China overdoes cloud seeding to end drought... and blankets Beijing in snow
By Mail Foreign Service UPDATED: 14:11 EST, 2 November 2009

Chinese weather scientists were embarrassingly caught out by a sudden cold snap yesterday. They had decided to 'seed' clouds with chemicals to produce rain and ease a drought in Beijing. The operation went exactly as they had hoped - except that temperatures dropped sharply and the precipitation fell as snow. It kept going for half the day, blanketing the capital's streets and hitting air and road travel. It was the earliest snow in Beijing for ten years.

It was helped by temperatures as low as -2C (29 Fahrenheit) and strong winds from the north, Xinhua news agency reported. 'We won't miss any opportunity of artificial precipitation since Beijing is suffering from the lingering drought,' the report quoted Zhang Qiang, head of the Beijing Weather Modification Office, as saying at the end of last week.

Playtime: Children make the most of the snow

Chinese meteorologists have for years been honing the technique of making rain by injecting special chemicals into clouds. Although the technique often gets results, a drought in the north of the country has continued for over a decade. Besides the snow, which the Beijing Evening News said was the earliest to hit the capital in 10 years, the cold weather and strong winds also delayed air travel from Beijing's Capital Airport.

In the western world the population are blamed for all the 'freak' weather and then taxed more! 4 31 Click to rate Steve, Bedford, 4 years ago I had never heard of chem-trails until today. Do research into Cloud Seeding in Devon, UK (experiments were done back 50 some years ago) it destroyed half of the towns houses. killed far too many people. And was denied all the way to the bank. Dont knock it...but don't trust the use of it either! 4 26 Click to rate

Philip Jones, Frangy, France, 4 years ago Cloud seeding has been on the increase even in the US since 2005. Thailand has been doing it for 50 years. They have gotten very good at it which is just as well since drought was a serious problem and a lot of people would have died. Thailand is now the largest exporter of rice in the world, thanks, in no small way, to their efforts in this field. The chemicals vary but mostly dry ice (carbon dioxide) and silver iodide. Silver iodide is also found in table salt. Dont knock cloud seeding.....Its already helped to avert a lot of disasters. 7 23 Click to rate Chris, Yorkshire, 4 years ago Which came first the arrogance or the scientist? 24 45 Click to rate

Hope, London, 4 years ago JDP the Idiot in Southhampton. The evidence is SO abundant for "chemical" aerosols that truly only a dolt could ignore it. It must be very comforting for the deniers to be in total agreement with their respective governments and militaries. Hope in London. Go to hell. MrB, Farmington, NH USA, 03 Ah, Mr B Farmington, you are indeed a scholar and a gentleman. I will indeed proceed directly to Hell as you desire, doubtless you know the exact location and its origins. I feel certain that on my arrival you will be there to greet me. Let's not correspond, you must be far too busy keeping the planet revolving around your good self. 8 62 Click to rate Jon, Kent, 4 years ago How entertaining! The Chinese have sown the seeds of something but it seems to have created more of a storm! Poor Hope in London gets a dogs abuse for asking people to be civil whilst the others argue the toss over whether we're all going to die a horrible chemical death or drown due to natural rainfall. Cheer up boys and girls! It might be sunny tomorrow (or rainy if that's what you want.) 2 20 Click to rate MrB, Farmington, NH USA, 4 years ago JDP the Idiot in Southhampton. That's why they're called "chemtrails" and "chemclouds" you stupid moron. If you can't tell the difference between a genuine contrail and chemtrail/chemcloud, you're hopeless. Don't forget your vaccination. - MrB, Farmington, NH USA, 2/11/2009 22:07 MrB, aeroplanes produce CON trails, Poorly educated paranoid conspiracy theorists produce CHEM trails. If only we could all tell the difference between the two like you, we could protect ourselves by donning tin hats and heading for the hills everytime we spot them.
