“ACA-TEST” APPLICATION
INTRODUCTION
It is common to see students in university complaining that academic reading is so boring that they find it
hard to focus on the reading for a long period. This is not just because the content is too academic, but also
the way they do----it is not easy to spend hours continutely on pages of academic reading alone for some
students, as a result, the reading efficiency of this type of students are relatively low. Therefore, we
decided to offer a ultimate and effective solution, to create a moblie app “Aca-Test” that can generate
relevant questions for academic reading, then students can test themselves and receive some feedback
immediately.
3. BUSINESS SECTION
3.1 Vision
To help academic readers improve reading efficiency and make academic study more funny.
3.2 Industry Analysis: Educational mobile app i ndustry
Force: High/Low: Justification:
Buyer power: High From the 50 billions apps that were download in
App store in 2013, there is 10.54% of all apps
being educational apps, this mean buyer in the
educational app market have many
choices.(Statista, 2014)
Supplier power: High The rights of using academic resources are
restricted by many different copyright policies.
The copyright provide the copyright holder
control over the use of their creation. Therefore
some academic resources are only provided by
unique supplier. (Copyright clearance center,
2005)

Threat of new entrants: High Capital requirement to entere the this industry
in relatively low because there is few inventory
needed and fixed cost on having the product are
very low. (Triple Happiness, 2012)
Threat of substitutes: High Despite interative educational app provide a
funny way to get learner excited about the
reading, instead the majority will still choose the
pysical exercies book if there is a one avalable.
(Sanofi-aventis Healthcare Pty Ltd, 2012)
Rivalry among existing
competitors:
High There are 5.27 billion competitors among this
educational app industry, and increasing trend
of the number is believed to last for a long time
in the future. (Statista, 2014)
Overall attractiveness of the industry: In conclusion, the overall attractiveness of the educaitonal app
industry is relatively low. With the low barries to entre this industry, it is generally agreed that the
competition in the future will be more intensive. Therefore, it is unlikely to survive in this industry if the
product does not have the absolute competitive advandages.
3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs
Our major customers will be those who have difficulties on focusing on long pages academci reading and
thoses who find their reading efficiency is relatively low.
This type of customers would like to have a studdy buddy, which can interact with them and test them
questions while they are doing a academic reading( or after they finish the reading). Research has found
that people like having study buddy because study buddy works by keeping track of the amount and
duration of each distracttion you encounter during the study session, and also it provides people with
personalized feedback on study efficiency. (Apple, 2009)
3.4 The Product and Services

Our product “Aca-Test” app is an effective solution for low reading efficiency and it can satisfy the
customers’ needs.
Firstly “Aca-Test” is a mobile educational app where users can use anytime and anywhere once them
download it, hence it is a loyal study buddy. Secondly it is back up with strong database of the academic
reading, users use their smart phones to scan the reading, then “Aca-test” itself can generate relevant
questions to test the users, the answer and feedback will be given immediately.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners
Supplier 1: Copyright holders of the academic reading ( as we need to create a database which is
required to access and use holders’ articles).
Supplier 2: IT support companies ( we are going to outsource the app building part to IT support
companies as we need to focus on the academic reading database itself )
Partner 1: Universities ( as the major users of “Aca-Test” will be university students, we will cooperate with
universities for marketing and advertising)
Partner 2: Smart phone system operators ( as “Aca-Test” will be operate on Apple IOS system, there will
be many agreements and cooperation with smart phone system operators like Apple and Andorld)
3.6 Strategy: Cost leadership
Scope: board market, this is because anyone who wants to improve their reading efficency could be our
customers, and most of them can download our app “Aca-Test” from apps store directly.
Cost trategy: we choose low cost, as the marginal cost of serving a addinional user is low. In addition, as
mentioned before, the marjor users will be students, so the prices of our app need to be reasonable.
The overall strategy is therefore cost leadership.
3.7 Value Chain Activity: Technology development
The most important value chain activity is Technology development.
The choosen vule chain activiti is associated with our version, we ensure our app to be able to make
acedemic more efficient and funny by simplifying the steps and increasing the database knowleadge, this
requires a very good control on technology development.

Also, emphasising on technology development could help us to enter a boarder market which is aligned to
our cost leadership strategy, as the more user-friendly the apps is, the more users there will be.
3.8 Business Processes
3.8.1. READING SCANING PROCESS---Reading scanning is process that we acquire row resources and it is the
most important customer facing process. A successful app need to be simple and user-friendly, so we need
to ensure users take as less steps as possible to scan the reading.

3.9 Functionalities
3.9.1. READING SCANING PROCESS
 Capture data from reading materials
 Matching the reading to information from database
3.9.2. ANSWERS AND FEEDBACK GI VING PROCESS
 Collect users answers
 Show users their resluts and scores
3.10 Systems

3.10. 1. ANSWERS PROCESSING SYSTEM – The idetification of users’ answers is improtant as it is the way we
understand and collect our users’ thoughts. Answers processing system will identify the category of the
answers( as some questions are multiple choice and others are not), then pross the paticular answer, and
finally transfer the answer to feedback giving system.
3.10. 2. FEEDBACK GI VING SYSTEM--- This system is important as it creates value for users by offering them
immediate useful feedback about their reading. Once the system input the users’ chosen answers, the
system will process and evaluate the answer, and match it with the existing information from data
warehouse, and finally will show users the correct answers, scores and relevant justification.
3.10. 3. DATA MATCHING SYSTEM -- This system link the captured data to existing database, which is one of
the fundamental system the support other systems. After done the materials scanning, the captured data
will be sent to online data warehouse, then the data matching system will match the captured data to
existing relevant data, questions then will be generated and sent back to users’ smart phones.
