Hope you enjoy this chapter. :] --------------------------------------Chapter 57 Minkyong’s POV I walked out of the hospital with Heejin who had just gotten her cast on her arm from the previous night. After walking her home, I made my way over towards my home. “ Hello?” I called into the house. Taking my shoes off, I heard the housekeeper’s voice in the kitchen. “ Minkyong? Come on in, we’re eating breakfast.” I walked into the kitchen where my mom and the housekeeper were in. “ Hi.” I sat down in front of my mom. “ Was it uncomfortable in the hospital?” She passed me some food to put on my plate. “ Not so much. It was okay.” I replied receiving food. “ Honey, I’m going out to the company in about five minutes after breakfast because of a early meeting, so just help yourself around the house. Or you could’ve just hung out with Heejin for the rest of the day if you wanted to. I just don’t want you to be lonely. The housekeeper is leaving with me too, I’m dropping her off.” My mom said, finishing up her breakfast. I nodded, showing that I understood. “ I think I’ll just go over to Heejin’s.” I replied. “ Okay then. Make sure you lock the door.” “ Okay.” My mom stood up from the table and went to get her bags. I ate my breakfast as I watched the housekeeper gather her belongings. “ I’ll be going then. You can leave the dishes in the sink honey, the second housekeeper will arrive shortly.” She said, smiling over at me. “ I don’t mind doing the dishes.” I replied, carrying over my plate. “ No no. It’s fine, I’m sure the housekeeper will take care of it.” She protested, taking my plates and placing them in the sink. “ Okay then. Have a nice day off then.” I replied with a smile. “ Thank you, same to you.” She waved quickly and ran out of the door behind my mom. I watched the two leave through the living room window. After seeing them off, I went up to my room to go change. Dialing Heejin’s number, I stopped halfway.
‘ Maybe I should ask Changmin if he wanted to meet me today…we weren’t able to talk last night…’ Looking through my phonebook, I called Changmin instead. “ Hello?” Changmin answered. “ Hey Changmin, it’s Minkyong.” I replied back. “ Oh hey! What’s up?” “ I just wanted to say sorry for leaving earlier yesterday unexpectedly. I had somewhere to go.” I apologized. “ Oh no…it’s fine. It wasn’t your fault.” “ Yea, what was it that you wanted to meet me about?” I asked, looking out the window. Changmin paused for a second. “ Um…that’s…I just wanted to talk, you know. Catch up.” He replied. I smiled. “ I see. You wanna meet again? This time, without any interruptions?” I heard Changmin’s laugh over the line. “ Sure. I’ll come pick you up if you want.” “ That sounds great.” I smiled. After giving directions, I quickly went to get ready. After ten minutes, I heard the doorbell ring. Rushing down the stairs, I unlocked the front door and saw Changmin standing in front of me. He smiled. “ Hey, do you want to come in for a little?” I invited him in. I saw him hesitate as he looked into the living room. “ Is anyone home?” he asked, looking up the stairs. “ No, my mom left just a little while ago.” I replied. I watched him look around. I laughed. “ It’s fine, come on in.” I said, pulling him in by the arm. Leading him over to the kitchen, I sat him down at the table. I walked over to the pantry to get some snacks. “ I like your house. Very nicely decorated.” He complimented. “ Thanks…it took forever to finish. My mom went crazy over the whole decorating thing. Kind of looks like she overdid it, huh?” I placed the cookies I made with my mom the previous day on the table in front of Changmin. “ Thank you.” He took one and began to munch on it. “ Sorry about yesterday. I didn’t know Haein was going to be there.” He added. I smiled. “ It’s fine, it’s not your fault.” As we began to talk, I heard the front door open. I froze in my seat as I heard the sound of the door opening. The scratching of the key in the keyhole made me jump. Looking into the hallway, I tried to see who was coming in. I looked over at Changmin’s shocked face. “ It’s fine, I’ll go see who it is.” I said, standing up. But there was no need, the front door opened and my mom and dad stepped into the house. “ AHH!” I shrieked in shock. Unexpectedly, I backed away and tripped over the chair behind me. I hit the ground with a thump. “ Ow..” “ Honey!” My mom looked curiously at me.
