply of new food intake, especially
commercial supermarket foods.

Regeneration is always going on. Experiments have consistently shown that the less one eats, the longer one tends
to live and that as food intake is gradually diminished, the
intraorganic adaptive functions of the organism adjust the
glands to the lower volume of food. If this course is continued, the time will come when a large meal, such as we
were formerly accustomed to eating, will be such a burden
on the digestive system as to cause much discomfort, if
not illness.
During World War I, the Carnegie Institute conducted a
series of experiments that proved that less food is better. A
group of healthy young men, some of whom were athletes
were kept for months on a diet of very spare proportions
that reduced the men to 10 percent below the weight that
they had maintained on their regular diet, although none of
them were fat.
On the lean diet, the men developed into about the same
physical condition as the wiry, rawboned men of the type that
live longest. Yet on the meager diet there was no evidence of
any loss of physical power. Many studies and measurements
were made which did not show any marked physical changes
with one exception, and that was favorable. In every case
there was a marked decrease in pulse rate, accompanied by
lower blood pressure. These are good signs.
The test showed that the most certain and striking
effect of a spare diet is that of decreasing the labor of vital
organs, of the heart and circulatory system, of the stomach
and bowels, of the liver and kidneysof all organs of
elimination that break down so early in life from the
excessive burden of overeating.
Constipation: Nearly every man, woman, and child

living in America today is constipated. Yes, they are constipated whether they know it or not. Yes, constipation even
though the bowels may move regularly every day. Even
people with chronic diarrhea suffer from one form of
constipation.
Constipation is a condition in which ones feces are
packed together. Bowel movements may expel with much
strain very hard feces, while at the same time the walls of
the colon may be lined with old, hardened feces that stay
there for years. Constipation is so common and has been
for so long a time that it is considered normal. The medical
profession does not recognize the problem, let alone the
public. Constipation means that there is a constant accumulation of poisons in the body giving a sluggish response to
life. Mental acuity and clarity of mind begin to deteriorate.
All health practitioners who have made a study of colon
health say that a bowel movement after each meal is very
desirable for health. Ideally there should be enough moisture in our stools that the entire contents of fecal matter
should pass out of the body very quickly within seconds
after one sits on the toilet. Anytime it takes 10 minutes or
more to complete a bowel movement, you are for sure
constipated. A healthy persons stools will float.
Yes, a bowel movement after every meal means fast
transit time of the elimination process and very fast movement of toxins out of the body. Incidentally the faster the
transit time, the lower the cholesterol.
The shorter the transit time in the colon, the healthier
we are. The longer material remains in the colon, the more
moisture is absorbed from it and the more dry and pressed
together it becomes. Then old feces builds up in the pockets of the colon and the small intestines. When we get into

this stage, special techniques are needed to dissolve the


mass that has become stuck to the walls of the colon.
Actually it is a good sign if stools pass quickly through
the body once you sit down on the toilet.
Laxatives are not the answer. A laxative does nothing to
render stagnant material in the colon free enough to flow
out of the body. Once a laxative has passed through the
colon, the bowels will still be just as sluggish as ever.
Laxatives do nothing to clean the colon or help it function
better. And your body will develop a dependency upon
laxatives. Colon cleansing is the answer to a clogged colon.
The best and simplest method is fiber.
Diarrhea is another colon problem and it is usually due
to the presence of irritation in the colon. Yes, diarrhea can
also be caused by buildup of fecal matter on the colon wall
just as in constipation. Here again colon cleansing with a
good fiber formula is very effective.
Chronic diarrhea is often due to the presence of parasites
in the system. Intestinal parasites thrive in filthy environments. In this situation a good fiber formula comes to the
rescue expelling parasites along with old putrid, decaying
matter bonded to the colon walls and small intestines.
Many people are packed with a lifetimes accumulation
of old, hardened feces. This means that they are full of

