Blue Suede Dinner and Auction a Success! About 2,000 people crowded the Carl Perkins Civic Center on Saturday, February 22, 2014 for the 20th Annual Blue Suede Spectacular to benefit the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Organizer Kirk Newcom and team had a goal of raising about $300,000 for child abuse prevention, which they knocked out of the park. The team sought a change of pace from the country acts of recent years as they planned the musical entertainment for this year. Classic rock group Three Dog Night performed at the dinner and auction. Three Dog Night is not a tribute band, but includes original members of the group, which is celebrating its fourth decade. Some of the bands hits include Joy to the World, Black and White, and Celebrate. Over the years, the Blue Suede Spectacular has raised more than $1 million to help the children and families served by the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
