SCIENTIFIC NOTATIONS Scientific notation is used to simplify writing very large or very small numbers. and The form of is called the standard form or scientific notation.

Every decimal numbers can be converting to that form. Converting a decimals number to its scientific notations means to move the decimal point to the left or to the right such that the point has one digit to the left of the decimals point and multiply by the corresponding power of 10. Example: Write the following number in scientific notation a. 0.036 b. 3674 Solution : a. 0.036. Here we want to move the decimal point two places to the right to get 0.036 to be 3.6. to do this we multiply by 102 x 10-2 (which is 1). Thus 0.036 = (0.036 x 102) x 10-2 = 3.6 x 10-2 b. 3674. Here we want to move the decimal point three places to the left to get 3674 to be 3.674. to do this, we multiply by 10-3 x 103 (which is 1). Thus, 3674 = (3674 x 10-3) x 103 = 3.674 x 10-3

Middle Activity (30 minute) a. Exploration :

- The students are given a stimulus form of subject by teacher (beside that for example in worksheets, the task of finding subject from textbooks or supporting books, from internet or related with environment subject, or giving examples of the subject for able to be increased by the students, from interactive media, etc) about the way to simplify a numbers in an exponent forms, transforming numbers from a negative power form into positive power forms, vice versa, also to transforming a numbers into scientific notations, vice versa, thus between students and teacher make discussion about those subject. - Students orally communicate or presenting the properties of exponent with positive integers power, the way to simplify an exponent, vice versa, transforming numbers from a negative power form into positive power forms, vice versa, also transforming a numbers into scientific notations, and vice versa. b. - Students and teacher are together to discuss an example that given by the teacher - Students solve a few problems in the textbook, or another source as individual task. - Students and teacher are together to discuss the answer from the task above. - Students solve an exercise in the textbook or another source as individual task. c.
