” Once you receive your package fresh from shipping, you are literally within an hour of lighting your first fire. The warmth fills the room in a matter of minutes and you are enjoying dancing flames for the rest of the evening. For weeks, you’ll enjoy decorating your fireplace and moving it around to check it out in various rooms around the house. It never loses its novelty because it’s a fireplace. We all love fireplaces! But, there are different ways to enhance your fireplace experience. People always get creative and this report will give you some ideas. Maybe you’ll want to try them yourself and maybe these ideas will give you other ideas. Either way, you can have more fun with fireplaces than just sipping wine by the fire. Stained Glass Window Stained glass and beveled glass are great for creating shadows and lighting effects that dance around your room. You can of course find a stained or beveled glass screen that you like and place it in front of your fireplace. There are all kinds of designs you can enjoy from a botanical motif to a more architectural Victorian pattern. Flowers and butterflies seem to be the more common stained glass screen design you’ll see when you go shopping for your screen. The little known fact about having a stained or beveled glass screen is that you don’t necessarily have to spend a great deal of money to enjoy that look in front of your fireplace. You can easily create one of your own.
Crystal paints and AquaGlass can be applied to a fairly inexpensive run of the mill glass fireplace screen to produce your own design. If you have any artistic ability or just like to have fun with art, there is an easy to use Liquid Lead that has absolutely no lead in it. It simply creates a border for your design where you can apply different colors and have fun staining your own glass. There are interesting pattern books that you can get that will help you create your own designs and make them look rather good regardless of your artistic skill level. Also, you can get a Sprayaway Cleaner if you happen to make a mistake. Start over and do it again. Then when you have it finished and it looks the way you want it to look, apply a glass paint sealer and let it sit for about a day until it is completely cured. Then, you are ready to put it on display. * Note – Do not use Lacquer paint since it is flammable and it’s always best to just be safe. For the beveled look, you can do that yourself as well. Simply order beveled blanks in the shape and size you want. Then, stain them yourself and build your screen. Do It Yourself is actually fun when you get into it. If there is anything you want, of course you can buy it. If you get on the internet, you can simply do a search and find just about anything you want. But if you have an idea in your mind, it’s not hard for you to put that idea together for yourself. Because you may be able to buy everything you want online, but you can also find any information for Do It Yourself projects as well. Another idea that has really started to gain a great deal of interest these days is the different colors of fires dancing in the fireplaces. We asked our design team to figure out a way to make that happen in a Ventless Gel Fireplace and they come up with some great ideas.
Dancing Colorful Flames It might have been discovered by accident or just the creative explorations of a few very intuitive individuals, but colorful flames can be added to your fireplace experience at your design. All you have to do is learn how to be safe with what you are doing and use common sense so that you know how this information applies to your own particular situation. This is rather safe and you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. But, you do have to use your own discretion when working with any kind of fire. * Disclaimer: Any time you are working with fire, it is up to you to know that what you are doing is safe. If you are unsure at any time, it is advisable not to do anything that would put you or anyone else in danger. Having said that, you can have several beautiful colors dancing around in your fireplace. You can have blue flames that make you feel like you are being warmed by a fire in the middle of a night snowfall. You can have white flames that work really well behind a stained glass screen. Green flames are perfect for a Christmas night when you and your family just want to sit near the fireplace and talk for hours. But, you can also have several colors dancing around at once. With the fact that you can put up to three cans of Sunjel in the fireplace, you can enjoy three different colors if you would like. Simply treat each can to a different solution and sit back and enjoy. I know that I have given you the honorary disclaimer and satisfied my legal responsibilities to make you aware of fire safety, but the following solutions and treatments are safe. None of the chemicals used are explosive. The fire will burn safely in a steel can that should be safely seated in your firebox. So, let’s learn how to do it and have fun!
If you want a blue flame, bleaching powder will create that color. Not liquid bleach, that hasn’t been tested at all by my design team. But, your common household bleach powder will do the trick. • • • • Epson salts will give you white flames. Table salt will give you yellow flames. Borax Powder will create a yellowish-green flame. Bluestone, otherwise known as Copper Sulphate, will make green flames.
The best practice for use with Sunjel in a Ventless Gel Fireplace is to treat saw dust with the chemical dissolved in water. The saw dust is the base that you stir into the water and chemical solution. There is no particular ratio you need to know. Simply dissolve the chemical you choose into water and stir in your saw dust. Once the saw dust completely absorbs the solution, lay the saw dust out onto a sheet of cardboard or old towels and allow to completely dry. In other words, if you want a blue flame then you would need to obtain some bleach powder and mix it in water until it dissolves. Once the saw dust is stirred into that solution, it will absorb the solution if you put enough saw dust in it. Either way, your saw dust will take in as much solution as possible and you’ll be able to lay the base out to let it dry. When you are ready to enjoy a blue fire, light the can of Sunjel or several cans of Sunjel in the firebox with a Grill Lighter or some other safe lighting device. Then, using a large spoon or some other long scooping device drop a little bit of your base into the can of Sunjel. As the base burns, apply more as needed.
