CAMM

COMMON ANTI-AIR MODULAR

MISSILE
AIR
LAND
SEA
CAMM, Next Generation, All-Weather, Air Defence Weapon is common to Land, Sea and Air
applications. Through the use of new advanced technologies it is able to provide complete
protection against all known and projected air targets.
This common solution will meet the air defence needs of future land, sea and air operations. The
weapon is being developed for the UK MOD as the principal air defence capability for its Frigates
and Deployed Land Forces.
Customer benefits available from a common solution utilised across multiple platforms/services:
Weapons System Modularity via use of common components
Time Frame of availability for sea and land requirements from 2015
Target Set capability against the full threat spectrum, presenting high speed, manoeuvre, low
signature and countermeasures to simpler or asymmetric threats attempting saturation attacks
Affordable due to low procurement and through-life ownership costs
Effective operation via a variety of surveillance sensor types
Command and Control system common to all surface deployments
Integration is simple for existing platforms and force structures
Opportunity for shared CAMM missile stockpiles between the Army and Navy
High rate of fire against multiple simultaneous targets
Maximised packing density of missiles in space available
Compatible with any 3D surveillance sensor for targeting
360 coverage in all engagement sectors
Wide air target set and also small naval surface craft targets
All-weather Active RF Seeker
Compact two-way data link
Third party targeting
Soft Vertical Launch technology for minimum launch signature and
high performance
Minimal logistic support required
Minimal periodic weapon system maintenance required
Maritime
CAMM will operate from the SYLVER and Mk41 launchers using a quad-pack configuration to
maximise packing density or for smaller ships, various flexible canister configurations are
available. The Soft Vertical Launch technique reduces system mass and eases installation onto a
variety of platforms. The Command & Control System is designed to enable rapid integration
with both new and existing naval combat systems where they are used.
CAMM does not require a dedicated Tracking Radar and instead utilises ship target indication
data provided by its surveillance radar to offer high levels of protection in both open and littoral
environments. This represents an acquisition cost saving in addition to ongoing support costs.
CAMM will replace the Royal Navys currently in-service VL Seawolf missile, to provide a greater
capability for a reduced cost.
Land
CAMM also offers future land forces, a highly effective and deployable, local-area air defence
system, capable of operating as either a stand-alone unit or integrated within a future battle
space network. The system deployment can be optimised to defend specific assets or areas and
to defeat specific threat types.
CAMM operates within a flexible architecture so enabling integration with a range of battle
space configurations to provide a Network-Enabled Capability. The use of third party target
information from the wider battle space network allows CAMM to engage targets that are non
Line-Of-Sight from the local launcher or sensors.
With Soft Vertical Launch technology, CAMM provides a true 360 air defence capability and
enables the rapidly relocatable launcher to operate from concealed locations against the threat
spectrum. The efficient packing density of CAMM canisters enables the entire weapon system,
including a large number of missiles, to be carried and operated from a pallet on a conventional
4-tonne vehicle, or dismounted if required. CAMM is planned to replace the UKs currently
in-service Rapier GBAD system.
Air
CAMM is easily adapted for air launch from fighter aircraft with modular seeker options and the
latest datalink technology, CAMM offers a next generation air-to-air capability.
