ALEXANDER KNOX
SHAPING: Chicago Fashion CURRENTLY: Winner, Future of Chicago Fashion 2014

Fashion designers take their inspiration from many places. For Alexanders winning design, it was an abstract painting hed seen in the Chicago Art Institute by Kurt Seligmann, Metamorphosis. Alexander, a senior and fashion design major at Columbia College, created a metamorphosis of his own. The sheer, shimmering cocoon coat reveals a black, crinkled taffeta dress underneath. The forward-thinking fashion designers work incorporates sophisticated textiles and the distortion of the silhouette to create an eerily polished look.

A BIG DEAL: The second largest art museum in the United States CURRENTLY: Launching Art Everywhere US

Stay Current

How does a museum founded in 1879 stay current? First, you build the Modern Wing, the museums largest expansion ever, dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Then you take your art to the streets. This summer, the Art Institute joins four other major American art museums to produce Art Everywhere US. For the month of August, iconic works of American art from the museums collections will be exhibited on billboards, bus shelters, subway posters and more across the country, replacing advertising and bringing art to everyone.
