First United Methodist Church of Mexico Beach, Florida
Jerry Arhelger, Pastor A Word from Pastor Jerry…. Greetings in the Great and Glorious Love and Joy of Jesus! The Spring Season comes with mixed emotions as we see some of our Church family from the north preparing to go home. We love you all, we will miss you and we look forward to your soon return. Don’t forget to leave us contact information so that we can keep you informed as too our church family activities during the year. Always remember that whether you are here or away, you are a part of us! This is the Season of Resurrection. This is the time that we are reminded and we celebrate the sacrifice and gift of our Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus Christ. Our loving Heavenly Father sent his only begotten (born of the sinless seed of God) son to become sin for our lost world. Praise the Lord! I pray that this is a year of resurrection and revival in our hearts. The words resurrection and revival share a common definition. Resurrection is defined as; 1. The act of rising from the dead or returning to life. 2. The state of one who has returned to life. 3. The act of bringing back to practice, notice, or use; revival. Revival comes from the two words re; again and vivare; to live. The literal translation of Revival is; to live again. In my ministry of more than 40 years I have conducts thousands of revivals around the world and I have personally witnessed churches and people coming alive in Jesus in true revival for the glory, honor and praise of the Lord. I’ve seen the same in many ways in our church fellowship and services. Many of us in personal revival and resurrection have replaced sorrow with joy, despair with hope, death with life, etc., during a spiritual moment of awakening. The Word is truly Working Mightily in us. Like Philippians 3:14 says, Let’s press forward toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Don’t give up! Remain focused on the finish line! Let it be said of us all that we finished well. Always doing those things that please Our Heavenly Father and that honors Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let’s surrender to the Cross so that we might experience the Resurrection and Revival in our lives. The preaching of the Cross is to us who are saved the power of God. Exciting Life Ahead! Stay the Course! Every day I hear the great reports of the Body of Christ at work in the community. Praise the Lord for your faithfulness to serve the Lord Jesus and to lift up His name. Special thanks and love to Gayle and others for the Wave. Love and great blessings to you all always in Jesus, Jerry

Intercessory Prayer Ministry
By Cathi Rigdon

The Lord is at work in the prayer ministry of First Methodist Church of Mexico Beach! While we have both the FaceBook and Telephone Prayer Chains working to pray about the immediate needs that arise, God has laid upon the hearts of our leaders the need to form an Intercessory Prayer Team to pray for the more specific needs of and events happening within our church. The Bible tells us to pray; therefore, it is the responsibility of every Christian to pray. But then, there are those who are called to be intercessors – PLEASE PRAY about the Intercessory Prayer Team. It will begin with myself and three other people chosen by the Lord. This position will require your time, commitment and all else that comes with being an intercessor. If, after praying and careful consideration, you feel you may be one of the called, please contact me so we can talk and pray. In HIs Service and For His Glory Always

The ERT is working on getting the needed supplies to properly stock the ERT trailer for readiness. If you would like to donate items or funds toward the ERT supplies please contact Carol Bonanno or Lori Butler.

By Pam Martin

In addition to her duties as Victim Advocate for the Salvation Army, and board member for the Gulf County Domestic Violence Task Force, Pam Martin teaches, through her faith based prison ministry, a victim’s awareness class at Gulf Correctional Institute (GCI) and Calhoun Correctional Institute (CCI). The attendees will receive a certificate of completion . The class covers crimes of all varieties to include domestic violence, violent crime, sexual assault, murder, child abuse, sexual abuse, drunk driving, and drugs and society. Discussions address the impact of these crimes on the victims; the perpetrators do not consider the overall impact on the victim and their family and friends. Pam forces them to think about the victim’s view of the crimes committed against them. Those participating enjoy the class and it gives them a voice. Pam just completed a 6 month class at Gulf Correctional Institute with certificates being passed out on March 25. Another class will be starting right away God surely blessed Pam with a unique talent and she in turn blesses those whose lives she touches. Let’s continue to pray and support Pam’s efforts for the Lord Jesus. Contact Pam at (850) 769-7989.

Sunday School is Awesome!!!
With Judy Schloerb and Dawn Hennington

During the last several months the 4th and 5th graders have been learning the Apostles’ Creed. All students have learned the 23 Psalm, which we recite each Pancake Sunday for review. I felt that learning the Apostles’ creed, written about AD 325, would give the students a compact view of the “Good News” of the Bible. I did not grow up with the Apostles’ Creed, but now I appreciate it’s depth and simplicity. The word “creed” comes from the Latin word credo, meaning “I Believe.” It was called “Apostles” not because the apostles themselves wrote it, but because the Creed was believed to be an accurate summary of what the apostles taught. As the early Christian church spread throughout the Roman world in the first century, and as the first leaders died out, there was a practical need for local churches to have a basic statement of beliefs. As false teachers began to bring in strange ideas, Christians needed to know “Just what is it that we believe?” The Creed was useful I several ways: The Creed was a public statement of faith, a standardized way in which new Christians could confess their faith in Jesus Christ. The Creed anchored Christian faith to a tradition, to make it difficult for people or churches to be led astray by strange doctrines. The Creed was memorized through frequent repetition, which helped the many believers who could not read. Numerous scriptures could be mentioned as support for the various points of the Creed, and it is in full agreement with the apostles writing and teachings.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy (Christian) Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Creed begins with a simple statement of faith in God, who has all power and is the originator of everything. Most of the Creed is about Jesus Christ, for He is the definitive doctrine of the faith. Beliefs about Jesus separate Christians from everyone else. As we continue through the Holy Lenten season and prepare our hearts to celebrate His Resurrection, I suggest incorporating the Apostles’ Creed into your daily life. Recite it at dinner time or before retiring for the evening, it will refresh our hearts and minds of the “Good News”, Jesus is Alive. Blessings, Dawn

Our View From The North
By Gayle Gavorcik

Once again the snowbirds are starting to depart for their home in the north. There is a sadness to be leaving our church family here at First United Methodist Church of Mexico Beach. At the same time we take with us spiritual growth we have as a result of hearing The Word and being a part of this church family . As we say goodbye for a few months our prayers go with each family. Being a part of this family is the greatest part of being at the beach during those cold winter months we have escaped. Our promise is that one day we will be together for eternity. No more goodbyes, no sorrow, no tears, no pain, no illness. We will not be part time visitors in heaven. Instead we will be permanent residents. Until that day we will follow our Jesus and celebrate His love and grace together. Praying for safe trips home and a blessed summer for everyone. Thank you Church Family for taking us in and allowing us to be a part of such an amazing family. God Bless Romans 12:4-5 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

By Brenda Rakestraw

We will be joining together with our sister church in Port St. Joe to host The Jubilee Choir (from First Baptist Church of Villa Rica, Georgia) on Sunday evening, April 26th at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern Time). The "senior adult" choir sings in churches and assisted living facilities and have sung with Larry Gatlin at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The Choir will be presenting the musical “Songs of Victory”-----an exciting collection of Southern Gospel favorites. We will enjoy this musical "under the sails" at First vUnited Methodist Church in Port St. Joe. You won't want to miss this exciting evening of music! Please call either Brenda Rakestraw (867-4322) or Carol Dow (227-6831) for more information or to let us know if you will be able to assist with the meal for the choir.

1 Corinthians 12 4-6 niv 4

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
