Please see reporter message below. The main question; are classroom TV's actually broadcasting the meeting into classes? Will staff cover classes or parent volunteers? I’m requesting a response from WCPSS today regarding the planned teacher Walk-In at Lacy Elementary on November 4th. According to the PTA letter sent to parents, the event is planned from 8-9 a.m. Will this take place during school hours? Will it be broadcast on TVs throughout the school as the letter indicates? Will school staff be substituting in classrooms while teachers participate? Below is the text from the PTA letter we received from a parent:

First email: Good afternoon. On Monday, November 4th, there will be a teacher walk-in at Lacy to demonstrate the importance of our teachers and public education in North Carolina. The PTA is working to provide classroom coverage that morning so that teachers can gather in the multi-purpose room with parents and other community members from 8am to 9am. Note that this will be broadcast on the televisions in the classrooms so that no one in the building will miss it.

We are in need of one (or two) parent volunteer to cover each of the 3rd – 5th grade classrooms from 7:45am – 9am on Monday morning. I am copying the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade room reps so that you are aware of this event, but you are not needed in the classroom since the teacher assistants will cover those grade levels. For the 3rd – 5th grade room reps, please use the following SignUp Genius to sign up your volunteers so that we can ensure all rooms are covered on Monday morning.

Please contact Tish Hamilton ( or me with any questions. Thank you very much!

Second email: Thank you all for offering to help next Monday, November 4th. At this time, we no longer need parental involvement in the classroom. It is our understanding that a walk-in will still take place; however, at this time the classrooms will be taken care of by Lacy staff members. The Walk-in is not a PTA event as we stand bipartisan in all that we do. This school wide event is intended to be an educational assembly to inform and share out within our school and community on how educators value public education in North Carolina. Our teachers want to hold an educational forum in lieu of a statewide NCAE Walk Out Day, scheduled for November 4th. They are truly dedicated to our children and have asked for the support of the Lacy Community. Additional details will be sent from the school once finalized. Please let your classrooms know that we will no longer need volunteers on Monday. Tish & Christine
