Infanticide in Canada?
StatsCanada reports 491 aborted live births, of 20 weeks gestation
or greater (Coding P96.4 admits it affects “newborns”)

For Immediate Release December 10, 2012

OTTAWA – Recently MP Maurice Vellacott was shocked to the core and greatly saddened by
information researcher Patricia Maloney provided at http://run-with-life.blogspot.ca/2012/10/late-
term-abortions-statistics-born.html under the heading “Late term abortions statistics – born alive.”

From 2000 to 2009 in Canada, there were 491 abortions, of 20 weeks gestation and greater, that
resulted in live births. This means that the aborted child died after it was born. These abortions are
coded as P96.4 or “Termination of pregnancy, affecting fetus and newborn”.

This number does not include late term abortions that are born dead (still births).

Based on Section 223(2) of the Criminal Code, there should be 491 homicide investigations or
prosecutions in connection with these deaths. Section 223(2) of the Criminal Code reads “A person
commits homicide when he causes injury to a child before or during its birth as a result of which the
child dies after becoming a human being.” That is to say, anyone who interferes with a pregnancy
such that the child dies after it is born alive due to that interference is guilty of homicide.

This data referred to above comes from Statistics Canada
(http://www5.statcan.gc.ca/cansim/a26?lang=eng&retrLang=eng&id=1020536&paSer=&pattern=&
stByVal=1&p1=1&p2=-1&tabMode=dataTable&csid=).

To see the data for yourself:

1) After you go to the link above, click on “Add/Remove data”.

2) Go to “Step 4 - Select: Cause of death” and click on “All” twice (the first click all causes of death
to be ticked, and the second click removes all causes). Then scroll down towards the bottom and
click only on “Termination of pregnancy, affecting fetus and newborn [P96.4]”

3) Then go to “Step 5 - Select the time frame” and choose from 2000 to 2009.

You can read the descriptions of this abortion code here
(https://secure.cihi.ca/free_products/canadian_coding_standards_2012_e.pdf) at CIHI, on page 215.
The 119 live birth abortions reported by CIHI for the year 2010/2011 is a further troubling increase
from previous years when you consider that the total number of these abortions listed for the past 11
years is 491.

Here is a screen shot of the data. If you add up the columns you get 491.

Vellacott grieves those little ones, and says, “How revolting that such savagery could be inflicted on
defenseless little babies in a civilized country like Canada. How blinded can we be?”
