Stewardship of the Good News

A tradition in many churches around the country that I have yet to participate in, but always find particularly interesting is that of Holy Humor Sunday. Basically a service of humorous stories and even Christian Stand-up comedy, the week after Easter Sunday. Again, I havent fully taken that into a tradition Im ready to participate fully in yet, but in that same vein, I have a story for you. Disclaimer, Im married to a Blonde. Three blondes died and are at the pearly gates of heaven. St. Peter tells them that they can enter the gates if they can answer one simple question. St. Peter asks the first blonde, "What is Easter?" The blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy! It's the holiday in November when everyone gets together, eats turkey, and are thankful..." "Wrong!," replies St. Peter, and proceeds to ask the second blonde the same question, "What is Easter?" The second blonde replies, "Easter is the holiday in December when we put up a nice tree, exchange presents, and celebrate the birth of Jesus." St. Peter looks at the second blonde, shakes his head in disgust, tells her she's wrong, and then peers over his glasses at the third blonde and asks, "What is Easter?" The third blonde smiles confidently and looks St. Peter in the eyes, "I know what Easter is." "Oh?" says St. Peter, incredulously. "Easter is the Christian holiday that coincides with the Jewish celebration of Passover. Jesus and his disciples were eating at the last supper and Jesus was later deceived and turned over to the Romans by one of his disciples. The Romans took him to be crucified and he was stabbed in the side, made to wear a crown of thorns, and was hung on a cross with nails through his hands. He was buried in a nearby cave which was sealed off by a large boulder." St. Peter smiles broadly with delight. The third blonde continues, "Every year the boulder is moved aside so that Jesus can come out... and, if he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter." Arent we glad to be out of the season of winter? Even though it hasnt warmed up where some of us would like it, I think summer is on its way! Weve also made it through the season of Lent and are now in the season of Easter. We have a lot to look forward to in the month of May. We will continue to celebrate Christs resurrection for the 50 days of Easter, celebrate our mothers and women in our lives during the Salad Luncheon on May 10th, and we will also enjoy celebrating with our Confirmands as they are confirmed on May 18th. Among all these special things, we continue gathering for Adult bible study Mondays for Perk Up! with Pastor Worship on Sundays, 5-6 grade release time, 8-9 grade confirmation, 7-12 grade YOUth group, and much more that has become a part of how we do church together. Please join us! Our church family is not the same when YOU arent a part of it! Happy Easter! In this season, we join together with the whole Christian church on earth with our shouts of ALLELUIA! Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia! Amen.
