INT. NIGHTCLUB - NIGHT
LIZZIE SMALLS (25) dances hard to EDM.
Shes got her choice of guys. She chooses a dumb-looking
HUNK named HANK. Real douchebag.
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
Theyre tearing off each others clothes when they burst in.
She doesnt bother to close the door.
Hank pauses at the PAINTINGS ON HER WALL. Little Red Riding
Hood. Big Bad Wolf. Lots of them, everywhere.
HANK
Got some sorta fairy tale fetish?
LIZZIE
If thats what you want.
HANK
You lil whore, come here.
INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY - NIGHT
PATRICK KNOWLES (late 40s, fit) comes up. Bald,
clean-shaven, wearing a TAILORED SUIT. He spots the open
door.
He knocks politely. No answer. He pushes it open.
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
The apartment is half knocked over. Lizzie shouts for help.
Patrick pulls out a CUSTOM HANDGUN.
BEDROOM:
He bursts in. Everythings dark.
PATRICK
Youre going let her go, right now.
Silence. Shuffling bedsheets.
LIZZIE
(disbelief)
... Patrick?
2.
HANK
Who the fucks this?
Lizzie flicks on a BEDSIDE LAMP. Shes draped in sheets.
Hank lies with his DICK OUT. Both drenched in sweat.
LIZZIE
What in the name of fuck are you
doing here?
Patrick shields his eyes.
PATRICK
I thought you were being attacked.
What was with the screaming?
LIZZIE
Its my apartment. Closed doors and
all that shit --
PATRICK
-- open doors, actually --
HANK
Get the fuck outta here!
LIZZIE
Shut up.
HANK
No, you shut up!
LIZZIE
Aw, stop it! Heee!
Hank smacks her, and she giggles.
PATRICK
Your door was open. You left your
door open and I was worried.
LIZZIE
Aint your job to worry about me.
HANK
The fuck even is this?
Lizzie sighs, drawn-out. Annoyed.
LIZZIE
Patricks my friend. You heard
about him on the news, aint you?
Invented that cool new kinda
(MORE)

LIZZIE (contd)
plastic. Goes on talk shows, used
to give lectures at my college.
PATRICK
Yes, great, introductions. Great.
Lizzie, you need to come with me.
LIZZIE
It cant be that important.
PATRICK
If it wasnt important, Id have
left when I saw this fuckwits
micropenis.
Hank gets off the bed.
HANK
You wanna fuckin go?
Patrick points the gun at him. Hank backs away.
HANK
Dude, youre fucking psychotic!
PATRICK
Lizzie. Get dressed and grab your
camera.
LIZZIE
Yes, sir.
EXT. DOCKLANDS - NIGHT
Lizzie and Patrick walk towards a BURNING CRUISE SHIP.
Theres smoke everywhere. A BIG CROWD has formed.
Patrick has his gun (CONCEALED). Lizzie carries a
PROFESSIONAL CAMERA.
LIZZIE
Well shit, thisll be great for my
day job but whats your stake here?
PATRICK
Its good for my night job.
LIZZIE
Funny. Night job. I get it, youre
a criminal. Thats kinda hot.
4.
PATRICK
I know.
They push through the crowd.
A GRIZZLED COP stops them. He eyes the camera warily.
GRIZZLED COP
No media here.
PATRICK
We aint media.
LIZZIE
Actually, I just got a job --
PATRICK
Were not.
He shakes the cops hand.
PATRICK
Patrick Knowles. I own this boat.
Youve probably heard of me.
GRIZZLED COP
Yes, I certainly have. I wouldnt
go near the ship if I were you.
Still putting out fires.
PATRICK
Tell me what caused this.
The cop grins. Its obvious he doesnt grin often.
GRIZZLED COP
You aint gonna believe it.
PATRICK
I think thats for me to decide.
GRIZZLED COP
Meteor, straight from the sky.
Lizzie corrects him.
LIZZIE
Meteorite.
GRIZZLED COP
Wut?
5.
LIZZIE
Meteors burn up in the atmosphere.
Meteorites hit the ground. It was a
meteorite, not a meteor.
GRIZZLED COP
It didnt hit the ground, It hit
your friends boat.
PATRICK
Let me through.
EXT. KNOWLES CRUISE LINER - NIGHT
The METEORITE has broken into chunks all over the ship. The
fires have died down. RECOVERY CREWS scour the ship to
assess the damage.
Lizzie takes pictures.
LIZZIE
Honestly, what are the chances?
PATRICK
Pretty high. Look at the skyline.
Thats smoke. Theyre dropping all
over the city.
The skyline is smoky, even in the darkness of night.
LIZZIE
Pretty sure thats smog.
A tiny red METEOR burns up above a skyscraper. Debris rains
down in a cloud of ash.
PATRICK
Did you get a picture of that?
LIZZIE
Hold on.
She steadies her camera on the ships railing. When another
meteor falls, she takes a few dozen shots all at once.
Clickclickclickclickclick.
LIZZIE
There. Tell me if you see more.
She turns off her camera. She pulls out a pen and paper.
6.
LIZZIE
So lets get started, Mister Doctor
Inventor Man. What does the great
Patrick Knowles think about the
wrath of God upon him?
PATRICK
Dont frame it like that.
LIZZIE
Come on, thats what people are
gonna say. "Smite the
Non-Believer," you know. Doesnt
look good if youre one of those
hyper-religious nuts, eh?
PATRICK
Heres what I want --
INT. NEWS OFFICE - DAY
Lizzie chats with her BOSS (50s, fat).
LIZZIE
-- and the money that would have
otherwise gone into repairs for the
ship has been donated to the
recovery effort as a whole.
BOSS
So?
LIZZIE
So thats the fuckin story, what
else you want?
BOSS
Why dont you get off Knowles dick
before I replace you with one of
the thirteen hundred other
fucktards who want your job? Dont
pitch your shit to me, just get
people clickin on your article.
INT. GYM - DAY
Lizzie slurps a BOOST JUICE. She runs on a TREADMILL.
HEADPHONES in. Her PHONE rings. She presses "ANSWER".
7.
PATRICK (OS)
"Eleven Mind-Blowing Shots of the
Metro City Meteor Shower"?
LIZZIE
Its all I could --
PATRICK (OS)
"[PICS]"? "[HIGH-DEF]"? I thought
you were gonna run a story.
LIZZIE
Its either this or I lose my job.
I could send your statement to the
major news sites --
PATRICK (OS)
Whatever. Ill call a press
conference, I dont care. You know
I did it for your benefit, not
mine, right? I did you a favour.
LIZZIE
Your favours already got me ninety
thousand clicks.
PATRICK (OS)
Without a single mention of my
name, so thanks for that, Liz. I
really appreciate it.
LIZZIE
Sorry. Im thankful. I am.
PATRICK (OS)
Thats better. And stop picking up
those fuckheads in the club.
He hangs up.
She checks her ARTICLE on her phone. She slows the treadmill
to a walking pace.
LIZZIE
Shit, a hundred twenty now.
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
Lizzie kicks back on her LOUNGE FORT: two sofas pushed
together under a sea of pillows.
She flicks on the TV. Its Patrick in an interview.
8.
PATRICK
... to the recovery effort as a
whole. Because this city doesnt
need boats, it needs people. People
like my good friend Elizabeth
Smalls, small-town college girl
came to work and ended up inundated
with debts, student fees,
exorbitant rent and living costs, a
total lack of public support or
public ... infrastructure. And my
inventions, I really believe it, I
really think I can make a
difference in the way we live. All
I want is to do real good for this
city, and that means SUPPORT, it
means giving me access to labs,
researchers, research grants,
everything. But the offices give me
nothing, they steal my patents --
INTERVIEWER
Youre accusing the U.S. government
of theft?
PATRICK
Yes. Unequivocally.
INTERVIEWER
But youre not gonna tell us what
your latest invention is.