Practically all colons today are deformed because of a


constant diet of commercial demineralized and acid foods.
As these foods are consumed continuously, the colon wall
muscle degenerates and deteriorates, resulting in weak,
flabby, and sagging walls. The colon no longer possesses
the muscle tone to keep it strong and to hold its normal
shape; so it stretches, lengthens, and loops.
When the colon is ballooned, it holds and catches more
and more old feces. This causes more and more straining
causing hemorrhoids and varicose veins.
The complications of a clogged colon are many. Another
serious problem is that nutrients cannot be absorbed.
Therefore, we begin to suffer malnutrition no matter how
much good food we eat. Proteins, vitamins, and enzymes
cannot pass through the hardened caked walls of the colon.
As people begin to feel weak, they begin to take vitamins.
Most of the time these vitamins are synthetic.
Synthetic vitamins are chemicals and they complicate
the whole health process. Remove the accumulation of
material from the body and the body will again begin to
utilize nutrients from whole foods. Improving nutrient
absorption is much more effective than taking vitamins.
The reward is that after a good cleaning program we eat
less, digest better, and smaller quantities of food satisfy.
A buildup of decaying matter in the colon amounts to
self-poison or autointoxication. If not reversed, we begin to
die. The key to health reversal is to speed up transit time.
This will immediately stop putrefaction, stagnation, and
expel most intestinal parasites. This must be done to restore
health. A clean colon and fast transit time means health.

A small jar of powdered sulphur.
A few wool rags.
An old churn 18 to 24 inches high. If you dont have
an old churn, get a metal bucket 18 to 24 inches high or
any container that you can sit down on to expose the external hemorrhoids. Make sure it is not plastic. The reason a
churn is best is because it will not transmit heat very fast.
A pair of old shorts or underwear.
Now that you have everything, take the old shorts or
underwear and cut a hole just big enough to expose your
hemorrhoid area. Then put them on. Now, put two or three
wool rags in your churn or bucket. Sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of powdered sulphur over the rags and set afire. It
will blaze up, so just drop a match in. Dont put your
hand close to the materialit will burn you.
Let the materials burn for about 30 seconds to a minute
or just long enough for it to really start smoking well. Next,
put the fire out completely by smothering it. And finally,

plans to stay in for a day or two, and DONT EAT ANY
SOLID FOOD AFTER NOON on the start day of the
treatment. DONT HAVE ANY FLUIDS AFTER 6:30 PM

2 cups cold pressed virgin olive oil

Stomach Acid: Dont Leave
Home Without the Right One
There are two kinds of stomach acidthe good and the
bad. The good is called hydrochloric acid (HCl), and the
bad is called organic acids of fermentation. When there is
not enough of the good HCl to digest food, the bad organic
acids of fermentation appear to cause all the trouble.
Everybody over age 50 is low on good stomach acid. This
creates the huge antacid industry that gives false comfort
and false hope. Its advised to take two, four, or six betaine
HCl, whatever achieves comfort, so be sure to carry it
around with you not those dangerous and damaging
antacids or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Prilosec or
Nexium. However, it is important to understand that the
need for betaine varies according to stomach conditions.
Acids of fermentation are products of decomposition.
These are very harmful acids and they become a monkey
wrench in the machinery of health causing acidosis, which
is systemic poisoning. The only way to rebalance the body
is with hydrochloric acid which greatly stimulates immunity.
As we become seniors we all begin to lose that life-giving
and life-preserving substance from our stomachs called

it slightly alkaline (7.2 to 7.6) for optimal health. But the
stomach is very acid, as low as a pH of 3 or 4, if normal.
The amount of hydrochloric stomach acid we have is
directly related to how well we digest and assimilate our food.
It follows that food assimilation is basic to health. As the years
pass, we silently lose stomach acid. This is the cause: Acid
indigestion, heartburn, and acid reflux are the symptoms and
deteriorating health is the effect. But we never relate the loss
of stomach acid to developing health problems.
