Davis Projects for Peace | Students | Further Education

Bucknell has been invited to participate in Davis Projects for Peace, a program for all undergraduates enrolled

as of fall 2009 at any of the 90 American colleges and universities in the Davis United World College Scholars Program. Last year, Bucknell's Bicycles Against Poverty project was chosen for funding, and 102 bicycles were distributed in Uganda's Gulu region.

Students are invited to design a grassroots project that they will implement during the summer of 2010. The 100
projects that are deemed the most promising will be chosen and funded with a $10,000 grant given by Kathryn Wasserman Davis, internationalist and philanthropist.

Proposals may be submitted by an individual or a group of undergraduate students, including members of the
Class of 2009. They may be related to a discipline as a way of linking cultures or ideas, a student group, or a group of friends, but should focus on innovative and practical action for fostering peace in the 21st century.

To be considered, a student or group of students must prepare a written statement which describes the project
(who, what, where, how) including expected outcomes and prospects for future impact (not to exceed two pages) as well as a budget (one page). Proposals should include pre-approval of all parties and organizations involved in the project. Proposals that require travel to countries that are on the State Department’s current travel warning list will not be considered. If the proposal relies on funding from an additional source, documentation of such funding must accompany the proposal. The three page proposal should be submitted to International Student and Scholar Services in Vedder 130 by January 23, 2010.
