Draper Elementary is hosting Literacy Week March 10-14 in an effort to celebrate students love for reading and writing. Students will be working on class and grade-level projects, be read to by guest readers, and participate in a school-wide reading contest. The contest involves the entire school reading 50,000 minutes in five days! Contact your room parent or classroom teacher if you would like to be a guest reader during the week. We need readers 15-20 minutes each of the four days. Readers are asked to choose a story/picture book to read aloud to the class. The story can be a favorite book from childhood, or have a message about literacy. Watch for more details about the specifics of the schoolwide reading contest. !

This school year, and in particular, this past month, has been action-packed with learning for both students and staff! Together we have been working on targeting and improving our academic skills and supporting students with positive attendance and behaviors. Draper students have been demonstrating their achievement through class presentations, demonstrations, and projects. We have been so impressed with the efforts of learning, creativity, kindness, and leadership shown by our students. SEP (Student Education Plan) Conferences will be held March 4 and March 6 -- we look forward to sharing with you then your students successes. March 10-14 is Draper Elementarys Literacy Week. We will be celebrating our love for reading and writing through class and gradelevel projects, guest readers, and a school-wide reading contest. Our goal as a school is to read 50,000 minutes in five days -- thats a lot of reading practice! I am proud of Draper teachers and staff and the incredible dedication they have for improving their craft, and most importantly how their work will positively impact the children. Draper is a high achieving school because of the work that teachers and staff do each day, and the home connection and partnership we have with YOU! Thank you! !Piper Riddle, Principal

Beginning in April, our students in grades 3-5 will take new, online tests required by the State Board of Education. SAGE (Student Assessment of Growth and Exchange) tests are designed to measure the new Utah Core Standards in math and English language arts and Utahs science standards. The SAGE tests will replace the CRTs (criterion references tests). The State Board of Education requires Utah students to take the SAGE tests every year. The state will report the overall test results each fall. These tests cannot be compared to the old CRT scores since they are a different measurement of achievement. Practice tests are available at www.sageportal.org and include multiple choice questions, writing prompts and experiments.