PATRICK
Of course not.
INTERVIEWER
Is it even ready?
PATRICK
Of course it is.
Lizzie flicks off the TV. She leans back and plugs in her
music. She checks her article. Her eyes widen.
LIZZIE
Eight hundred fuckin thousand.
Holy shit, Im awesome.
9.
INT. STUDIO - NIGHT
Patrick sits across from an INTERVIEWER. Cameras have
stopped rolling. Film crew shout orders. Some time has
passed. Both Patrick and the Interviewer are tired.
INTERVIEWER
You sure youre comfortable?
PATRICK
Im fine.
Someone shouts something incoherent.
INTERVIEWER
Were back on the air.
Patrick adjusts his collar. He leans back.
INTERVIEWER
Were back with Patrick Knowles,
inventor, green energy advocate.
Okay, Pat, heres something
interesting. Theres this, uh, set
of images? Yeah, a slideshow kind
of thing, up on one of those silly
online news sites, and its got,
its already got nearly a million
clicks, its blowing up. Its about
last nights meteor shower. Can we
pull that up?
Some of Lizzies images flash onscreen.
PATRICK
Ive done all I can to help with
the recovery. Certainly more than
the municipal efforts.
INTERVIEWER
Yes of course, yes, but theres
something interesting about this,
cause a few of these pics, theyre
taken from your ship.
PATRICK
Ah. My property was impacted,
absolutely. But as I mentioned, any
money that I would have otherwise
have put into repairs has been
given to --
10.
INTERVIEWER
Yes, I know, you said that, but
these pics are real close-up. Like,
someone had to have been on your
ship to take them. Like physically
on your ship, couple feet away from
the impact site at most.
Patrick blinks. Hes slipping.
PATRICK
Thats odd. Someone on the recovery
crew must have taken --
INTERVIEWER
Recovery crew?
Shit. Major slip-up.
PATRICK
Yes, to assess the damage --
INTERVIEWER
But you said you werent doing
repairs. So why the assessment?
PATRICK
For the insurance, of course.
INTERVIEWER
But if youre recieving insurance
on the ship, doesnt that
substantially cheapen your stake in
the catastrophe? People have lost
their homes, everything, and youre
getting insurance paid back on your
personal cruise liner ... ?!
PATRICK
Well --
EXT. DOCKLANDS - DAY
Lizzie wanders the docklands. Its cleared out. Patricks
cruise liner has been moved.
Theres massive damage to the docks. Lizzie takes pictures.
She uploads a new article on her phone: "METRO CITY METEOR
SHOWER: 16 (NEW!) PHOTOS OF AN ABANDONED WASTELAND".
Her phone rings. She picks up.
11.
BOSS (OS)
Wheres my damn follow-up? You
cant just dole out 1.6 MILLION
fuckin clicks and disappear!
LIZZIE
Just uploaded. Refresh your page.
Beat.
BOSS (OS)
Cool. But ... abandoned? We got
four million people living here.
LIZZIE
Doesnt matter. Its just getting
people to click on the link. Hows
the article doing?
BOSS (OS)
... Eight thousand. Eight thousand
fifty, in a minute.
LIZZIE
Thats fuckin right.
She smirks and hangs up.
Her smile drops when she notices BLOOD. Lots of it. Smeared
on the ground.
She checks the photos she took. The bloods there.
LIZZIE
Huh. No wonder its gone viral.
She steels herself and takes more pictures. She follows the
trail along the docks.
SHIPPING CRATES:
The trail leads into a SHIPPING CONTAINER, door ajar. She
stops. Should she do this? Yes.
She opens it.
Inside is WARD, covered in BLOOD AND GORE AND BODY PARTS.
The interior is STAINED SCARLET WITH BODILY FLUIDS.
Underneath the gore, Ward is strong-jawed, handsome, stoic,
rippling muscles, like he could tear a man to shreds with
his bare hands. Hes the absolute peak of human perfection
... no, hes superhuman. Impossibly powerful.
12.
And hes shivering like a baby.
He squints against the light. His mouth hangs open.
Lizzie hesitates, then raises her camera.
FLASH.
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
Ward uses her SHOWER (OS). Lizzie sits against the bathroom
door, flipping through her new photos.
LIZZIE
Hey.
Grunt in response.
LIZZIE
Whats your name?
WARD
Ward.
LIZZIE
Youre not ... human, are you?
The shower turns off. Hank opens the door, shoving her aside
in the process. Hes dripping wet.
WARD
No. Im not.
She hands him a pile of clothes.
LIZZIE
Stole these from the washing
machine downstairs.
HANK
Thank you.
LIZZIE
It ... wasnt your blood.
Its not a question. She already knows the answer.
WARD
No.
13.
LIZZIE
Did you kill someone?
Ward goes off to another room. Lizzie stares at a painting
of the BIG BAD WOLF. Huge and muscular, drooling fangs, ears
pulled back into horns, its shadow even bigger, dwarfing RED
RIDING HOOD with its sheer size and weight.
For less than a second, Lizzies lip curls into a faint
smile. Her boss calls. Her expression fades. She picks up.
LIZZIE
The fuck you want?
BOSS (OS)
What the hell kinda pictures you
taking? Mother of god, we got two
hundred fifty fucking thousand
motherfuckers linking to this shit
on their FaceSpaces and Tumblcunts.
Whered you take those pics?
LIZZIE
Excuse me?
BOSS (OS)
Whats with the blood? Whats with
all the blood? I got the police at
my fucking office, theyre asking
me where those fuckin pictures
were taken! Answer me!
LIZZIE
Maybe itd be best if I went there
myself, wouldnt you think?
BOSS (OS)
Then get your puny ass over here!
Lizzie smirks.
LIZZIE
Im indisposed right now.
BOSS (OS)
You wanna lose your fuckin job?
LIZZIE
You wanna find someone else who can
nab us two million hits in
twenty-four fuckin hours? Ill be
there in a sec, just gimme a sec.
She hangs up. Ward pokes his head in.
14.
WARD
Who are you talking to?
LIZZIE
My boss.
He looks around.
WARD
Where is he?
LIZZIE
He called me.
WARD
I dont understand.
She waves her phone.
WARD
Hes a machine?
Lizzie laughs.
WARD
How long can I stay?
LIZZIE
Not long.
EXT. DOCKLANDS - NIGHT
CONSTABLE REGGIE finds a BUNDLE OF RED & BLUE FABRIC in the
corner of the shipping crate, covered in blood and gore.
CONSTABLE REGGIE
Huh.
He stuffs it in a PLASTIC BAGGIE and hands it to a BLOOD
SPATTER ANALYST.
BLOOD SPATTER ANALYST
What do you expect me to do with
this?
CONSTABLE REGGIE
Clean it off. Put it in evidence.
BLOOD SPATTER ANALYST
Perhaps we should let the forensics
have a look first.
15.
CONSTABLE REGGIE
Yeah, whatever, get it done. This
crates making me fuckin sick.
INT. NEWS OFFICE - DAY
An OLD COP greets Lizzie arriving at work. She shrugs.
LIZZIE
Wasnt me. I didnt take those
photos.
OLD COP
Well need to see the whole camera.
Everything on it.
Lizzie goes pale.
OLD COP
Is that a problem?
LIZZIE
Its just, Ive got ... lemme just
go through it real quick --
He takes it from her. She scowls. He flicks through.
OLD COP
Oh my god.
He looks at her.
OLD COP
Im so sorry.
She snatches it back.
LIZZIE
Told you I didnt take those
photos. I use this camera for my
modelling gigs.
She glares at her Boss, who has been leaning against the
wall with his arms crossed the whole time.
LIZZIE
The article was anonymously
contributed, wasnt it?
He scowls but nods.
16.
LIZZIE
So we have no idea who put it all
up on the net. Mustve been nice of
em to share, eh?
