Applied Language Solutions are proud to be awarded the ISO 18001 accreditation for Health and Safety management. This comes just over three months since the company was awarded ISO 14001 for Environmental management. This certification is supported by the Government and recognised world-wide, yet has only been achieved by less than 1% of UK businesses. Putting Applied Language at the forefront of the translation industry in being the only translation and interpretation company to meet the accreditation standards. As a company, they recognise that a pro-active approach to Health and Safety Management benefits both staff and the company. A healthy and safe work environment obviously contributes to a reduction in the risk of incidents, making for more secure and productive staff whilst also decreasing the cost associated with accidents in the work place. Said a delighted Gavin: “We work in a very competitive market and have to earn the trust and respect of our customers to ensure they choose our service. This service is provided by our staff and we recognise that every member of the team is our greatest asset. The addition of ISO 18001 to the quality and environmental management systems already in place is further evidence of our dedication to staff welfare and to providing customers with a service of optimal quality, price and delivery.” “At any individual level, employees with high levels of health and safety awareness and skills are not only a valuable asset to them themselves, but also to their colleagues and the business. Obviously, the most significant benefit from through monitoring health and safety at work is returning home at the end of the day in the same condition as that enjoyed in the morning.” Tony Lavin, who undertook the assessment for QMS Quality Management Systems, paid particular tribute to “the investment in people and training that enables Applied Language to provide an efficient and Occupational Health and Safety aware service to their customers.” Applied Language have always been proud of the consistent high quality service they’re able to provide through treating staff in the best possible way. The company is Investors in People accredited, and also go beyond statutory obligations to offer a unique benefits scheme that actively encourages improved healthcare and stress reduction amongst staff. Providing staff with free healthy lunches, fresh fruit, a fortnightly 20-minute massage and an annual “duvet” day on which to stay at home in bed are among the unconventional ways that help to keep stress levels under control in the fast-pace translation industry. To add to this, each staff has also been provided with a company funded health plan. Richard Michie, Head of Marketing, said: “Knowing that our employers are conscious of our health and safety at work and have put systems in place to ensure the best possible working environment is a great motivator. It makes everyone feel valued and a respected member of the team.”
