Dear Canyon View Families, SY 14-15 Registration:
Thank you to everyone who has submitted their 2014-2015 student registration materials. Having the materials submitted in a timely manner allows us to make accurate class placements and determine staffing needs for the upcoming school year. During the last few weeks of school, we will begin placing children into classes for the following school year. With this in mind, a “Parent Input for Student Placement” form will be sent home with your child on Friday, March 21. If you feel that you have any specific information you would like to provide to help us in placing your child, please fill out the form and return it to the front office by April 7. You only need to fill out the form if you have a concern or something that you feel needs to be taken into consideration. Please do not request a specific teacher.

March 1, 2014 Canyon View Elementary School in the Catalina Foothills School District is holding its SpringA-Thing and Silent Auction fundraiser on Friday, May 2, 2014. This event, featuring games, food, a book fair, and music, is attended by over 700 parents, grandparents, friends, and family, raising approximately $14,000 in past years. In order to be successful again this year, we need your help! Please consider making a donation for the silent auction. The money raised supports the Canyon View Family Faculty Organization which benefits every student through extracurricular opportunities like field trips, spelling bees, school assemblies, and artist-in-residence programs. It also funds major school improvement projects such as new playground equipment and shade structures. Generous donor support has helped us add a geography bee; a beginning steel drum band; a glee club; math, science, and computer activities; a book club; and a running/walking club. Donors and donations will be recognized at the auction, in flyers, and in the school newsletter which reaches over 400 families. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Donations are 100% tax deductible. Please fill out a donation form, make a copy for the donor’s records, and turn in the original form with the donation. Contributions may be mailed or dropped off in the school office on or before Monday, April 28, 2014, to the following address: Spring Silent Auction Committee Canyon View Elementary School 5725 N. Sabino Canyon Tucson, AZ 85750 If you have any questions or need a donation picked up, please call Mimi Kross, Silent Auction Chair, at (520)529-1358. Thank you for your support of Canyon View Elementary School. Your donation will put smiles on kids’ faces for years to come!

The mission of the Canyon View Family Faculty Organization (FFO), an organization dedicated to helping every child be successful in the 21st Century, is to ensure each child's intellectual, emotional, social, physical and creative best by harnessing the necessary resources of our parents and community, through activities which stimulate growth and curiosity by modeling civic responsibility, while promoting respect and collaboration within a caring, nurturing environment.

This year’s silent auction will be held from 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in the MPR on Friday, May 2nd during Spring-A-Thing . BUY IT NOW pricing will be available on all items, including class baskets, so you can get the items you want without bidding! (As per district policy, NO STUDENTS will be allowed to bid on silent auction items. ONLY ADULTS can win items for kids.) If you or someone you know would like to donate to the silent auction, please use the silent auction letter and donation form. Copies are in the front office. We mail solicitation letters to our most frequent donors, but your personal touch with a favorite business can make a big difference in the number of items we can offer at the auction. If you ask a business that has already been asked, just thank them and tell them they are very popular! We also welcome donations of items you have or buy to donate to the auction. All items should be turned in to the front office by Monday, April 28th. All donations are tax deductible. 100% of the Silent Auction proceeds stay at Canyon View to directly benefit our students by funding such things as the artist-in-residence program, shade and playground equipment, field trips, and fun clubs. YOU help make all that happen for our children by donating, bidding, and buying. Thanks for your support! Questions? Call Silent Auction Chair Mimi Kross at 529-1358 or email

Canyon View Math Madness 2014
Welcome to Math Madness 2014! Our goal is to have students practice math while raising money for our school. In the 2010, 2011 Mathathons, over $10,000 was raised each year!! This is Canyon View's largest fundraiser. The money raised over the last few years has helped pay for capital improvement projects like the play structure on the big field and the current kindergarten playground. Without the Math Madness (Mathathon), many of our school's projects would not be possible. This year, our goal is to raise enough funds to install a new, and desperately needed, shade structure for the kindergarten playground.

Here is how Math Madness works (packets were sent home on March 7th):
* Practice the sample math problems. The questions on the Mathathon test will be similar. There will be 20 questions. The more practice the better! * Use the pledge form to gather pledges from family and friends. They can pledge an amount for each correct answer on the Mathathon test or pledge a flat amount ($20 recommendation). **Safety is our number one concern. Door-to-door solicitation is prohibited. Instead, ask family, friends, and co-workers to support students' efforts. Extra forms are located in the office. * By Wednesday, March 19: Return pledge forms along with the envelope to your homeroom teacher. Please do not turn in any money you have collected at this time. The totals will be calculated and returned to you after the test. Each student who collects at least 1 pledge will be entered in the drawing for an "Otter Pop Party"! * Wednesday-Friday, March 19-21: Mathathon Test Day!! Every student in the school will take the test in math class. Good luck! * Monday, March 24: The pledge packets (with calculated pledge amounts) and the corrected Mathathon test will be returned and sent home. * March 25-April 7: Collect pledge money from donors. * By Tuesday, April 8: Turn in pledge form and money to the classroom. Money turned in after this date will not be included in the calculation of prizes. Did someone mention PRIZES??? Check out what we have to offer!!! Thank you, in advance, for supporting Canyon View’s Math Madness. All of the funds raised will benefit the students at Canyon View. Keep it fun! No worries! No stress! No grades! Remember, the Mathathon is supposed to be a FUNdraiser! If you have any questions, please contact: Laura Baragar,, 818-8117.

Grand Prizes: The top 3 students who collect the most $$$ in pledges will win the following Target Gift Card prizes... 1st place = $150 2nd place = $100 3rd place = $50

Top 3 classes that collect & turn in the most $$$ in pledges will win the following prizes: 1st place = PIZZA PARTY! 2nd place = Eegee’s party! 3rd place – Popcorn party!

It is recommended that parents of primary students consult with the classroom teacher and/or gifted specialist before requesting testing. Test results for such young students are valid for a short time only and are NOT required for the identification of primary students for differentiated instruction or extended groups in reading and math in first or second grades.