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
Ward is disturbed by the red riding hood motif, particularly
of one where the big bad wolf is in chains.
He examines the FRIDGE. Hes surprised at how cold it is.
He stares at the television. He feels around the edges. He
finds a button and presses it. It flicks on. He jumps.
A female NEWSCASTER relays a story.
NEWSCASTER
-- horrific crime scene at the
docks. Analysts confirm the killer
is at large, and four bodies have
yet to be identified.
WARD
It wasnt my fault.
The TV goes STATIC.
WARD
It wasnt my fault.
INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY - NIGHT
Lizzie fumbles with her keys but finds the lock broken.
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
Ward is gone. Some TABLES and CHAIRS have been overturned.
The television has been ripped out of the wall, but its
still intact.
LIZZIE
Ah, Christ. This was gonna happen
eventually.
17.
EXT. DOCKLANDS - NIGHT
Ward stumbles to the shipping container. Its covered in
CRIME SCENE TAPE. He searches for something.
WARD
Where is it --
Whatever it is, its gone. The area has been stripped clean,
as if nothing happened.
Two policemen, a DETECTIVE and a BEAT COP, approach.
DETECTIVE
Hey. You cant be here.
Ward looks at them. His face is violent and dead-eyed. The
kind of face youd see on a shark before it kills you. The
kind that elicits an involuntary, primal fear.
DETECTIVE
Shit --
The Beat Cop pulls a gun. The Detective fumbles for his.
INT. PATRICKS MANSION - NIGHT
Big house and nobody to share it with.
Patrick walks through empty, booming corridors alone. His
phone rings and he answers.
PATRICK
Lizzie!
LIZZIE (OS)
Can I ask you a favour?
PATRICK
I was just gonna call you.
INT. LIZZIES CAR - NIGHT
Her cars shitty.
LIZZIE
Theres a friend of mine, he ran
off on me and Im worried. I think
I know where he went, but if hes
not there can you help me find him?
18.
PATRICK (OS)
Im gonna stop you there. You still
owe me for that last favour.
INT. PATRICKS MANSION - NIGHT
Patrick pauses in front of a glass stand. A huge section of
the METEORITE is on display. Hes kept it.
LIZZIE (OS)
Yeah, whatever. What do you want?
PATRICK
Two things.
LIZZIE (OS)
Tell me quick.
EXT. DOCKLANDS - NIGHT
Ward shudders. He hides behind a cement barrier. GUNSHOTS
ricochet around him, harmonized by distant shouting.
Lying in front of him is the body of the Detective, limbs
torn off, face smashed in.
The Beat Cop fires at Wards position. A SWAT TEAM joins
him, armed with assault rifles.
BEAT COP
He -- he killed --
Constable Reggie takes over.
CONSTABLE REGGIE
Keep him pinned down!
CONCRETE LOT:
Lizzie pulls up in her car, some distance away. She puts on
her SHADES and turns on her camera. She mutters to herself.
LIZZIE
What the fucks going on ... ?
She aims her camera at the gun fight. Clean, crisp pictures,
with expert depth-of-field. Captures the distance and the
confusion perfectly.
Ward smashes through the barrier.
19.
Lizzie blinks and almost forgets to take a shot. The Swat
Team steps back and they almost forget to shoot. The Beat
Cop ducks behind a SQUAD CAR.
Ward shrugs off BULLET WOUNDS and slams into the Squad Car,
crushing the Beat Cop in a haze of blood and bones.
LIZZIE
Stop shooting him.
To the police? To herself? Doesnt matter. Nobody stops.
SHIPPING CRATES:
Ward mows through the police. Their bullets do nothing
against him. They retreat, but Ward is too fast and too
strong and he picks them off one by one.
They barricade themselves behind a shipping container. Not
many of them left. Constable Reggie screams into a radio.
CONSTABLE REGGIE
I dont even know how to describe
this thing, its like a fuckin
monster, a fuckin superhuman -- oh
for fucks sake, he killed the
radio, we got no fuckin radio!
He throws the radio into the ground and pulls out his gun
just as Ward slams into the shipping container. Everyone on
the Swat Team braces themselves.
Another smash. And another. The entire squads gonna be
crushed if someone doesnt intervene soon.
Lizzie intervenes.
LIZZIE
Ward.
Shes dangerously close. Ward flails and nearly hits her,
but he stops himself. Finally.
When he looks at her, his eyes betray his feelings: fright
and confusion and horror. Hes not in control.
LIZZIE
Its alright.
WARD
Whats happening ...
20.
LIZZIE
Come with me. Its gonna be
alright. Nobodys gonna hurt you.
WARD
Ill hurt you.
She reaches to him and he moves her hand away.
WARD
You cant fix me.
LIZZIE
Yes I can.
CONCRETE LOT:
The car pulls away.
SHIPPING CRATES:
Constable Reggie steps out and squints against the sun.
CONSTABLE REGGIE
Someone nab that fuckin license
plate!
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
Lizzie microwaves a TV DINNER for herself.
LIZZIE
Do you even eat food?
He picks up the chairs and table hed knocked over. He looks
a bit guilty.
LIZZIE
Yeah, cool, dont fuck up my
furniture, okay? Gotta control
yourself.
WARD
I dont think I can.
Lizzie REALLY likes that. She strokes his arm. She can
hardly believe this.
LIZZIE
Youre safe, alright? Youre safe
with me. I know who you are --
21.
WARD
You dont know anything about me.
LIZZIE
Ssh.
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - LATER
Ward sleeps on the COUCH. Lizzie watches him. She checks her
phone, almost by instinct now.
LIZZIE
Three point two million between
them. Shit.
Shes both shocked and proud.
She grabs her camera and some WARM CLOTHING and leaves.
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
Patrick wears a black suit. He crouches on a catwalk,
examining a deal going on below: STEPHANIE BRICK (17) and
some THUG (25).
Patrick checks his watch and picks up his phone.
PATRICK
(quiet)
Lizzie. Did you find your friend?
EXT. HIGHRISE - NIGHT
Lizzie lies prone on a rooftop, aiming her camera at the
WAREHOUSE. Her phones jammed between her shoulder and head.
LIZZIE
Yeah, hes asleep. Does this mean I
get out of favour number two?
PATRICK
No.
LIZZIE
Damn.
PATRICK
Just keep taking pictures.
22.
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
Stephanie makes the purchase. Its COCAINE.
LIZZIE (OS)
So who even is this?
PATRICK
Stephanie Brick.
LIZZIE (OS)
Drawin a blank.
PATRICK
Senator Stanley Bricks precious
little girl. Im vacating his seat.
LIZZIE (OS)
Ooh, I love scandals.
EXT. COURTHOUSE - DAY
Senator STANLEY BRICK emerges into a haze of PAPARAZZI,
shielding Stephanie with his bulk as if to protect her.
Everythings happening in slow motion. Hes devastated.
EXT. STANLEYS HOUSE - NIGHT
Stanley lives in a healthy suburban home. He sits on the
front stoop, smoking a CIGAR.
Patrick joins him. Hes brought his own CIGAR.
PATRICK
Heard what happened.
STANLEY
Dont fuck around with me. You
think I dont know you did this?
Cause I fuckin know it was you.
Patricks face reveals nothing.
STANLEY
Oh yeah, huge fuckin coincidence,
I get the oil lobbyists backing my
campaign, and then Mr. Green Energy
shows up at my front stoop trying
to regale me with a cigar.
23.
PATRICK
Look. Stan. Ive just done you a
huge favour.
STANLEY
A favour? Youre fuckin --
PATRICK
Hows Steph? How is she?
Stanley wants to respond, but he cant.
PATRICK
The lobbyists offer you money ...
Im offering happiness. Freedom.
Time with your daughter. Im giving
you an opportunity.
