Prayerful Dependence As the time drew near for Jesus to realize His fate on Calvary, we would like to imagine that our wise and courageous leader stood tall, and faced the cross without any signs of fear or weakness. However, the Bible does not allow us such delusions. Luke 22:39-46 portrays the condition of our savior in the moments leading up to His arrest. Verse 44 says, Being in anguish, He prayed more fervently and His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. I have never experienced such a high degree of anguish. But I have known the pressures of life, and I am sure that you have too. What do we do when life gets hard? What do we do when God sets something before us that seems impossible? The world offers many solutions, some of which are good, some of which are destructive, but where did Jesus turn in His time of anguish? He said, Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from Me nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done (v.42). Jesus turned to the Father in prayerful dependence in His time of anguish. As His followers we should heed His example. When we have an important decision to make, when we face a problem for which we dont have answers, when we face a challenge that seems impossible, we must turn to the Lord in prayerful dependence. This is not something that we should do alone either. Jesus had His closest friends nearby whom He had asked to pray as well. Prayerful dependence is something believers do together. Let us commit to pray. Lets pray to God like we depend on Him. Lets pray for one another and with one another as if nothing good happens unless God gets involved. You may wonder if this is such a good plan, considering that Christ died on the cross less than 24 hours after His time of prayerful dependence. It may seem that praying didnt work out so good for Him. But may I remind you that though it was Gods will for Jesus to suffer; on the third day He rose and the world has never been the same! Prayerful dependence is a prerequisite for Christs followers to experience the wonders of God. You can help us develop a culture of prayerful dependence at Salem. Start by praying to the Lord daily in your personal life. Offer sincere prayers in our worship and Bible study times together. Join us on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 in room 207 as we pray for one another and pray for our church. Lets also pray with one another whenever the Spirit moves us to pray together. Jes us was prayerfully dependent, and we should be as well. The Kings servant Pastor Chuck Missions Carmen Hook and Carl Barrow We are now in the midst of our AAEO for North American Missions program. Our goal is $800.00 and we now have $245.00. On April 8th we will make a trip to Washington University to host a luncheon for International Students who attend school there. We are still shy of several cakes which are made in 9X13 inch disposable pans. These cakes can be delivered to the church Monday, April 7th between 10am & 2pm or on Tuesday, April 8th between 9:00 am & 10:00 am. Please keep your Samaritans Purse gifts coming!! Youth Cody Hudspeth Spring time is finally here, that is what they say on the news anyway. As we prepare for warmer weather we are refocusing our efforts at Salem Baptist Church. We are seeking a new culture, a culture of prayerful dependence and loving relationships. Within the student ministry we will be striving to live a life that reflects this new culture. With prayer, love, and genuine relationships, my goal is to instil a passion for Jesus Christ and a passion to live a life according to His word. To learn His word we must first know His word. At the end of March we traveled to the creation museum where I am encouraged that our students received the opportunity to learn about the creation of the world from a Biblical mindset. Even if one does not agree with a Young Earth Creation view, this is still a great opportunity to widen ones own horizon. Summer camp is quickly creeping upon us and there are still students who are in need of financial assistance. If you need help with a project around your house or know of someone, then hire the student ministry to help. This not only helps pay for student ministry events but also gives them an opportunity to give back and serve our church family and community.

Sunday School Dr. Olusola Orebiyi He is Lord, He is Lord, Amen. He is risen from the dead, He is Lord; every knee shall bow, every tongue confess, that JESUS CHRIST is Lord. As we reflect on the events of the Easter Season, we need to meditate on the Ministry of JESUS CHRIST, including His death, burial and resurrection from the dead, and remember that every detail contained in this account is a fulfillment of prophecies in the Old Testament. By doing so, well be able to grow in our faith and realize that we are serving our Loving Heavenly Father, who is faithful in all things and is a Promise Keeper. Come join us in regular Sunday Bible Study Fellowship at 9:30 AM and learn more about the promises of GOD through JESUS CHRIST for your life and be assured of His faithfulness always. JESUS instructed us in Matthew 11:28-30 to Come unto Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. As we learn from Him well also have His peace which passes all human understanding and His everlasting strength as we continue on the journey of life. Please remember to invite others to join us in Sunday Bible Study Fellowship at 9:30 AM.