Changmin ran over to me, helping me up off the ground. He steadied me back on the ground. “ You okay?” He asked. I nodded. “ What are you doing?” My dad asked with a soft chuckle. Looked up at Changmin, his expression changed. I looked back at Changmin. He had a confused expression on his face. He bowed towards my parents. I smiled at his hesitant actions. “ Hello. My name is Changmin.” He said formally. “ Hello. I assume this is your friend then?” My dad asked me. I nodded and scratched my head. “ I thought you were going over to Heejin’s.” My mom said, looking over at me. I smiled hesitantly over at my mom. “ I was planning to, but I decided to invite Changmin over instead.” I replied. My mom nodded. “ Why are you back so early? It’s only been like thirty minutes.” I asked, looking over at the clock above our kitchen counter. “ Did you meet Dad along the way?” “ Oh yea, I met him on the way to the company. Your dad said the meeting’s been canceled, so we just decided to just come back now.” She replied. I nodded. “ I see.” There was an awkward silence. “ Wait.” My dad said abruptly. I looked up at my dad’s curious face. “ Isn’t this…that one…singer dude?” he asked, pointing over at Changmin. “ Huh?” I looked over at Changmin’s blank face. “ That one group that’s always on the TV…” my dad added. “ Oh…um…” Changmin hesitated. Changmin’s cell phone vibrated in his pocket. “ Excuse me, sorry.” He bowed to my parents and excused himself from the room. I watched him leave. “ Could we go have some lunch or something?” I asked, hopefully. “ Go on…but tonight, come back for dinner.” My mom replied. I nodded, gratefully. Embarrassed, I ran out of the house after Changmin. Running down the walkway, I rushed down the driveway in my heels. I looked around frantically for Changmin, but accidentally tripped over a sharp edge rock. “ AHH!” I landed on my knees. “ Ugh, not again.” “ Minkyongah!” I saw Changmin running over towards me. “ You tripped again?” I groaned as he helped me up again. “ Are you okay?” he asked, watching me straighten up. ” Yea.” I looked up at him and laughed. “ Sorry about that, I was just surprised to see my parents. I also told them I was meeting Heejin…so it kind of looks like I was lying to them…” I explained. “ No, it’s fine.” He replied with a smile. “ How about lunch?” He suggested.
I smiled. “ Sure. Sounds great.” Changmin’s POV “ Good afternoon.” The hostess gave us a bright smile and led Minkyong and me over to our seats. Sitting next to a window, we had the perfect view of the new built shopping mall next to us. “ Wow, I’ve never been here. It’s really nice.” Minkyong looked around the big room in awe. I smiled “ So you like it?” She nodded. “ Let’s order.” I replied. After receiving the food we ordered, we happily and hungrily ate our food. As I ate, I racked my brain. I had no clue how I was going to start a conversation up with her. ‘ What am I supposed to say? I can’t just…ask her…’ After another several minutes of eating, my anger started to rise through my body. Frustration ran through my mind as I watched her blankly eat. I held my head for a moment as I thought quickly about how to ask her. All the stress and past pain I had felt quickly rushed back towards me as I sat there silently. I stared blankly at the table in front of me. Flashback: When I met Park Minkyong “ So, are you sure you’re okay? You can’t seem to walk properly. Did you sprain your ankle?” I asked. “ I don’t think so..i’m fine.” She replied. I could tell she was in pain though. Her face was still pale and she wasn’t breathing properly. “ Are you positive? I could take you to the hospital if you want.” I asked. “ Really. I’ll be fine.” She turned around and limped away. She used the wall for support as she limped away. I ran up to her and walked beside her. “ I was serious when I said I’ll take you to the hospital. It’s not that far away.” I insisted. “ I’ll be fine. Honestly.” The girl grimaced while walking. “ Or…” I moved and stood in front of me. “ I could take you home.” “ I’ll be fine. No worries.” She said. “ Honestly.” She added when I opened my mouth to protest. She moved around him and limped away. “ MY NAME IS SHIM CHANGMIN!” I yelled. End of Flashback Flashback: Saving Minkyong I ended up at the crossing. I was about to walk across the street, but the light suddenly turned red. I began to quickly step back onto the sidewalk, but something caught my eye.