EXT. LIZZIES STREET - DAY
Lizzies out for a morning jog around the streets near her
apartment. Economical clothing, sports bra. She reaches her
apartment and stops to catch her breath.
Theres a police car parked out front, empty, silent. She
sweats -- from the exertion, or out of guilt?
INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY - DAY
There are two police officers waiting for her. TALL COP and
SMALL COP. They dont see her.
SMALL COP
Whered you find it?
Tall Cop shows off a METEORITE SHARD. Sharp. Knife-like.
TALL COP
One of them meteors came through
the roof of my building. I figured
I might as well take a souvenir.
Lizzie slinks away. Tall Cop spots her.
TALL COP
Stop moving.
Lizzie scowls.
24.
TALL COP
Elizabeth Smalls?
He pockets the meteorite shard.
LIZZIE
Lizzie.
TALL COP
Can we speak to you for a moment?
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - DAY
Lizzie sits on her couch. She hasnt had time to change. She
looks around: wheres Ward?
SMALL COP
Looking for someone?
She keeps her mouth shut. Tall Cop hands her a scrap of
paper with a LICENSE NUMBER written on it.
TALL COP
Is this your vehicles
registration?
She keeps her mouth shut.
TALL COP
You have to answer me.
Her phone buzzes. Call from "PATRICK :)".
TALL COP
Leave it.
Lizzie raises her hands in compliance. Tall Cop takes her
phone and pockets it.
TALL COP
This cars registered under your
familys name in Idaho. We gave
them a ring and they gave us your
address here.
LIZZIE
I dont think its any of your
business.
Tall Cops tone steadily rises in intensity.
25.
TALL COP
I think its my goddamn business,
cause were looking at seven
murders, three cops dead, you
realize how suspicious it is when
we send a guy into your place of
work and you field his questions,
then your car shows up at the crime
scene in the middle of a fuckin
shoot-out --
SMALL COP
(nervously)
Calm down.
TALL COP
Fuck you!
LIZZIE
You got a warrant?
TALL COP
Fuck you too! Why does everyone
always say that? We dont need a
fucking warrant, were the police!
Small Cop is getting worried.
SMALL COP
You need to calm down.
Tall Cop reaches for Lizzie and she leaps off the couch.
TALL COP
Sit your ass down!
LIZZIE
Dont touch me.
TALL COP
I said sit down!
He pulls out a TASER. Lizzie blinks in shock.
LIZZIE
Holy shit! What are you --
He shoots her.
Slow motion. The PRONGS sail through the air. Electricity
crackles through them. Ward bursts out of an adjacent room
faster than a speeding bullet. The door splinters under his
weight. He throws himself in front of Lizzie. The taser
26.
sparks against his chest. The electricity arcs around his
entire body, spreading evenly, accentuated with jagged
lightning particles. The lightning curls into his hands and
he thrusts them forward, releasing the energy into an
explosive blue ELECTRIC SHOCK.
The shock hits Tall Cop. His body goes into seizures.
Ward hits the floor hard. He rolls to his feet. Lizzie
rushes to his side.
LIZZIE
Holy shit, he --
Her hair whips around as she looks. Small Cop pulls a
handgun and fires. BANG!
The BULLET hits Wards shoulder, tearing through his shirt
but flattening out against his skin. It careens away,
spinning and twisting behind him. The twisted remains strike
Lizzie in the side of the head.
Ward leaps forward. Small Cop picks up Tall Cop. The
meteorite shard falls onto the floor.
Ward smacks the Small Cop. His bones break, skin ruptures,
blood splatters across the wall.
Tall Cop dives for the meteorite shard. Hes still stunned
but hes mobile. He drives the shard into Wards heel.
The shard breaks skin, draws bright red inhuman blood. Ward
howls in pain. He kicks out, breaking Tall Cops arm.
LIZZIE
Dont kill him --
Ward crushes his neck. SPLUT.
Lizzie and Ward stare at each other from across the room.
Theres a great distance between them. Ward dwarfs her. Hes
covered in blood, clothes ripped, heaving. Lizzies smeared
with sweat, blood dripping down her face, heaving.
Ward stumbles. Hes hurt. Lizzie rushes for him, closing the
distance almost instantly.
LIZZIE
They hurt you.
Ward nods.
Lizzie grabs the shard. She holds it up to the light.
27.
LIZZIE
Its from the meteor shower.
Ward nods. Lizzie smiles. She holds the shard to his neck.
His eyes widen.
LIZZIE
Youve got a weakness.
She drops the shard onto his chest. His breathing moves it
up and down. She swipes it onto the floor. She kisses him.
LIZZIE
Wow ...
He picks her up, easily. She wraps her legs around him.
LIZZIE
Wow.
BEDROOM:
Lights off, curtains drawn, dark and gloomy, bedsheets
discarded on the floor. Lizzie moans in pleasure.
LIZZIE
Hit me.
Ward pauses.
LIZZIE
(angrily)
Hit me!
He tries but he cant. It only comes off as a gentle touch.
LIZZIE
You cant do it. You cant bring
yourself to do it.
WARD
Im sorry.
She grins.
LIZZIE
No, no, its perfect, its --
She cant stop herself. She kisses him.
28.
INT. PATRICKS MANSION - DAY
Late evening. Patrick stares at his meteorite in its case.
Hes pulled up a chair. He sips from a glass of RED WINE.
On the arm of the chair, his phone has been buzzing
incessantly: "Outgoing Call to Elizabeth Smalls".
PHONE (OS)
Were sorry, but --
LIZZIE (OS)
(bubbly)
"Lizzie Smalls!"
PHONE (OS)
-- is not available right now.
Please leave a message at the tone.
DOOOT.
He clicks "END" and punches in the number again. The phone
buzzes: "Outgoing Call to Lizzie Smalls".
He sighs. He gets up and leaves his phone on the chair.
DINING ROOM
The television is on, another room. Some POLITICAL SHOW.
He sits down. Its set for two, but hes only cooked for
himself. Only poured WINE for himself. He eats his DINNER
while he watches the television. Its visible through an
open doorway. Hes got the REMOTE next to his plate.
The HOST talks animately with the GUEST.
HOST
And lets not forget that the
withdrawal of Stanley Brick has
caused a huge uproar in the energy
sector, Big Oil stock drops, and it
seems like a few key figures are
really taking a good look at
Patrick Knowles applications --
GUEST
Come on, hes what, forty-nine?
Practically out of diapers --
HOST
Now hold on, I think thats
immature of you to say, I really
(MORE)
29.
HOST (contd)
do, cause heres what I think of
Patrick Knowles, the big mysterious
inventor, free energy advocate,
philanthropist, the whole deal,
heres what I think: I think hes
the greatest asset this city has
seen in recent years. Maybe in the
whole country, maybe hes the next
Einstein, the next Thomas Edison.
GUEST
(bleeped out)
Are you fuckin him or what?
HOST
Excuse me?
GUEST
(bleeped out)
"Hes got the greatest assets."
Youre obsessed with this fucker.
Patrick flicks off the television. Hes exhausted.
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
Lizzie and Ward stare at the two dead cops. The apartment is
ransacked. The blood has dried. Red and blue lights shine
through the window. Sirens wail. Its raining.
LIZZIE
Probably shouldve cleaned this up.
She grabs the meteorite shard.
LIZZIE
Hope you dont mind.
WARD
We need to leave.
INT. STANLEYS HOUSE - NIGHT
Stanley enters his daughters room. Stephanie sits on the
bed, turning over a little rock-thing in her fingers. Hard
to see what it is.
STANLEY
How are you?
Stephanie says nothing. Stanley sits beside her.
30.
STANLEY
Whats this?
Stephanie shows him. Its a METEORITE SHARD.
Her hands and fingers are burned and scarred. Her skin boils
where she touches the shard. Her eyes are bloodshot.
STANLEY
Oh my fucking god! Where did you --
fuck it, give me that, give it to
me right now!
