TERMS OF REFERENCE Job Title: Department: Reports to: Start Date: Responsibilities The EPRU Intern will be involved

in a range of projects. The EPRU will engage the intern from June 2 September 2, 2014. Specific projects will cover a wide range of areas including but not limited to the following: Emergency Roster Assist in coordination of Internal Emergency Roster Project. Assist in implementation of training, conference, and orientation programs for EPRU/Roster staff. Intern Emergency Preparedness and Response Unit Emergency Preparedness Coordinator June 2, 2014

Technology to Support Emergency Preparedness and Response Develop and Update EPRU RescueNet (intranet) content as needed. Testing and documentation of new EPRU software Other: Assist in media monitoring of emergencies and conducting of regional/country research. Assist in shepherding grants documents through NY review process Conduct report and proposal reviews for grants/Rachel Participate/co-facilitate Disaster Ready Plus pilot activities Other duties as assigned.

Learning Outcomes At the end of the designated period, the intern will be able to: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Understand methods of media monitoring of emergencies Write regional/country research reports regarding current and prospective emergencies Discuss rules related to different donors and understand emergency grants management at the IRC Define the roles that all IRC departments play in grants management Understand new technologies and software related to emergency field work Define learning objectives for EPRU staff and how to incorporate them into learning events and technologies

Understand issues around emergency staffing and organizational capacity in emergencies Key Relationships The Intern will work closely with the EPRU senior leadership, and report directly to the EPRU Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. They will also work collaboratively with the EPRU Emergency Support Manager on other projects. The Intern will also work closely with IRCs country program managers and regional teams as necessary. Depending on the assignment, she/he may also work closely with other IRC departments including IT, Finance, Procurement and Human Resources. Qualifications Currently enrolled student in internationally-focused academic program. Strong organizational skills. HTML experience, intermediate coding experience preferred Demonstrated ability to work closely with range of stakeholders. Creative thinker, effective communicator and active problem solver. Ability to work independently BASIC FRENCH LANGUAGE SKILLS STRONGLY PREFERRED (written and spoken)
