Description: This is a flier for an old timey boxing match made in Photoshop. Date: Febuary

14,

2014

Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04 Cory Kerr Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop Objectives: Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography. Process: I used Photoshop exclusively for this project. I used the brush tool in conjunction with masking on almost every layer. I wanted to do an old time boxing flier so I knew I wanted to make it look like it was printed on old parchment or ad paper. The most dofficult part was wrangling all of the different layers and making them all behave properly. Masking is definitely the most enjoyable thing Ive done in photoshop.

Logos

Process: A bit of history: When an arcade game or machine doesnt have anyone actively playing it goes in to a demo loop showing all of the cool stuff the game has to offer to try and entice people to play it. This demo loop is a called the attract mode. I thought Attract Mode would make a great name for an arcade. I knew that I wanted to get across an old school feeling without making it look out of touch. My favorite of the three is definitely the Attract Mode star. I feel like this one would do the best as a logo for things like employees shirts and business cards. It took a lot of messing wth the size and position of the shapes.

Letterhead
Description: Letterhead for the Attract Mode Arcade company. Date: February 27, 2014

Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04 Cory Kerr Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign Objectives: Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Process: Done in adobe inDesign. Made use of the rectangle tool, a lot. The eyedropper tool came in handy for matching colors of the text with the colors of the design. I liked the idea of the vertical stripe on the side but didnt want it to be solid all the way down. I thought it would be kind of boring to just have a rectangular break so I used the star tool.

Brochure
Description: A two sided (duplex) folding brochure. Date: March 29, 2014

Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04 Cory Kerr Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop Adobe InDesign Objectives: Create an attractive brochure for the cause or company of your choice. Process: I actually really enjoyed this project. I knew I wanted to continue with the theme that Ive been working on for most of the semester and decided to do it for Attract Mode. I started off by searching for pictures that would display the kind of arcade atmosphere I was after. After that I had to find the perfect background. Im also really fond of the fonts I used. They really evoke an old school feel. The toughest part was clipping the arcade cabinet in the bottom left corner.

Flier
Description: Black & White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference. Date: January

25,

2014

Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04 Cory Kerr Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesign Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact. Process: Got my hands dirty with some work in inDesign. Used the frame tool a lot over the course of this project. Learned how to and developed an eye for alignment. Not having ever used a Mac for more than a couple minutes ata time it was kind of hard

to get the hang of all of the new key commands and shortcuts. This project not only taught me some new things about the adobe programs but the Mac OS as a whole. It was a good way to get my start in the design world.

Event Ad
Description: A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner. Date: February

1,

2014

Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04 Cory Kerr Program(s)/Tools: Microsoft Word Epson Scanner

Objectives: Find, scan and import a highquality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word. Process: The image was taken from the February 2014 edition of runners world magazine. I scanned the image in and did all other editing in Microsoft Word. This probably the most difficult project in terms of having to force a program to do something that it just wasnt that good at. Its good to know that I could do design work using Microsoft Word if I absolutely had to but it just cant compete with the Adobe products. I used the rule of thirds to help give the ad a bit more flow from left to right.

Web Page
Description: A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo. Date: March 13, 2014

Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04 Cory Kerr Program(s)/Tools: TextWrangler Adobe Photoshop Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file. Process: This was all done through HTML and CSS. It took quite a lot of doing and was pretty confusing at first. A stray left most of my text a giant link and I could not figure out why for the longest time. I guess like any new language or skill, the longer you use it the more proficient you become. I altered the sample HTML from the bee one provided and made it fit with my design.

Imaging
Description: A personally taken photograph that has been edited/formatted using Photoshop. Date: February 5, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04 Cory Kerr Program(s)/Tools: Casio Point and Shoot Adobe Photoshop

Camera

Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Process: The process used for this project was probably pretty similar to whatever you used. It took me a while to really get a hang of proper focusing. I used an old point and shoot that Ive had for years so it was

probably showing its age. eventually I was able to get a handle on forcing different focuses. The photoshop tutorial video was my saving grace because I could barely remember anything from the actual class. I had to learn quickly not to get too generous with the saturation slider or else things started to look pretty Saturday