He snatches it before he realizes what hes doing. He stares
at in his hands, too terrified to let go.
When he realizes its not gonna burn him, he places it on
the bedside table.
STANLEY
What is it? Where did you get it?
EXT. CITY STREETS - NIGHT
Ward and Lizzie rush through a CROWDED STREET.
WARD
There are too many people.
Lizzie nudges an OLD WOMAN.
LIZZIE
Whats going on?
The old woman points to the sky.
OLD WOMAN
Meteor.
Lizzie traces her finger. The stars are blotted out. A fiery
METEOR races towards the city. Tiny, but scary.
LIZZIE
Thats impossible. We had meteors
earlier this week.
WARD
Theyre stalking me. Theyre coming
after me. They know where I am.
31.
LIZZIE
Who are you talking about? Aliens?
Its aliens, isnt it --
Something catches her eye. A CLASSY WOMAN (38) being mugged
by BECKY (14). Becky wields a KNIFE (although, as we learn,
its actually a meteorite shard). Her hands are blistered
and burned and torn up.
CLASSY WOMAN
Help me!
WARD
(oblivious)
I do not know their origin. They
have tracked me across countless
eons, relentless in their quest --
Lizzie barrels into Becky.
The knife slashes through her hair but misses her face.
Becky thrusts at Lizzies ear. Lizzie grabs Beckys wrist.
She pushes her down to the ground.
Becky flails her other arm, catching Lizzie in the neck.
Lizzie cringes but knees her in the shoulder. Beckys arm
drops. Lizzie squeezes her other arm and the knife drops.
Lizzie turns to the classy woman.
LIZZIE
Youre welcome --
The classy woman is running away, screeching.
A big BURLY MAN comes out of a nearby PUB. He grabs the
classy woman. She screams. The burly mans face shows
nothing but kindness.
BURLY MAN
Hey, no, Im trying to calm you
down. Are you alright, miss? Did he
hurt you? Did he take anything?
The classy woman catches her breath. Some of the burly mans
DRINKING BUDDIES follow him out. People in the crowd start
to slow down and get involved.
The drinking buddies restrain Becky. Lizzie picks herself
off the ground.
32.
CLASSY WOMAN
No, thank god. No, Im fine.
BURLY MAN
Then turn the fuck around, and say
THANK YOU to the nice young woman
who saved your life!
Lizzie massages her neck. She grins sheepishly.
The classy woman looks at her feet.
CLASSY WOMAN
Im sorry. Thank you.
LIZZIE
Dont worry about it.
Becky thrashes against the people holding her.
BECKY
Let go of me!
DRINKING BUDDY
Look, kid, its alright, we all do
bad things sometimes. Do you need
help? We can help you.
BECKY
Fuck you!
Ward approaches her. He snarls, animalistic. Hes going to
kill this kid.
Lizzie stops him.
LIZZIE
No. Ward. Its alright.
She picks the knife off the ground. Its not a knife. Its a
METEORITE SHARD. She gives it to the burly man.
LIZZIE
(to Becky)
Im so sorry you had to resort to
this. Youre not alone, alright?
There are people who can help you.
BECKY
Fuck off and die!
She looks at Beckys eyes. Bloodshot. Manic. Inhuman.
33.
LIZZIE
Get her to a hospital. Call her
parents.
Lizzie grabs Ward and drags him along.
LIZZIE
We need to keep moving.
INT. PATRICKS MANSION - NIGHT
Ding dong.
Patrick opens the door. Its Lizzie and Ward. Theyve
cleaned themselves up as best they can but theyre soaked.
LIZZIE
Hey, friend. Got plans?
BOTTOM STAIRWELL:
Lizzie comes down the stairs, towelling off her hair.
DINING ROOM:
She skirts around the dining room table to get to the
kitchen. Patrick boils some PASTA. He uses a small metal
SPOON. Ward watches with curiosity.
LIZZIE
You were expecting someone, eh?
PATRICK
Hm?
LIZZIE
Two places set at the table. Whos
the lucky lady? Where is she?
PATRICK
She didnt answer.
LIZZIE
Awww.
Patrick drops his spoon into the boiling water.
PATRICK
Dammit.
34.
WARD
Here.
Ward reaches into the boiling water and fishes it out.
He presents the spoon to Patrick ... and is taken aback by
the look of utter horror.
WARD
What is it?
PATRICK
You just --
The three of them stare between each other. Patrick is
horrified. Ward is confused. Lizzie is frustrated.
LIZZIE
I didnt want you to know.
LIVING ROOM:
They sit on the couches in the living room. Lizzie holds
Wards hand. Ward looks down at his feet.
LIZZIE
... He protected me. But it got out
of control, and my apartments a
mess, and I think theyre looking
for us. I didnt want to run to my
family because theyve already
talked to them, they already know
who I am, where Ive come from,
everything except for --
PATRICK
-- except for me.
LIZZIE
Yeah.
PATRICK
Youve put me in a bit of a
position, havent you.
LIZZIE
This isnt about me. Im fine. If
they catch us, I was a victim, I
was scared, and this big mean
dangerous man swept me away.
35.
PATRICK
No kidding.
Patrick looks Ward up and down. Hes worried, and hes
over-protective, and hes ready to defend his home from this
intruder, but hes also impressed.
Lizzie ruffles Wards hair.
LIZZIE
No, this is all for him. Hes a big
softie, really.
WARD
Please dont.
LIZZIE
Youve seen what he can do. And
thats nothing. He took a taser and
a bullet and shrugged it off, Ive
seen him tear through a concrete
wall, Ive seen him pick up a car,
hes powerful. But hes scared.
Everyones trying to kill him and
he doesnt like fighting back, do
you, Ward? You hate it.
Ward bites his tongue.
PATRICK
Im in a delicate position here.
Any sort of difficulty, any run-ins
with the law could set me back
years. This is dangerous.
LIZZIE
Letting a friend stay in your
house?
PATRICK
A friend and a monster. Ill be
putting a lot on the line for this.
You know that, right?
She nods but doesnt look him in the eye.
Patrick leans way over and clasps her chin. He forces her to
look at him.
PATRICK
Lizzie. You are always welcome in
my home, and you owe me nothing. I
only need you to understand what it
is youre asking of me.
36.
Lizzies gaze softens.
INT. PATRICKS MANSION - LATER
Lizzie and Ward walk down the hall.
WARD
How well do you know this man?
LIZZIE
Better than my dad. Hed never do
anything to hurt me, not like that
cop. That cop was insane, wasnt
he? It was self-defense, sorta. We
were defending ourselves.
WARD
But is he trustworthy?
LIZZIE
Unequivocally.
They keep walking. Wards forehead crinkles. He looks to her
and raises a finger.
WARD
What does --
LIZZIE
It means without a doubt.
WARD
Ah. Right.
He turns the corner and shows Lizzie the meteorite. He knew
it was there. Hes pissed.
WARD
If its without a doubt, then what
exactly is this?
Lizzies surprised.
WARD
(shouting)
What is this?!
LIZZIE
Shh -- shh, it hit his boat.
37.
WARD
What?!
LIZZIE
Keep your voice down! That meteor,
it destroyed his boat, fell down
and broke his boat, exploded, but
it looks like he managed to recover
it, thats what it looks like ...
Patrick pokes his head into the hall.
PATRICK
Im storing it here while I
consider who deserves it best. I
was thinking the Metro City museum,
but perhaps Houston would put it to
better use. Why are you shouting?
LIZZIE
Sorry, Pat. Its just, these bits
of meteor -- MMF!
Ward covers her mouth. She tries to pull away but his grip
is too strong. Patrick strides towards them.
PATRICK
Let go of her.
Ward releases her. She stumbles away, wiping at her mouth.
He gives her a meaningful glance: "Dont say a word."
PATRICK
What were you gonna say?
