Workshop 8B Transient Analysis of a Gantry Crane

14.5 Release

ANSYS Mechanical Linear and Nonlinear Dynamics

2012 ANSYS, Inc. March 28, 2013 1 Release 14.5

Goals
This workshop consists of a gantry crane assembly. The crane is rated to carry a 5 tons weight. The purpose of this workshop is to compare the full transient method versus the mode superposition method.

Assumptions
Well assume supports # 1 to 3 are fixed in all direction, whereas support # 4 is allowed to move in the x- direction.
A weight of 5 tons (50,000 N) is applied using remote force, and is scoped to the middle of the horizontal beam.
