Executive Summary
This document is a software product information guide for LumenSoft Technologies Product Candela. Candela is a brand name for the product which is an excellent and unmatched solution for Retail Operations Management. A brief description of the product introduces the reader to the product and major functionality and features are briefly explained.

Candela (Retail Management System) is a complete barcode enabled solution for managing the operations of small to mid sized retail business. Candela offers retailers a feature-set designed for dynamic and growing companies. Software can be enhanced and its versions can be upgraded with business growth. Candela facilitates easier barcode enabled POS functions, vendor management, customer management, inventory tracking and optimization, accounting, and business analysis. Candela is developed by a team of professionals having 45 man years of experience in retailing domain. Research has been conducted regarding the issues and problems of retail operations and solutions are designed which represent industry best practices. Candela has evolved during last NINE years of operation at leading retail stores (including many Retail Chain Stores of Top brands) The concept behind Candela is that the retailers can have immediate access to the right information. They can stay current with the changing information of any of the outlets (stores). Up to date information of inventory and sales is available at the desktop of the decision makers. LumenSoft Candela is available as two modules: Store Module and Back-Office. Candela RMS Store Module provides a complete retail solution that can be run as a stand-alone application in individual stores, as well as connected to the head office using Candela BackOffice. Candela RMS Back-Office Module equips retail chains or multi-store businesses to roll up and manage data for all stores from the head office. In Candela, different departments can be configured in one of the two ways. First configuration is called Standard configuration and is designed to manage the retail operations of grocery, cosmetics, pharmacy and other similar product lines. Second configuration is called Assortment configuration and is designed for retail management of garments, footwear and similar product lines. This configuration has extensive support for assortments and management of product sizes and colors. All entries and reports are available in easy to use matrix of products and sizes.

Candela Introduction

All standard POS hardware can be connected to Candela for managing the retail operations. Any standard Barcode scanner can be connected to Candela for scanning of barcodes. Data Collectors can also be connected to the system. Customer receipts can be printed by connecting retail receipt printers, thermal printers, laser printers, or ordinary dot matrix printers. Barcodes can be printed using special barcode printers or ordinary laser printers. Customer display or Pole display can also be connected to the system to show invoice details to the customers during product scanning. Cash drawer can be connected to the system which opens up automatically when a new invoice is generated by the system. Use of Candela guarantees significant improvement in sales to stock ratio. This means, a retail business can achieve existing sales levels with much less stocks thereby increasing profitability.

Candela is a powerful tool for management of inventory of retail chain stores. Its intelligent inventory distribution and optimization algorithms maintain the required inventory at stores. Stock transfers between stores is automated and centrally managed through head office. For retail chains, the data transfer from shops to the back office server (head office) is very simple and occurs with a click of a button. The data can be transferred using the internet. Shops can use slow speed dial up internet connection or can use DSL internet connections. Due to simplified and efficient data transfer options the management of retail chain operations becomes very easy.

Flexible Product Definition


System provides options to define products and their attributes based on user preferences. A large number of user defined attributes can be assigned to products. Attributes can be hierarchical and linear. These product attributes are used to get reports for sales, order point, audit, and stocks.

Complete Bar Code Enabled Software


The system uses a bar code reader to enter sales and transfer of different products. However manual entry is also possible. This ensures the integrity of data and reduces the chances of manual errors.

Invoice Generation and Point of Sales


Candela has an integrated point of sales terminal which facilitates all the operations to be performed by sales staff at retail outlets. Point of sales is very easy to use and can be operated by salesmen who may not be very educated.

Candela generates invoices for sales to customers. Shop staff can be restricted to change and view only limited number of previous sales invoices The system handles the customer sales and returns at the retail outlets Multiple point of sales terminals can be used at any retail outlet During clearance sales, the discounts are calculated by the system and invoice is generated accordingly

Touch Screen Facility for POS


Candela POS provides touch screen facility. This facility can be switched ON or OFF for each POS.

Non-Payment POS Terminals


Candela provides mechanism to make bills or delivery-chalan using Non Payment Tills. These Bills when scanned at payment counters are automatically converted to Invoices. Non-payment Tills can be used to generate quotations

Daily Accounts Closing and Cash Reconciliation


Candela allows to install more than one POS terminal at shops. Cash reconciliation is done daily at close of business transactions. Candela helps to reconcile cash for the entire shop and also for each of the terminals.

Extensive Discount Management Support


Candela provides a powerful discount management module to manage discounts. These discounts are automatically applied while making invoices.

Inventory Management and Re-Order Levels


In any retail business the key to success is to maintain a sales-to-stock ratio as high as possible. This means that we should be able to generate maximum sales with minimum stock. Inventory management enables the business to obtain a high service level with minimum stock-out (missed sales) cost.

Stock Transfer and Optimization Algorithms


The system can handle the transfer of inventory from one branch to another. In such cases the inventory of the source is adjusted on dispatch, while the inventory of the destination is adjusted on receipt of the goods. The system keeps track of the inventory and stocks which are in-transit i.e. which are dispatched from one location but are not received by the other location.

Centralized Messaging System

User Access Security Management


The system is secure and only authorized users can operate the system. There is a user access management system which allows access to the users to only those areas for which permission is granted to them. For example, a salesman may not be given the rights to inventory management section. Also, all the actions being performed by a user are logged and record is kept for any future use.

The administrator of the system can define system users. Only these users can use the software The administrator can make different user groups and assign different privileges to those groups. All users who are made part of a group will have the privileges associated with that user group The system has a logging mechanism.