LIZZIE
Nothin.
Patrick gives her a meaningful glance: "Im your friend."
WARD
It was nothing.
Patrick clasps her on the shoulder. Gentle. Coercive.
PATRICK
Lizzie. You can tell me anything.
Lizzie looks from Patrick to Ward. She has to pick between
them. Its obvious shes going over the options in her head:
her trusted friend, and her big bad wolf.
She picks Ward.
38.
LIZZIE
Its just a game we play. You know
how things get.
Patrick bites his lip. He looks back and forth from Ward to
Lizzie, gears turning.
PATRICK
Can I speak to you in private?
LIZZIE
We cant leave Ward alone.
PATRICK
Fine, you want me to go through the
rules, right here?
LIZZIE
Yes.
PATRICK
I cant let anyone know youre
staying here, because this could
ruin me if it gets out. So you stay
in the house whenever possible, you
disguise yourself during the day,
and you absolutely do not get into
any more trouble. You sleep apart,
and you keep him on a short leash.
WARD
Whats a leash?
Lizzie and Patrick look at him.
LIZZIE
Think of it as a compliment.
Ward doesnt believe her.
BEDROOM:
Lizzie enters through a sliver of light. Ward rises. Hes
shirtless.
WARD
He said we sleep apart.
She yanks on his arm (he doesnt budge).
LIZZIE
Get up. I forgot my camera.
39.
WARD
So?
LIZZIE
So its got pictures of you in a
shipping crate covered in blood! I
took them off the display, but
theyre still stored on the hard
drive. Theyll find them.
WARD
So?
LIZZIE
So if they catch us, theyll think
I helped you.
WARD
... except you HAVE --
LIZZIE
Thats not the point!
INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY - NIGHT
Her doors covered in police tape. Locks broken, but its
bolted shut.
Ward breaks through with ease.
INT. PATRICKS MANSION - NIGHT
Patrick drapes himself in a fashionable suit. He looks over
his meteor. He puts his hand against the glass. Sizzling.
Its hot. He wrings his hand from the pain.
His phone rings. He picks up. He listens for a moment.
PATRICK
Im coming.
FRONT HALL:
He leaves in the dead of night.
40.
INT. LIZZIES APARTMENT - NIGHT
Lights are off.
LIZZIE
My camera should be on the desk.
She feels around in the dark. Ward looks around. He has no
trouble with the darkness.
WARD
What are you doing here?
Lizzie gives him a look.
LIZZIE
I thought we went over this.
WARD
Not you.
Constable Reggie flicks on a desk lamp.
CONSTABLE REGGIE
Heh.
Ward tenses up, ready to fight. Lizzie freezes. Reggies got
a PISTOL trained on her.
CONSTABLE REGGIE
I was wondering when youd notice.
Ward stalks towards him.
CONSTABLE REGGIE
Move and Ill shoot her.
(to Lizzie)
Figured youd come back. Nobody
believed me, but I knew it. He
isnt holding you hostage, is he?
Youre helping him. Youre --
Ward blows Reggies brains out with a blast of energy.
Reggies hand squeezes. The gun fires.
BANG. Lizzie goes DOWN.
WARD
NO!
He smashes Constable Reggies body into bloody bits, first,
before anything else.
41.
He kneels by Lizzie. Shes been hit in the gut. Blood spews
out of her. She tries to dismiss him. Shes totally fine.
Ward doesnt know what to do -- he cant bring himself to
touch her. Hes afraid.
LIZZIE
Right, so --
(coughing blood)
-- cameras definitely not here.
Must be in the police station ...
WARD
(interrupting)
What do I do ... !
LIZZIE
Im fine, just pick me up --
He grabs her hand ... and BREAKS HER FINGERS in his grip.
CRACCCKKKK. She screams in pain.
LIZZIE
Okay, fuck you! For fucks sake,
take me to a hospital!
WARD
Whats that?
INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT
Lizzie lies unconscious in a HOSPITAL BED. Her hand is
wrapped in a CAST and her stomach is BANDAGED UP.
Nearby, Ward fields questions from a NURSE.
NURSE
Whats her name?
WARD
... Lizzie.
NURSE
Her full name.
Ward thinks for a moment. It comes to him.
WARD
Ah. Elizabeth Smalls.
42.
NURSE
And you are?
WARD
Ward.
The nurse sighs from impatience.
NURSE
Your full name.
Ward stares at her.
NURSE
Whatever, fine, it doesnt matter.
How old is she?
WARD
I dont know.
NURSE
She looks older than eighteen. She
shouldnt be here.
Lizzie sits up. Groggy.
LIZZIE
Im twenty-five.
The nurse chuckles to herself.
NURSE
You came in here with a smashed
hand and a bullet wound, and youre
twenty-five years old.
LIZZIE
Why is that --
NURSE
This is a childrens hospital.
Lizzie gives Ward a look: "Are you fucking serious?"
He opens his mouth --
CRASH
Part of the ceiling breaks away.
43.
EXT. STANLEYS HOUSE - NIGHT
Stanley and his WIFE rush outdoors to stare at the night
sky. Stephanie quietly joins them.
METEORITES are falling. Hundreds of them, down to the city,
splashing fire in the streets. Each one alone doesnt do
much damage -- basically harmless -- but they chip away at
the buildings and the roads from sheer numbers alone. The
WHISTLING can be heard even way out in the suburbs.
STEPHANIE
Thats where it came from.
STANLEY
I know. I know.
INT. STRIPCLUB - NIGHT
In the back room of the STRIPCLUB, Patrick and SLIMY SAM
conduct business in full professional attire.
SLIMY SAM
You know, most drug dealers live at
home makin minimum wage.
PATRICK
Im not a drug dealer. Im a
caregiver and a businessman. I give
people what they want.
SLIMY SAM
Funny, I thought I had that market
cornered.
Slimy Sam gestures to the patrons in the other room. FAT
CATS giggling like babies at the STRIPPERS.
PATRICK
Except theyre not my clients.
Youre my client in this
arrangement. Im afraid my requests
are a little more boring than
youre used to ... all I want is a
warehouse and lab equipment, and in
return ... you get what you want.
SLIMY SAM
Shit, I can get you a warehouse.
What size?
44.
EXT. CITY SKY - NIGHT
We follow a METEORITE whistling down to the city with a
burning flame-trail. It barely misses a HELICOPTER and two
SKYSCRAPERS, passing under a BRIDGE to hit --
INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT
Earthquake-like shudder. The nurse is thrown into Wards
arms. She blushes. Ward pushes her. Hard. She coughs.
He picks Lizzie up out of the bed. He places her on her
feet. Shes unsteady.
LIZZIE
Im fine.
CRASH! Somewhere else in the building.
The nurse dashes for the door, past Ward and Lizzie
NURSE
Oh my god, the children --
Ward blocks her, but the force of his strike knocks her
against the wall. She goes down. Her heads bloody.
Ward stares at her. Is she unconscious? Dead?
WARD
Oh.
Lizzie rushes to the nurses side.
LIZZIE
Ohhhhh geez, what did you do?
WARD
It wasnt my fault.
Lizzie checks her pulse.
LIZZIE
Shes fine. We have to wake her up.
WARD
Leave her.
LIZZIE
This is a childrens hospital.
45.
WARD
We have to go.
LIZZIE
You didnt hear what I said. This
is a CHILDRENS hospital.
RADIOLOGY:
CANCER PATIENTS, none more than 12 years old, pile out into
the halls. The SPRINKLERS are on. Theyre all soaked.
The sound of whistling gets louder.
SLLLLLAMMMMMM!! A METEORITE crashes straight through the
ceiling, knocking down a SUPPORT PILLAR. The ceiling
collapses, trapping TWO KIDS under the debris.
A SWAT TEAM pours into the area. They usher the rest of the
kids out of the halls to safety. A WHITE COP turns to his
BLACK COP partner.
