Para el ao 2002, la Agencia Internacional para la Investigacin del Cncer (IARC), estim 71.862 nuevos casos y 32.639 muertes por cncer del cuello uterino en Amrica Latina y el Caribe. En Venezuela, el CaCu representa la segunda causa de muerte por cncer en mujeres en edad reproductiva, con una incidencia de 3.659 casos diagnosticados y 1.612 muertes registradas para el ao 2.005 y aumentando la mortalidad a 2.141 para el ao 2006.

The cervical transformation zone and uncertainty of colposcopic impression. A) The tissue at risk of cervical cancer is the epithelial transformation zone, where the squamous vaginal epithelium undermines and replaces the glandular epithelium of the cervical canal. B) Squamous metaplasia continues as women age; effective screening, diagnosis, and treatment of the transformation zone become difficult. For women of any age, colposcopists cannot easily diagnose or target the biopsy of lesions of different underlying severity.

Valor predictivo negativo

Si test VPH positivo ,NO significa que desarrollar cncer, la mayora de mujeres que estn infectadas no lo desarrollan Si test VPH negativo, es muy difcil que se desarrolle el cncer

El verdadero valor del test est en muestras negativas (Cribado 3 a 5 aos) Slo detectan infecciones muy prevalentes, de las cuales 70% de las infecciones desaparecen en 1 ao, y un 91% en dos aos (sin ningn tipo de tratamiento) Slo las infecciones persistentes tienen riesgo de desarrollar lesiones precancerosas de alto grado y cncer (aprox.10% de mujeres con el virus.) Por tanto, estos test presentan limitaciones que las tecnologa basada en la determinacin de ARNm virales pretende resolver

Un anlisis de la actividad transcripcional de los oncogenes E6 y E7 en las 459 mujeres que presentaron resultados citolgicos e histolgicos concordantes revel la presencia de oncogenes E6/E7 en un 33,8% de las mujeres con citologa normal, un 76,1% de las mujeres CIN1, un 90% de las CIN2 y un 95,3% de las CIN3.

Estandarizar el ensayo de RLP (Reverse Line Blot) para la genotificacin de VPH. Genotipificar el VPH encontrado en muestras cito-histolgicas de mujeres que componen la muestra. Estandarizar el ensayo de RT-qPCR de ARNm de E6/E7 de VPH. Cuantificar el ARNm de E6/E7 de VPH en las muestras de tejido y secreciones vaginales de mujeres que componen la muestra. Relacionar la cuantificacin de ARNm de E6/E7 de VPH con genotipos de VPH encontrados. Relacionar la cuantificacin de ARNm de E6/E7 de VPH con los hallazgos citohistolgicos encontrados.
