A Note On Staging: - Special Effects: Sounds of waves slapping against the cliffs banks and a swirl of shivering vapor (this could be easily accomplished through audio (sound) effects and dry ice coming from the back stage. - Set Design: A summary of the scenery that you may wish to include in your play: Scene- On the breezy cliff: A decrepit iron gate (which can be opened and closed but slowly); a garden overgrown with weeds, a pine wood at the far right corner, a terrace of wild flowers and a meadow of mushrooms; a cobblestone cottage; a black Ford Model T, a water tank and a chimney. Inside the cottage: a parlor, 2 chairs, 1 rectangular table, a satin bed, a big bread loaf, bucket of milk, bottle of rum, a fireplace and a heavy metal door (this door can be opened and closed freely), a golden mirror and a portrait of a sailor in colonial clothes. - Props For Each Character: The Monster: A tattered shirt and a cape ripped and torn grotesquely stained with blood. Felix: Wears buckskin clothing with a Flint-Lock in one hand and the other hand carrying a rucksack. Agathe: Where sunglasses over her eyes and a white old gown with a nightcap on her head carrying a woven basket. Hambert (Butler): Wears a maroon suit with a blue cape embroidered with a symbol of a rose; his suit has velvet laces, scuffs and dangling collars.

In the woods, the Monster staggered along a dirt path with the boisterous breeze behind him. Every step he took, blood dribbled loosely from the bullet holes in his stomach causing the dirt path to be coated with the monsters blood. He eventually came to an opening and saw a cobblestone cottage set on the other side of the hill. Clutching his wound in one hand, he made his way up towards the cottage overlooking the cliff dragging his feet in agony along the jagged route. The tide was very forceful and the current sent waves slapping against the cliffs banks. The breeze sent all the fishing vessels sailing out from the bay towards the hazy horizon miles away from shore. The monster could feel the frosty vapor resting on the stitches in his painful face. He opened the rotted iron gate into the back garden of the cottage. The monster suddenly saw a blind woman walking amongst the wildflowers, with a sense of courage, the Monster crept towards her. Monster I am hurt I have come a long way. I have been alone in the world long enough to learn your language and act the way you guys do but people shoot me, I want to love, I want a friend. Look at my waist, it is suffused with bullet holes and my thigh is soaked with blood. I am hurt. I am going to die. Please help me. Help me The Monsters words made Agathe jump into consternation. With her kind heart, Agathe tries to touch the Monster and feel his face. The Monster, who just noticed that the lady was blind, ducked his head fearing that Agathe would touch his stitched face. Agathe whose hand came in contact with the Monsters bloody belly took her hand off from the Monster with fright and sensed the smell of burnt metal. She followed the smell and touched a bullet that has been imbedded in the Monsters chest. Agathe Good heavens man, what have you been up to? I am born sightless but even if I dont see your troublesome face, I can sense that you have been through rough times. Please man, tell me what and who you are. Monster I came to love and live a happy life but all the townspeople hunt me down and chase me out of their towns. I only followed a dirt part from the town of Seamens Bay to find that there is a cottage sitting on top of a hill. I came here to love but I cannot stand all the bullets being penetrated into me. I am clueless on where I was born, who I am and who created me; but I know one thing, which is that I am a human being and I need to be treated like others. Agathe Come on inside, I would make you a warm cup of cocoa and a nice warm mushroom soup. I would make you lie down in the parlor and you could start fresh on your journey the next day. When a minute of silence has passed after Agathe spoke, The Monster stood there motionless waiting to see if the woman meant danger or warmth to him.