WHITE COP
Where is she?
BLACK COP
Shell be in emergency. Get these
kids outta here.
The White Cop takes the kids out of the building. The Black
Cop and the rest of the Swat Team shuffle to --
EMERGENCY:
Ward and Lizzie shove their way through a crowd of other
DOCTORS and NURSES. Its chaos, but Ward clears a path.
Lizzie carries the nurse, who is hurt but conscious.
NURSE
Radiology, theres kids ...
LIZZIE
Ill help them.
NURSE
No, not you, someone with ...
A DOCTOR scoops her out of Lizzies grasp.
The Swat Team spots them.
46.
BLACK COP
There they are!
The Black Cop fires two warning shots into the air.
Deafeningly loud, even over the sound of meteorites.
BLACK COP
Everybody get down on the ground!
Ward barrels into them. They open fire. Their bullets do
nothing. Blood splatters across the walls.
Lizzie rushes past the fight, limping.
RADIOLOGY:
She searches frantically.
LITTLE GIRL (OS)
Help me!
Lizzie stumbles to the debris. She pulls away a chunk of
drywall to see the face of the LITTLE GIRL.
LIZZIE
Ill get you out! How many are in
there with you?
LITTLE GIRL
Two of us!
A LITTLE BOY can be seen shivering behind her.
LIZZIE
Whats your name?
She starts to pull away the debris. Blood leaks out of the
bandage on her stomach.
LITTLE GIRL
Liza ...
Lizzie smiles.
LIZZIE
Short for Elizabeth? Thats my
name, too.
LITTLE BOY (OS)
Im Jeremy!
47.
LIZZIE
A brave name. Just hold on.
She clears away most of the wreckage and props herself up
under a pillar. Her wound is not doing well.
LIZZIE
Nows your chance!
The Little Boy scampers out first. The Little Girl is next,
but her foot gets stuck on a chunk of PIPING.
LITTLE GIRL
Help!
Lizzie tries to help the Little Girl and hold up the pillar
at the same time, but she cant. She drops the pillar. The
debris shakes overhead.
Covered in dust, Lizzie puts her weight into the piping. It
snaps away.
The Little Boy grabs the Little Girls hand. He pulls her
out, but Lizzies trapped now.
The two kids hesitate.
LIZZIE
Dont worry about me, Im big and
strong! Go!
EXIT:
As the Little Boy races to the exit, a DEAD COP flies into
him, smashing him into the wall.
LITTLE BOY
Aaagghh!!
EMERGENCY:
Ward tears off the Black Cops HEAD. He is drenched in
blood. Its clear he didnt limit himself to the swat team;
dead doctors and nurses litter the hallway, torn apart.
More police officers round the corner, wielding stun guns,
tasers, batons, and other non-lethal weapons. Ward scowls.
RADIOLOGY:
Lizzie squeezes through a tiny gap to freedom. With her legs
still stuck in the debris, another CRASH! resounds and the
ceiling collapses even more.
48.
Lizzie twists her head. An fMRI MACHINE comes exploding
through the roof, inches from her face, tearing through the
walls and floor with its bulk.
The only freedom is through the machines HOLLOW TUBING.
EXIT:
A chunk of METEORITE slides next to the Little Girl. She
picks it up and begins to slice away at the corpse to get to
the Little Boy.
LITTLE BOY
Help me!
An X-RAY MACHINE pokes through holes in a nearby wall,
groaning and threatening to tear through at any moment. If
it falls, it will break the wall and crush both children.
EMERGENCY:
Ward muscles through five direct taser hits. He leans his
head back and roars. BLUE ELECTRIC SHOCKS explode from every
pore in his body.
RADIOLOGY:
Lizzie is climbing through the fMRI Machine when electricity
supercharges it. The machine hums and spins and crackles
with power.
Lizzie clutches her head and screams. Shes surrounded by
the tube. Theres no way out but forward or back. She forces
herself to move.
EXIT:
The X-Ray Machine pushes the drywall apart. Its dangerously
close to falling on the children.
The Little Girl cuts away the corpse and yanks the Little
Boy to his feet, but part of his HOSPITAL GOWN has caught on
the corpses UTILITY BELT. He cant move.
EMERGENCY:
Ward melts a HAPLESS POLICE OFFICER with the power of his
mind. The officers UNIFORM catches fire. The sprinklers put
it out.
RADIOLOGY:
Lizzie collapses out of the fMRI Machine just as the
interior tube sends DEADLY SPARKS flying.
49.
She checks the bandages on her stomach. Drenched red with
her own blood.
LIZZIE
Shit.
LITTLE GIRL (OS)
Help!
LIZZIE
Im coming for you!
She stumbles over to the kids.
EXIT:
The X-Ray Machine threatens to fall at any moment. Its
leaning at an awkward angle.
Lizzie pulls on the Little Boy but hes stuck.
She unbuckles the Utility Belt, picks the Little Boy up,
motions for the Little Girl to grab her bandaged hand, and
all three of them run for the exit just as the X-Ray Machine
crashes down where they were standing.
EXT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT
Theres a crowd gathered outside the hospital, made up
almost entirely of sick children. Lizzie deposits the two
kids. The Little Girl gives her a passionate hug.
LITTLE GIRL
Thank you.
A frantic MOTHER approaches Lizzie. Shes bleeding from a
head wound and is barely conscious.
MOTHER
My daughter --
She deliriously points up to the SECOND FLOOR. Theres fire
and smoke everywhere. Becky, the girl from the street,
pounds against a WINDOW.
INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT
Lizzie stumbles up the STAIRWELL. Her bandages leak blood
all over her legs and torso.
As soon as she hits the top, the stairwell collapses,
leaving her stranded on the second floor.
50.
LIZZIE
Shit!
PATIENT ROOM:
Lizzie bursts through the door in a haze of smoke.
Becky shouts in surprise.
BECKY
You!
LIZZIE
Yeah, me --
Lizzie coughs, but shes still lucid.
BECKY
Oh my god. Oh my god, thank you --
Lizzie feels for a latch on the window. Nothing.
LIZZIE
Help me pick up the bed --
They try, but its too heavy.
Lizzie grabs the INTRAVENUS STAND with her one good hand and
throws it against the window.
EXT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT
SHATTER
The intravenus stand sails to the ground, clattering in a
shower of glass.
We cant see any of the kids that were here before -- not
from this angle. We cant hear any noise from them, either.
Ward steps up to the broken glass. Hes covered in blood.
INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT
Becky starts tying SHEETS together into a MAKESHIFT ROPE.
LIZZIE
Theres no time!
The sheets catch fire even as theyre in Beckys hand. She
shrieks and clutches Lizzie.
51.
Lizzie takes a single step up to the open window. She calls
out as loud as she can.
LIZZIE
WARD!!
Becky huddles into Lizzie out of fear.
BECKY
What are we gonna do ...
Lizzie holds her tight and takes the second step onto the
ledge. She breathes in deep.
BECKY
What are we --
Lizzie steps out into the open air. She drops.
EXT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT
Ward catches both Lizzie and Becky. Hes sticky and slimy
with blood.
He gently places them on the ground.
Becky breaks down into tears. Lizzie comforts her.
LIZZIE
Its okay. Its gonna be okay.
Were safe now. Were alright.
But Becky is inconsolable.
Lizzie looks up.
Behind Ward, every single child has been slaughtered, and
Beckys mother lies HEADLESS in the middle.
Theyre dead. All of them.
LIZZIE
Ward ...
Ward backs away. He steps through the corpses of children.
LIZZIE
Ward, no ...
Becky wails.
52.
LIZZIE
Its not you ... youre not in
control ... this isnt you ...
Ward backs away, and breaks into a run. He disappears behind
the flames.
Lizzie falls to her knees. She cries. Snot and salty tears
streaking down her cheeks. Eyes red and puffy. Lips pulled
back, wailing, blubbering, uncontrollable.
