Various Applications Germany

Metallbau Eisenach
Background: A black SolarWall ® system was integrated into the southfacing glass exterior of this manufacturing facility. The SolarWall panels shade the south wall and the heat is ducted to the north end of the building, displacing a significant portion of the conventional heating load and creating a more consistent indoor air temperature throughout the building. System Size: 220 m2 (2,370 ft2) Air Delivered: 2,000 m3/h (1180 cfm) Energy Savings: Approximately 40,000 kWh per year. CO2 Displacement: Approximately 44 tons each year, and 440 tons since the system was installed in 1997.

Erlangen City Hall
Background: The municipal government incorporated a SolarWall system into the front façade of their new city hall building. As a result of the new “Greet Heat” objectives set out by the European Union, lowering energy consumption and reducing CO2 emissions are becoming prominent considerations when designing buildings, and the SolarWall technology was deemed to be an excellent fit for this application. System Size: 150 m2 (1,600 ft2) Air Delivered: 5100 m3/h (3000 cfm) Energy Savings: 60,000 kWh per year. CO2 Displacement: 30 tons each year, which was a major factor in approving this solar air heating technology over liquid collectors.

WIWOG Wohnbaugesellschaft
Background: An attractive SolarWall system was mounted over the balconies in this apartment complex to preheat the ventilation air for the common areas. A portion of the energy is also ducted into a heat pump to heat water during the summer months. System Size: 240 m2 (2,600 ft2) Air Delivered: 10,000 m3/h (5,900 cfm) Energy Savings: Approximately 96,000 kWh per year. CO2 Displacement: 48 tons each year, and 432 tons since the installation in 1998.

Kopp Verlag
Background: The SolarWall system pre-heats the ventilation air required in this industrial facility. System Size: 128 m2 (1,380 ft2) Air Delivered: 4,800 m3/h (2,800 cfm) Energy Savings: Approximately 51,200 kWh per year. CO2 Displacement: Over 25 tons each year.

Geraer Verkehrsbetriebe
Background: The City of Gera incorporated a SolarWall system into the south and east walls of their municipal bus garage to displace the conventional energy load. To publicize their building integrated solar heating system and raise awareness about the city’s commitment to solar energy, a very visible “SolarWall” sign was affixed to the metal cladding. System Size: 715 m2 (7,700 ft2) Air Delivered: 110,000 m3/h ( 64,700 cfm) for the paint shop; 26,000 m3/h (15,300 cfm) for the paint preparation hall; 4,900 m3/h (2,900 cfm) for the eating area; and 5,000 m3/h (2,900 cfm) for the work floor. Energy Savings: The energy delivered is approximately 286,000 kWh per year. At the time of installation in 1998, the system was approved with a 2 year payback. CO2 Displacement: Approximately 143 tons each year, and over 1200 tons since the installation in 1998.

Realschule Haag
Background: The SolarWall system is being used to pre-heat the required ventilation air for this sporting and recreation facility. System Size: 330 m2 ( 3,560 ft2) Air Delivered: cfm) 12,000m3/h (7,600

Energy Savings: Approximately 132,000 kWh per year. CO2 Displacement: 66 tons each year, and over 300 tons since the installation in 2002.

Stadtwerke Rottenburg
Background: The SolarWall system was incorporated into the front façade of this bus garage to preheat the required ventilation air. System Size: 80 m2 (860 ft2) Air Delivered: cfm) 4,800 m3/h (2,800

Energy Savings: Approximately 32,000 kWh per year. CO2 Displacement: Approximately 16 tons each year.

Stadtwerke Göttingen
Background: This was the very first SolarWall installation in Germany. The solar panels were installed during a retrofit on this 150 year old power station building. The SolarWall system is used to pre-heat combustion air. System Size: 370 m2 (3,980 ft2) Air Delivered: 50,000 m3/h (29,400 cfm) Energy Savings: 148,000 kWh per year. CO2 Displacement: 75 tons each year, and over 1,000 tons since the installation in 1993.
