Peter Foster Media Statement regarding 2014 WA Senate By-Election

In mid-2013 I was successful in gaining pre-selection for the Australian Labor Party on the Senate ticket in 3rd position to represent the party in the Senate. Following the contest of the Senate election result, in late 2013 the National Executive of the Australian Labor Party passed a resolution to support the previous Western Australian candidates in their previous pre-selected ballot positions. As a consequence of this resolution I was again offered a position on the Senate ballot. After serious consideration and a somewhat heavy heart, I’ve decided to withdraw from the 2014 WA Senate Australian Labor Party pre-selection process to make way for other committed candidates. My partner Samuel & I have been blessed with a baby boy, Roman, born to us on 11th February 2014, shortly before the WA Senate by-election date was announced. I do not have the capacity to commit myself to full time campaigning for a second WA Senate campaign at this time. Family must come first. I remain very committed to the Australian Labor Party; very committed Labor values and principles. I thank everyone whom has personally supported me since 2013. You’ve make me proud to be Labor. I wish Joe Bullock, Louise Pratt and Shane Hill the very best on April 5th. The WA Senate by-election is WA’s chance to tell Tony Abbott and Colin Barnett we don’t support their cuts to education and health.
