Prior Knowledge We have been looking at different things on the
map, we already know where the major rivers
and mountain ranges are located now we will

learn where other things on the globe are, such
as the equator and Prime Meridian.
Lesson Objective How many students know that the world is
round? We have a great model of the round
earth, called a globe. Today we will determine
where different things are on the globe.

3b. Work Session
Instruction: (Day 1)
I. Identify your concept. (include auditory and visual learning styles.)
Today we will locate the equator, prime meridian, and lines of latitude and longitude on the globe.
And then I will point to the I can statement on the board.

II. Define your concept. (Include auditory and visual learning styles.)
Basically I will show them where the different things are on the globe.

III. Explain your concept.
The equator is an imaginary line drawn around the earth equally distant from both poles, dividing the
earth into northern and southern hemispheres and constituting the parallel of latitude 0. The Prime
meridian is the zero degree longitude line. I will also define both Lines of Latitude & Longitude.

IV. Provide Examples

Section 4 - Summarizer

I will use the globe to actually show them.

Guided
Practice
Differentiation Questions
Lower level Bloom: What are we locating on the globe? (Low student)
Lower Level Bloom: Tell me one thing you know about the equator (Low to Middle
student)
Higher Level Bloom: How does the information about the globe help us in every day
life? (Middle to High student)
)
For my guided practice I will draw a circle on the board and have the students come

appropriately to my questions. state them, and
reinforce throughout the lesson.
Prior Knowledge Yesterday we talked about the things we find
on the globe
Lesson Objective Today we will review what we talked about
yesterday.

the book I read on globes.
Independent
Practice
I will print out a globe and have them label and color where the different things
are on the globe.

Reflection
(see below)

Lesson Reflection
Use the prompts below to determine areas of strength and of improvement.
If you were to teach this lesson again, what would you do the same? Why?
Areas of Strength Rationale

The repetition of my questions were very affective.

Having the students come up and draw on the
board.

The examples I used in my powerpoint were really
helpful

If you were to teach this lesson again, what would you change? Why?
Areas of Improvement Rationale

The book I read didnt really help.

They needed a lot of reinforcement I would
probably add more guided practice.

For the two areas for improvement, what would you do differently?

Add more guided practice

Have them read the book aloud instead of me
