2014 Spring Training: 1-0, 2.22 in 2 GS this spring...worked 2.2 IP and was hurt by defense 3/3 at CIN (2.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB,2 K)... made Cactus League debut 2/27 vs. SD, facing just 7 batters in 2.0 innings (aided by double play) in the Mariners Spring Training opener. Went 5-3 with a 4.98 ERA (40 ER, 72.1 IP) in 14 G/13 GS over two stints with the Mariners last season. Outrighted to AAA Tacoma on Dec. 23, 2013 after being designated for assignment (Franklin Gutierrez signed as free agent). Split minor league season between AA Jackson (4-4, 3.90 ERA, 16 G/16 GS) and AAA Tacoma (1-2, 3.94 ERA, 15 G/2 GS). Is 1-2 with a 5.60 ERA (17 ER, 27.1 IP) in 24 Major League games combined between Detroit (2011) and Seattle (2011, 2013). Originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the supplemental first round (48th overall) in the 2010 June Draft out of the University of Texas. He was acquired by the Mariners as the player-to-be-named later in a 6-player trade with the Tigers on July 30, 2011.
