Important Dates for March

Library: We will visit the school library on March 4, 12, and 21. Please make sure that your child returns both of his/her books before these dates so that 2 new books may be signed out! Tuesday, March 4: Shrove Tuesday & Pyjama Day Students will be served pancakes in the Gym at 1:00 pm. Remember to wear your pyjamas! Wednesday, March 5: Spring photos & Ash Wednesday Grade 1 students will have their spring photos taken at 9:00 am (students in other grades will have their photos taken on Thursday). We will also attend an Ash Wednesday liturgy at St. Bede at 2:00 pm. Parents are welcome to join us! Thursday, March 6: Heritage Park & progress reports We will be going on a field trip to Heritage Park! We will be leaving St. Bede at 9:00 am and leaving Heritage Park at 2:30 pm. Please make sure that your child brings a healthy snack and lunch and a water bottle and wears weather-appropriate clothing, since we will need to move outside between locations. Term 2 progress reports will also come home today. Tuesday, March 11 to Monday, March 17: Scholastic book fair Thursday, March 13 and Friday, March 14: Parent-teacher interviews Interviews are requested with all parents. Please book a time through Conference Manager (https://stbede.schoolsoft.ca/login.jsf). There is no school for students on Friday, March 14. Tuesday, March 18: Quest Theatre presentation Division I students will attend a presentation by Quest Theatre at 11:30 am in the Gym. Monday, March 24 to Friday, March 28: Spring break There is no school for students from Monday, March 24 to Friday, March 28. Have a great break!

Our focus for each subject area this month will be as follows: Word Work - Phonemic/phonological awareness - Reading and writing high frequency words - Using familiar words and word patterns to spell new words Readers Workshop - Non-fiction text features - Comparing fiction and non-fiction texts - Non-fiction book clubs

Writers Workshop - Including our voice when we write - Writing non-fiction texts

Math Workshop - Measurement (length/height, weight, capacity, area) using non-standard units of measurement - Addition and subtraction to 20

Inquiry - How can we create, separate, and sort colours and coloured objects? - How does the history of my family and community affect who I am today?

Religion and Health - Your will be done: Preparing our hearts for Easter through Lent - Self-awareness and choice: How does my body show my feelings? How can I manage my own feelings?

Art - Texture: Rubbings, paper weaving, media exploration - Introduction to line: Class colouring book, calligraphic lines, still life pencil drawings
