union), SEIU only wants the vote of everyone but nursing and law, the school challenges on the grounds that those groups should be included Adjunct reasoning: contract security, transparency about hiring and firing, fair pay not at the market rate nationally We would like to host a series of forums in the next month for students to make themselves aware of these issues. The forum should be structured in a way that allows students to ask questions and educate themselves. Education is the most important next step
Representative Ortiz: We should attempt to come to a speedy decision about what we want to do next. This issue is moving fast and we should try to keep up with it. Representative Moak: I do not think we should publish an opinion on this. We are not going to change anybody‟s mind on this opinion. This is a battle of wants over money between administrators and faculty and I do not want to involve us in a political discussion. President Chalmers: I think forums will help us hold our neutral space. Representative Ortiz: Has the administration alluded to impact on the students? President Chalmers: Dr. Crawford has said that this will have no impact on students, but in similar situations at other institutions this has not been the case. Representative Goetze: I think that at the point this goes to court they are using tuition dollars and this makes it harder for us to remain silent on this issue. President Chalmers seeks a motion to move this to an action item Representative James moves the motion Representative Goetze seconds the motion Motion passes unanimously with absentia from Representative Bayuga Graff President Chalmers seeks a motion to approve one forum with two points of view to discuss the topic of adjunct unionization Representative James moves the motion Representative Ortiz seconds the motion Motion passes unanimously with absentia from Representative Bayuga Graff Executive VP Barnes seeks a motion to add an item of new business to discuss the logistics of the forum Representative Davalos moves the motion Representative Dickerson seconds the motion Motion passes unanimously with absentia from Representative Bayuga Graff REPA 20140401 Forum on Faculty Unionization and SEIU (Eric Chalmers) Action - PAB coordinating with other members - Tuesday or a Thursday - How quickly should we have the forum?
