Ellie Torres February 28, 2014 5th Period Research Acrostic Draft (#1) Nelson Mandela  M- Magnificent: impressively beautiful, elaborate

, or extravagant Nelson Mandela is a very magnificent person. As Anya Harris stated,” It is famously and usually attributed to Nelson Mandela, a man who became President of South Africa after 27 years in jails there, before international outcry and campaigning could secure his freedom.” It’s very impressive to see a man who has been in jail for years to become president of South Africa right after his release. It gives people the idea that the reason he went to jail in the first place was because he was fighting for something that was right.  A- Ambitious: having or showing a strong desire and determination to succeed. Nelson Mandela is an ambitious man as well. After all the jail time for fighting in what he believed in, he still fought for it right after he got released. “Nelson Mandela was arrested in 1962 and in 1964 was sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiracy to overthrow the state” (www.ask.com). Nelson Mandela struggled so much just because he was striving for what he believed in. Mandela believed in equality for his own country. He becaome the first president of South Africa

N- Noteworthy: worthy of note Before Nelson Mandela forgave the South Africans for putting him in jail, he wanted to be known for what he has done worldwide. “Nelson Mandela Demanded Justice Before Forgiving White South Africans” (www.thedailybeast.com). Some people

agree with him being brought to justice because what he was trying to do in the first place was very overwhelming. He actually was brought up to justice. There was so much justice that Barack Obama attended Mandela’s funeral.  D- Dedicated: devoted to a task or purpose Nelson Mandela himself stated,” It always seems impossible until it’s done.” That Quote made me realize that he is a very dedicated person. He always went for his goals and never stopped going for it until it was fulfilled. Nelson Mandela went through a lot of struggles while going for his goals, but he kept pushing towards it.  E- Educational: of or relating to the provision of education Another quote Mandela declared was,” Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Others strongly agree with this quote. Although Mandela went to jail, he shook the whole world with just his education. Education is the strongest weapon in my point of view. No matter what you do, nothing is stronger than education and intelligence.  L- Latent: hidden Mandela was hidden before he asked for justice. He was hidden from the public because the South Africans knew he was doing something right. The South Africans just didn’t want to be embarrassed by their corrupted government. He was basically put to jail because of what he knew. As Nelson Mandela declared,” Man’s goodness is a flame that can be hidden, but never extinguished.”  A- Astounding: surprisingly impressive or notable Mandela was a very astounding human being overall. All his quotes like,” When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to

become an outlaw” is very inspiring and can change a person’s point of view on many things. Mandela is one of the few role models that many have. He is a great man.