Squinting, I saw a girl was kneeling in the middle of the road, apparently trying to pick something up. As I stood there, I stared at her, but not long before I recognized who it was. ‘ That’s…OMFG! THAT’S MINKYONG!’ “ Vroooommmmmm.” The sound of a speeding car boomed through the streets. She didn’t seem to notice, but a car rapidly drove straight towards her. It didn’t slow down, it didn’t honk, but it gradually drove closer to her. My heart stopped. My mind stopped. Time stopped. Everything seemed to…stop. “ MINKYONGAH!” Not caring if the light was still red, not caring that some cars stopped abruptly as I ran across, not caring that people were honking at me and yelling at me, and not caring that I could get hurt, I ran. Never in my life had I ran so fast. I ran for…her life. “ MINKYONAH!” Minkyong looked up and noticed the car driving towards her. She gasped. She seemed to freeze, not knowing what to do. I was so close to her…really close. Then…I was…finally…there. “ AH!” I pushed her out of the way. End of flashback Flashback: Comfortably talking “ Do you want to drink somewhere else? Outside?” I asked pointing to the door. She nodded. When we walked through the shop, a young teenager about 16 years old walked up to us. “ Aren’t you that girl who was seen with Shim Changmin?” She asked pointing over at Minkyong. “ Um..” We glanced at each other. I gave her a slight nod towards the door. She hurried over towards me after giving a small bow of apology towards the girl. I could see the teenagers continuing to point and stare at us through the window. We ran up to the point where we thought no one saw us. She crouched over as she panted. “ Are you okay?” I asked. Once again, she looked slightly pale. She nodded. “ I guess...the news is still going around.” ‘ She’s suffering because of me. I bet she didn’t have people staring and pointing at her before.’ I thought. She stood up. She looked over at me, and gave me another smile. “ Let’s walk.” For the next several minutes, we walked slowly down the sidewalk. She was still breathing heavily. It reminded me of when I first saw her in the alley. Flashback * “ What..were..those people..chasing me…for?” She barley got the last word out. I could see she was sweating and panting. ‘ I guess she’s not exactly athletic.’ I chuckled at my thought as I took off my sunglasses.
End of Flashback * I laughed and smiled at the memory. Minkyong looked over. “ What’s so funny?” I tried to cover up the laughter that was almost about to explode. I just held my breath and shook my head. “ No, really. I want to know to.” I shook my head again. Then I burst out laughing. “ HAHAHA..whoops. Sorry.” I pointed over to the nearby park. We entered the park and sat down on a bench as I continued to laugh. “ HAHAHA.” Minkyong sat down next to me and asked me, “ What?” After I caught my breath, I said, “ You know when you think about a funny past memory, and start laughing really hard, even though it’s not even that funny? Yea..i’m having one of those moments.” I laughed some more. “ Well. What’s the funny memory?” She asked. “ When I first saw you in the alley, you were really pale, sweaty, and you were breathing really heavily because you just ran..” I smiled again and started to laugh once more before finishing my sentence. Minkyong frowned. “ I don’t find it THAT funny.” She replied. “ YAH! Stop laughing!” She gave me a slight shove on my arm. I could see she was starting to laugh. “ See? You’re laughing! So it is funny!” I said laughing some more. She laughed even harder. “ Hahaha. That’s because you’re making me laugh.” The laughing continued. After a long period of laughter, my stomach started hurting from laughing so much, I just had to stop. End Of Flashback Flashback: Confessing “ Minkyongah…I like you.” “ I like you a lot actually. I have for a while and…Minkyongah?” I stopped before continuing. She began to cry. I frowned. “ Do you not like me that much?” I asked. She let out a soft laugh between all the tears. Minkyong shook her head. She lifted her head up and looked straight at me. “ Changminah…” Minkyong choked out. “ Is something wrong?” I asked. She took a breath. “ Changminah…I…I…” “ You don’t like me?” I finished for her.. “ No…it’s not that.” I replied. “ So…does that mean you do like me?” “ I can’t be with you.” She replied softly. I frowned. “ Is there…someone else?” “ There’s no one. It’s just…I can’t…I can’t be with you. Not now…”
“ Changminah?” Minkyong asked. I looked up at her and attempted to smile. “ Yes?” “ Thank you. Thank you so much for everything. You’ve been a wonderful friend, always caring and sweet, I’ve always appreciated your company.” She replied. I nodded. “ Your welcome.” End of Flashback I sat quietly in front of Minkyong, who was happily eating. I had no idea what was going through her head. I didn’t know whether she liked me or not, I didn’t know how she was feeling and what her thoughts were on this. All because I didn’t ask. Flashbacks were rushing through my head rapidly as I sat there. The past memories, happy or sad were all pouring back in, making me remember all that we’ve been through so far. All the hardships, fun times we had were all rushing back into my head. “ Changminah? Why aren’t you eating?” Minkyong asked. She looked over at me. I stared back. I couldn’t say anything. I was left speechless. “ Changminah?” She asked once more. ‘ I need to ask her…this is killing me.’ I looked at Minkyong’s happy face. Was it fake? Was her happiness just a mask to cover her pain and loneliness? Did she ever truly like me? My mind stopped. After a moment, it began to spin. Her personality, smile, laugh, voice, and eyes. The good times we’ve had. The wonderful talks we had. The horrible memories, the painful thoughts. Everything. “ Minkyongah…I Love you.”
