JUSTICE

FOR
DAN MARKINGSON
Vigil in protest of psychiatric research
abuse at the University of Minnesota

FRIDAY, MAY 9, NOON, MCNAMARA ALUMNI BUILDING
University of Minnesota, 200 SE Oak St, 55414

In 2003, Dan Markingson, a mentally ill young man from St. Paul , was placed under an
involuntary commitment order and pressured into a profitable, pharmaceutical industry-
funded drug study at the University of Minnesota, over the objections of his mother, Mary Weiss.
For months Mary tried to have Dan removed from the study, warning that he was in danger of
killing himself. The researchers refused. On May 8, 2004, Dan committed a violent suicide.

The Markingson case has generated international condemnation from the medical community.
Despite growing evidence that other psychiatric research subjects have been coerced into
pharmaceutical research studies and suffered serious injuries, the University of Minnesota has
refused to investigate.
