How do you beat the two-time defending state champions, the Malta Mustangs, for the Northern B Divisional

title? Simply shoot the lights out, which is exactly what the Scotties did. Keil Krumwiede, at left, was 7-13 from two-point range, 4-7 on his three-pointers and 3-3 from the foul line for 21 points. Jason Thibault, at right, was 6-11 from two-point range, 2-4 with the bomb and 4-6 from the foul line for 18 points. Then you have Lane Herbert who quietly went 4-5 from two-point range and made his one and only threepoint attempt. And Gage Legare hit two of his three field goals attempts. Teamwise the Scotties shot 22-41 (53.7%) from inside the three-point line and 8-13 (62%) from beyond the arc to take the Mustangs down 62-59. Glasgows largest lead was 53-45 at the 3:30 mark of the fourth quarter. What made it so hard to defend the Scotties throughout the tournament is that the opponents had no one to key on

Some mighty fine stats

defensively every Scotty jersey on the floor could light it up at any given moment. In semifinal action against Rocky Boy, Thibault burned the Morning Stars for 26 points (7-13 FG, 4-7 3 PT, 8-8 FT) while Herbert added 22 points on very similar stats (6-10, 4-7, 6-8). Chase Fossum had 11 points and was 5-9 from the field. In their opener with Choteau, the Scotties hit a respectable 49% of their field goals. Krumwiede had game-high honors with 17 points (5-9 FG, 7-8 FT), Fossum had 15 points (7-10 FG, 1-1 FT), Herbert contributed 13 points (3-7 FG, 1-2 3 PT, 6-6 FT), and Jake Page added 13 points (3-11 FG, 7-11 FT). Jake Kolstad was also a key factor with nine points on 2-2 field goals, 1-1 from three point range and 4-5 from the charity stripe. If the Scotties can stay this hot and play the intense defense they have displayed throughout the season, they could be coming home from Bozeman a very happy team.
