Shape The font adopts an oval aspect of curves with parallel upright stems. Reference to a round pen writing is evident. The ascenter terminal of the characters evidence a handwriting-derived tapered serif. Weight Although the modelling variety is quite varied. that forms a gradual transition to the shape. in which case is the serif of a Basckerville character is sharp and refined. Modelling The weight of the characters range from fine to medium in thickness. Proportions This font has a medium width measurements with the capitals in a relatively balanced proportion that follows the Roman square capital propertions.

Designed by John Baskerville in the 18th century. as can be seen in the ‘W’. The uppercase ‘A’ of Baskerville has a flat top where Cochin’s has a concave Apex. Cochin has a closed tail and different spur. The counters of Baskerville are smaller than those of Cochin. Cochin’s ‘Q’ has a different modelling with a more instant transition and has a broken construction. Baskerville is mainly used for body text and display type.I have chosen to look at the characteristics of Baskerville and compare it against Cochin. Transitional typefaces have a medium contrast between there thick and thin strokes. A key feature of a transitional typeface is a flat or triangular tip where the diagonal strokes meet. Baskerville has vertical spurs on its uppercase ‘G’ and Cochin’s does not. The lowercase ‘g’ of Baskerville has a distinctive double-storey with an open tail. Cochin has sharp and refined serifs where Baskerville has slab serifs. Big Differences: Baskerville has a more instant transition than Cochin throughout it’s alphabet. Q Q Subtle Differences (a few examples): Baskerville has a distinctive capital ‘Q’ with a long tail and a continuous construction. It is a Roman typeface and a sub-classification which more precisely defines Baskerville is a transitional typeface.

All the curves are continuous there’s nothing irregular with them. The ascenders and descenders are however regular. the stems etc are all equal in weight. its propotions are exaggerated in comparison to other fonts. The letterforms have no variation in the axis of contrast. Proportions When compared to other typefaces Century Gothic is expanded. Shape There are no variants to traditional forms in the sense that there’s no curving of normally straight lines and no rounded corners. It has a continuous construction. Modelling There is no contrast in the letterforms. All upright stems are parallel to one another.

which showes the beautiful full curves of the bowls. all these are characteristics of this typeface which show its differences with similar typefaces such as Corbel. entury gothic . meduim weight used. There is no modelling used and an even. Century Gothic folllows the Roman square capital proportion in a medium width but the lower case show a large x-height.C This gothic typeface is assembled by continous construstionwith a very simple circular shape. also the capital ‘Q’ has a tail that is dissecitng the bowl. Both ‘g’ and ‘e’ are a single story letter and there are no decending terminals used on letter ‘t’.

the tail of the ‘Q’ disects the bowl and the ‘R’ has a curved leg combined with a tail. ‘x’. The bowl is much smoother and appears to be more spherical. contrasting with the almost fractured bowl of ‘Arno Pro’. ‘T’ are pxd The relationship between the ‘p’. Distinctive letterforms such as lower case ‘f’ and uppercase ‘J’ sit on the baseline. consisting of a vertical axis. The curve of the terminal has a softened teardrop lobe whereas ‘Arno Pro’ has a blunt termination. a Century Schoolbook Regular Lower case ‘a’ is one of the most distinctive letterforms in comparison to ‘Arno Pro’. GQR Uppercase ‘G’. all demonstrating continuous construction and oval curves. ‘Q’ and ‘R’ stand out considerabely. sharp and refined. The letter ‘G’ has a vertical spur. The weight is medium in colour. The modelling is high contrast. the contrast has a gradual transition. .

d Chaparral Pro is an abstract typeface with character. The font is available in italic. z Unlike the typeface Didot. Chaparral Pro has no transition. and almost like Didot. It does however. has an oblique splayed serif. have a medium contrast. Chaparral Pro// abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz . bold and bold italic whereas Didot is unavailable in all of these. Its construction is continuous and the shape is slightly square with relative internal proportions.

The upper case R has a curved leg and tail giving it that extra elagence and style. Although Impressum has unique touches such as fully rounded terminals on lower case letters a.
