Creative Brief

By Michelle Olin

Target Demographics:
The target demographics for the Frye Art Museum would range from 30-55, mostly college educated males
and females. The target demo would also be aware of ongoing social, political and cultural events past and
present. Not every person walking into the Frye would be an artist, however would appreciate what the fine
arts would have to offer scholastically and socially.

Client needs:
The Frye Art Museum has a unique story and a generous offering of fine arts for art lovers. The Frye has a
classic elegance without frills, leaving the art to speak volumes.

The Frye offers an ideal style on the their web site. I think it would be beneficial for the museum to utilize the
same style from that site into the kisosk, in order to communicate and help the visitor’s needs and wants. This
kiosk will make available tickets for art history courses, art classes, speaking engagements and memberships.
Admission for viewing the art collections and visiting shows are always free, however the kiosk would also
show the calendar of events coming to the Frye Art Museum.

Target goals:
To produce a user friendly kiosk that would leave the visitor to their own devices in choosing from an art
course, partaking & enjoying a guest speaker, or maybe view the calendar of events and to see what events
they can look forward to.

The kiosk design will mirror the look of the Frye’s web page, utilizing the color scheme, font choice, some of
the pictures and information made available.

Added information:
I for one think the kiosk would be successful, if it is executed well. For visitors who may not know (such as
myself) about extra curricular events and classes available because they didn’t think of the web site, it would
be readily available right there at the kiosk.

I believe with the consistency of the web page being utilized in the kiosk, the kiosk will convey the consistency
necessary for a successful visit. Visitors new to the Frye and repeat visitors will be able to understand what
other offerings the museum has available now and in the future. The Frye will be able to showcase the speak-
ing engagements, future works coming to the venue as well as give an educational perspective that art lovers
are seeking.

What Van Gogh Admired
Thursday, March 11, 7 pm
Friday, March 12, 11 am
Art History with Rebecca Albiani
“Admire as much as you can,” Vincent van Gogh advised. But Van
Gogh admired many now-obscure artists, including the Frye’s
Monticelli, Lhermitte, Isabey and Jongkind. What did he see in them,
and how did his wide-ranging taste influence his own work?

Shah Tahmasp’s copy of Firdausi’s Shahnama (completed in 1010

Persian manuscripts. Beginning around 1520, two generations of
royal painters brought the legendary epic poem to life with elegance,

The Fate of Germany’s Avant-Garde:
Expressionism, Berlin Dada,
and the Rise of National Socialism
Art History with Rebecca Albiani Thursday, January 28, 2010
7 pm
Setting the context for the series, this lecture traces the develop-
ment of the aesthetic philosophy of modern abstraction through
German Expressionism, how this was challenged by Dada’s de-
Contemporary Art with Kolya Rice velopment of artistic forms with clear social and political efficacy,
and in turn why both movements were framed as “degenerate” by
the Nazi propaganda machine.

Cultural Shamanism, Social Sculpture,
and Radical Ecology: Joseph Beuys in Context
Thursday, February 25, 2010
Art History with Rebecca Albiani 7 pm

A Luftwaffe pilot during the war, Joseph Beuys was the most
visible artist of his generation to address Germany’s recent past.
Attaining a cult-like status among younger artist, Beuys employed
Contemporary Art with Kolya Rice a carefully orchestrated persona and staged performances
intended to heal the collective German psyche through a spiritual
renewal of humanity’s bond with the natural world.
