Childrens Museum

Junipers Rock Childrens Museum, located in Houston, Texas, is the home of lively and educational exhibits and attractions for kids of all ages. Because it is a museum primarily geared toward the younger children, making it bright and open is essential. The need for layered lighting, especially task, for interactive displays and zones is accompanied by the natural lighting coming through the two story curtain wall atrium. The spaces include a caf, party room, two interactive learning zones, a tunnel junction, gift shop, exhibits, play areas, and a theatre. Cooper lighting has allowed for creative lighting design to enhance the entertaining atmosphere through their many options such as finishes and height suspension as well as the functional aspects of LED and efficiency. The caf features a lot of this variety. The use of the Shaper 102-P Series, in the bamboo finish, provides general lighting through a natural visual element contributing to the Junipers Rock theme. In addition, the Straight & Narrow linear recessed lights create a slender and flush look that compliments the rugged stone ceiling of the kitchen space while allowing easy cleaning and maintenance for the staff. The L805MED Stasis track heads on the HALO flexible track accent the chalkboard menu and the Shaper 422 series pendants give visual length and interest over the bar in a staggered-height pattern. The smaller 461 pendants are grouped in threes over the banquette seating in combination with the P3LED wall washers to highlight the posters and create wall grazing over the stone wall. The party room features the same L805MED Stasis track heads as general lighting with Shaper 476 pendants for accent and task lighting over the preparation table. The adjacent restrooms each have a Halo H4 LED Adjustable Gimbal coupled with a Shaper 600 Series wall sconce over the sink. Both interactive learning zones, of fairly equal square footage, each have five of the SkyRidge 22SR LED troffers that emit a uniform ambient lighting over the spaces surrounded by partition walls. The open atrium features the P3LED wall washers over the stone wall behind the reception, track lighting over the desk, the Shaper 1300 HP Series Bay Pendant for general lighting, and the adjustable gimbals along with the Shaper 640 Series wall sconce to light and accent the hallway to the staircase. The cave junction, located behind the reception wall has track lighting to highlight the interactive displays. Last on the first floor, the gift shop has the 1300 HP Series Bay Surface for general lighting, track lighting over the merchandise and shelving, Shaper 422 Series pendants over a sitting area in the corner for accent, and an adjustable gimbal highlighting a circular book display in the entrance.

The second floor is where the main hub of exhibits and attractions are held for the children to engage themselves visually and physically. Track lighting is used over the majority of the space to highlight the learning aspects of each exhibit which each track head reflects. The bridge features a line of cluttered Halo LF1DMESML glass pendants in the Spumoni finish to heighten the nature feel. The theatre room is located in the back corner of the second floor space and features the HALO H4 LED Adjustable Gimbal for functionality and the Shaper 640 Series Tapered Square Wall Sconces to enhance the theatre vibe.
