$he Dakar has finished and it8s (een the hardest one that @8ve done
yet. !onda has proved that it8s got a great (ike. 4o one has had to
change their engine even once in the two weeks of racing and that8s
really i&portant for #s. @ had a few pro(le&s last week/ (#t nothing
significant. @ lost a (it of ti&e/ (#t the second week went (etter. @
didn8t achieve &y goal/ (#t a& happy to finish another Dakar.
$he end was a sha&e. Be worked really hard to get a res#lt this
Dakar and @ sincerely (elieve that we deserved (etter. $hat8s the way
the race is and yo#8ve got to know how to respect it #ntil the final
day. B#t let8s look at the pl#s sideC a =o( well-done/ the high level we
showed/ the great tea& of professionals that we worked with who will
(e giving their all in the ne0t edition of the Dakar.
$he ai& was to (e fighting for victory and a place on the podi#&.
Be8ve got a year to analyse it and keep working. $he (ike and the
tea& have (een great. @n &y first year with !onda everything has
(een going really well/ and @8& going to try and i&prove in so&e
aspects/ and with all this we can take a great leap forward. $he (ike8s
potential is really good. @n a race like the Dakar it8s i&possi(le that
soðing doesn8t go wrong.
$oday is the last day of the Dakar. For #s it feels to#gh (eca#se @ lost
a lot of ti&e with an electrical pro(le& after a fall at kilo&etre 2,,
B#t today @ was (ack in the saddle like a pro/ and @ did a really good
=o( in the special. @n the end it wasn8t the res#lt that we were
working for in the Dakar. Bell/ now it8s ti&e to go ho&e and try to
get to grips with what happened/ how and where we went wrong and
see how we can sort the& o#t for ne0t year.
?ne &ore Dakar over. @t8s not to (e sniffed atE <ay(e it wasn8t the
general standings that we were hoping for/ or the individ#al or
collective ones either. @t8s (een a year of hard work where we8ve p#t
together a really co&petitive (ike with a lot of pro&ise.
@ started the Dakar with a lot of pro(le&s in the third stage. B#t @
was a(le to overco&e the& a lot (etter than &y rivals
-s the race went on @ started to reali'e that @ was f#rther ahead than
@ had e0pected. @ was very s#rprised to find &yself #p against people
that (efore @ hadn8t seen. @ had a pro(le& one day with a waypoint
(#t for the rest @8ve (een very consistent and @8& pleased a(o#t it.
@8& very happy. @t has (een a very to#gh race (#t we8ve &anaged to
finish. $he (ike was e0cellent and ca#sed no tro#(le at all. @ was a(le
to co&e (ack in a co#ple of stages and do a good =o(. .o#8ve got to
learn fro& so&e &istakes and keep looking to i&prove things.
