Use the tail thread to repeat Step 3 on the other end of the
tube. Weave in thread end, tying half-hitch knots between
several beads to secure, and trim.

Tassels: To form the tassel that hangs from Rows 29–34
of the tube, string 13D. Wrap the D around the tube
and pass through all of the D again to form a ring
around the tube. Tie a surgeon’s knot.
String 1D, 1 glass rondelle, 1 glass disc, 1 glass
square, 1 glass disc, 1 glass rondelle, 1D, 1 flying
bird, 1D, and 16B. Skip 3B (to form a picot) and
pass back through all of the beads in this step.
String 14D and wrap the beads around the tube
on the right side of the ring formed in Step 6.
Pass through all of the beads in the tassel
from the first D to the last D. String 16A.
Skip 3A and pass back through all of the
beads.

9

Repeat Step 8, wrapping the
14D on the other side of the
ring formed in Step 6 and
using C beads for the picot
fringe.

10

Pass through the
13 beads in the
ring formed in
Step 6 and all of the beads
in the tassel. String 16B.
Skip 3B and pass back
through all beads to the
tail thread. Use the working and tail threads to tie a
surgeon’s knot. Use a thread

In core-formed glass
vessels from pre-Roman

speculate that cores were
formed from animal
dung.
