Personnel: A reminder to all:

picking up of a client in the City. The pickup was made without incident. It was later found that the individual, a 45 year old Cloquet man, had methamphetamine in his possession. He was lodged at the Carlton County Law Enforcement Center waiting formal charging. Miscellaneous: This week department administration set up a meeting to discuss the future of our Forensic Computer/Cell Phone Lab. Attendees of the meeting were Carlton County Attorney Thom Pertler, Fond du Lac Chief Sam Ojibway, Sheriff Kelly Lake, Detective Derek Randall and Cloquet Police Department Administration. All of the attendees' departments or organizations utilize the lab to aid in their investigations or the prosecution of cases. Currently Detective Randall is the only individual trained in using the tools in the lab. We were recently notified by Cellebrite; one of the main tools used to extract cell phone/tablet/GPS evidence will no longer be supported past October 2014, and is in need of an upgrade. Cellebrite currently has a trade-in offer that we can upgrade to their new forensic tool by the end of June at a cost of $4084. If we wait until after that date, the price would be over $10,500. All parties were in agreement that they wanted the forensic lab to continue based on the need to gather evidence from digital devices for complete investigations and successful prosecutions.

Detectives: On Friday, officers assisted an Arrowhead Regional Corrections probation agent in the

It was agreed that all four organizations would share in the upgrade costs of the new Cellebrite tool. Historically, our department and the County Attorney's Office have split the costs for software and upgrades to the lab. Currently the department is working with Nixle, a company that we use to push our social media alerts and notifications. We are looking to expand that relationship so that the public can send anonymous tips to our department. This is in its early stages and more information will be forthcoming as we advance with this project.