Agathe Come on! The butler would see to your wounds. You want a friend; I will be your friend come on inside. Agathe gave the Monster her walking stick and gave him a slight push. With that encouraging act, the Monster limped along the path towards the cobblestone cottage with Agathe hurrying behind him. The Monster pushed open the door and looked around the enchanted sitting room bedecked with high dome roofs, golden arches and a grand staircase carpeted with red silky satin. Monster I am hurt but I cannot be more amused by your lovely house. Wishing that Agathe heard his astonishing words, he crept and sat down on the cozy rug. After a while, Agathe entered the house and kneeled down on the ground in front of a portrait consisting of a man in colonial clothes, a sailors hat and a golden staff. Agathe Oh grandfather, I hope you are well up amongst the angelic clouds in heaven but I am really concerned about my brother, Felix. He has not been home for days and the seamen said that they have seen Felixs cap drenched with blood on the trail to the Constables Tower. O please grandfather, I wish you could tell me how my brother is. Agathes actions made the Monster feel more comfortable when he sees how much this lady values her family and her loved ones. Agathe I would make you a hot mug of cocoa and a mushroom soup while the butler helps you wash and tend to your wounds. Hambert May I escort you sir, to the washing room. I hope you have a pleasant bath sir. The Monster insists and shakes his head dismissively. Monster I do not want to bath. I am hurt because of my wounds. Hambert Then I would tend to them sir. Hambert removes each bullet one by one delicately and wrapped the Monsters leg and chest with a white cloth. When the job was done, Hambert made the Monster lie down in front of the fireplace to warm up and rest. Hambert Lie down sir, I would carry the cup of cocoa and the mushroom soup from the kitchen room. The Monster who felt like he was treated exquisitely and knew that he have found friends, eventually closed his pendulous eyelids and forced his mind to sleep. Felix [off] What a useless door, I cant even get through. Arrrghhh. After a while at the back of the parlor, Felix pushes open the back door and stepped into the parlor. He saw that Agathe lurking around the fireplace jumped and hugged her; Agathe who felt overjoyed that her brother was back, cried out in delight. The sound woke the Monster.

Felix Agathe, this is an atrocious creature, the fisherman have been hunting him for days. We cant stay as outcast forever, we have to get this creature to the town and earn our prize of being fully accepted by the local society. As he spoke, he knocked the Monster down on the floor with his metal club and wrapped him up like a deceased mummy. Agathe, who felt angry because of Felixs actions, fell to the floor and cried hard; her voice echoing into the back woods like a wolf barking late into the night. With a flintlock in one hand, he threw the Monster into the automobile, started the engine and headed towards the dock. The Monster groaned with torment and screams out in affliction. Felix Close your loathsome mouth! If you spit out another word, I wont hurt you, Ill take your life! The Monster break free from the tight bandages and head locked Felix. The Monster kicked the door open and threw Felix out on the dirt road. The automobile gave an abrupt halt at the bend. Felix seizes his flintlock and fired at the Monsters craggy chest in rage. The Monster stepped out of the car and flexed his knuckles. Monster Is this a sort of evil plan, you wealthy people have made up? You guys dragged me into your house saying that you would tend to my wounds and be a friend. But look what happened in the end, I end up having bullets embedded with bullets in my chest. But I warn you, you only touched the surface, my anger is just only rising because the world is so callous to me that I would have to betray it with my power and antipathy. Beware, you hit me with one bullet but I ricochet out ten more. Felix aimed the gun at the automobiles oil tank and pressed the trigger. The car erupted in flames and the Monsters body caught fire. Felix ran into the Monster and pushed him off the cliff into the frigid stormy sea.

Afterwards: The blustering wind dragged the Monsters body out from the shoreline but the Monster fought barbarically against the strong current. The Monster grabbed hold of the Light Tower and clambered up the stairs. When he saw that the controller wasnt there, he grabbed the two controlling levers and played his game, being elated for the first time in his life.

Planning

Which scene will you rewrite? When Felix shoots the monster What is the situation in the scene? What do others do to the Monster? The monster tries to be friends with Agathe by bringing in the logs for her. When Felix left the house, the monster saw that the lady was a person who values the people she loved like her father; the monster stepped towards her and introduced himself to Agathe. Agathe, a blind person cannot see what the monster looks like. The way the monster speaks to her makes her visualize a poor outcast and she feels sorry for him. When Felix came in, and saw the monster, he who wants to be accepted by society, shot the monster because he doesnt want the monster to be near Felix and he wants to be awarded for killing a being people have been hunting for days. How will you change the situation? How might things happen differently during the scene? The Monster who was shot by the villagers, staggered along a dirt part up on to the cliff. He saw a cottage and seeks refuge. Agathe, the owner of the cottage made the Monster pass the night. Her brother, Felix who just came back from a month-long hunting, saw the monster and tries to capture him for a reward in return. The Monster fought for his life but Felix pushes him off the cliff into the stormy sea. How does this affect the Monster? What impact does it have on his life? What choices does he make as a result? The monster wants to seek revenge because nobody accepts him. The monster became more evil because people are evil to him. He started to find a friend and when he knew who created him and created these situations, he started to retaliate to these situations. He started to want to be like other people, to have a friend and to be accepted by society.

How will this affect the Monster? What impact will it have on his life? What choices will he make as a result? It makes the Monster want to retaliate to these actions. He is so full of antipathy that he is no longer friendly and kind; but violent and vicious.