She pulls Becky in. They sob.
A Swat Team approaches through the fire.
INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY
Lizzie sits alone under fluorescent lights. She barely
moves. She stares at her hands, one of which is still
wrapped up in bandages, the other cuffed to the table.
Nothing happens for a solid 20-30 seconds. Her breathing
slows down.
The door opens.
Patrick enters. He sits down. He says nothing.
They look at each other. At first, neither betray any
emotion or familiarity.
Then Lizzie rolls her eyes. They exchange a silent
conversation through their faces and body language.
Lizzie: "What are you doing here?"
Patrick: "I cant tell you."
Lizzie: "Come on."
Patrick: "We dont have much time."
Lizzie: "Bullshit."
Patrick: "Im angry with you!"
Lizzie scowls. She pulls against the cuffs. They rattle
uncomfortably. Her wrist is red.
PATRICK
This is the first time you will
tell me about him.
53.
Lizzie is confused at first, but then she remembers and
sighs. She nods. She plays along.
LIZZIE
(sarcastically)
Thats right. You had no knowledge
of the connection between Ward and
me. This is the first youre
hearing of it.
Patrick smirks.
PATRICK
Ward. Was that his name? Huh.
LIZZIE
Can we be serious?
PATRICK
I was being serious.
LIZZIE
Just to be clear, youre here
because I wont talk to anyone,
right? I havent said a word.
PATRICK
Yes.
LIZZIE
So our little friendship wasnt
quite as secretive as I thought.
PATRICK
No, I came here on my own. They
told me to wait, but since you
havent been talking, they asked me
to come in.
LIZZIE
Id talk more if theyd let me have
my camera.
PATRICK
I dont think thats --
LIZZIE
Because theyre not gonna find the
pictures they want by browsing
through the viewfinder. They need
to get into the hidden files on the
drive. Ive got the password.
54.
PATRICK
And youre going to give it to
them?
LIZZIE
Of fucking COURSE I am! Hes a
monster. I know what he looks like,
and I know his weakness. I know how
to hurt him.
They both pause. Lizzie looks at the ONE-WAY MIRROR.
LIZZIE
What, you thought I was being
difficult?
She stands up. Its awkward with the cuffs. She has to bend
over a little.
LIZZIE
Maybe Id be more cooperative --
She lifts up her shirt to expose the bandages around her
midriff. Theyve been freshly applied and cleaned.
LIZZIE
-- if one of your officers hadnt
SHOT ME IN THE FUCKING STOMACH!
PATRICK
What happened to your hand?
Lizzie smacks the cast into the table.
LIZZIE
Ward.
PATRICK
Thats all he did to you?
LIZZIE
It was an accident. He trusts me.
And were gonna take him down.
PATRICK
How?
The door opens. NOBODY steps in. Clearly a government agent.
Man in black. Bit younger than Patrick.
PATRICK
Who are you?
55.
INT. SECRET GOVERNMENT FACILITY - DAY
Nobody wades through a sea of COMPUTER GEEKS at their
consoles, tapping away. Lizzie and Patrick follow him.
Another GOVERNMENT AGENT waves to Nobody.
GOVERNMENT AGENT
Morning, Nobody.
NOBODY
Morning, Nobody. Hows the coffee?
GOVERNMENT AGENT
Like sex in a canoe ... fucking
close to water.
NOBODY
Ha. Board room open?
GOVERNMENT AGENT
Everybodys waiting.
Through some BLAST DOORS.
BOARDROOM:
Nobody takes a seat. Hes out of place; the BOARD is made up
of old white men, none under the age of 55. Dressed in
immaculate business suits. Theres something weird about
them. Inhuman and unmoving, like theyre made of WAX.
At the head is EVERYBODY (70). White suit, thick white hair,
impressive beard. He is the only one who moves.
Lizzie and Patrick stand at the door. Lizzies eyes dart
around the room. Patrick is stoic.
NOBODY
They came willingly.
Everybody leans forward. Every movement is deliberate.
EVERYBODY
Good.
Everybody places Lizzies camera on the table.
EVERYBODY
Ms. Smalls. Would you kindly?
She nods. She gulps. She leans over to the camera, bumping
aside one of the Board members. She recoils in shock.
56.
LIZZIE
Holy shit! Theyre not --
NOBODY
Theyre made of wax, yeah. Its
weird. I know.
Lizzie touches the WAX MAN. Her fingers leave a smear across
its face.
EVERYBODY
Please dont do that.
Lizzie ignores him.
EVERYBODY
Please. He doesnt like it.
She gives him a look: "What the fuck is wrong with you?"
NOBODY
Everybodys a little bit strange.
LIZZIE
No one is THAT strange.
NOBODY
No, sorry. I shouldve introduced
you. This is Everybody. His name is
Everybody.
LIZZIE
Oh. Thats stupid.
Everybody cracks a smile.
EVERYBODY
Thats not my real name.
LIZZIE
I gathered.
Lizzie takes the camera and ejects the CARD inside.
LIZZIE
Gonna need a computer.
Nobody gets up and leaves.
LIZZIE
Right.
Patrick places his hand on Everybodys shoulder. He leans in
close.
57.
PATRICK
Patrick Knowles.
EVERYBODY
I know who you are.
PATRICK
Im just reminding you.
EVERYBODY
I assume youre going to ask me
about the pending application for
your inventions?
PATRICK
Thats on my mind, yeah.
LIZZIE
You know him?
PATRICK
Im the reason youre here.
Lizzie steps back out of caution. She looks around. The room
is claustrophic and creepy and muted with odd colours. Shes
alone, in a sense. She shrinks into herself.
She winces. She clutches her stomach.
PATRICK
You alright? Im sorry, I should
have told you I was behind this.
Youre out of your element.
LIZZIE
No its --
She swallows.
LIZZIE
Gunshot wound.
PATRICK
What?
Pause.
PATRICK
Oh. Lizzie, well get you care but
there are people dying --
Nobody returns. Hes carrying a HIGH-TECH LAPTOP. He places
it carefully on the Board.
58.
LIZZIE
Dont worry about me.
Lizzie plugs the cameras card into the computer. The
pictures load up. She right-clicks "SHOW HIDDEN FILES" and
enters a 6-digit password: "FENRIR".
Not many photos. One of Ward, and about a dozen of the
gunfight at the docks.
She copies them to the laptops desktop.
LIZZIE
Is that all you need?
NOBODY
You said you knew how to hurt him.
LIZZIE
I do. The only thing to ever break
his skin is a meteorite shard.
Everybody grins from ear to ear.
EVERYBODY
Interesting.
LIZZIE
Oh, and he hates bright light.
Everybody pulls on Patricks sleeve.
EVERYBODY
You wanted the freedom to pursue
your research. And now Im giving
it to you.
Patricks face lights up. But then he realizes --
PATRICK
Oh shit. The meteorite in my house.
LIZZIE
Shit.
PATRICK
He could be there already.
59.
INT. PATRICKS MANSION - DAY
Lizzie enters the house through the front door, alone. She
has a POLICE RADIO in her JACKET POCKET.
Its quiet. Empty.
KITCHEN:
She searches around. There are still plates and dishes on
the counter from the night before. Metal spoon. Etc.
LIVING ROOM:
Nothing. Couch is in a different position, though. Moved.
LIZZIE
Hm.
DINING ROOM:
Empty. Plates cleared, table wiped down. Nothing of
interest. Through the living room doors, a shadow moves.
HALLWAY:
Lizzie advances on the Meteorite. Its untouched.
She reaches for it, but she pulls back her hand.
LIZZIE
Its hot. Weird.
She pulls out the police radio. KTTZZCH.
LIZZIE
He isnt here.
Radio silence.
LIZZIE
Hello?
She shakes the radio.
LIZZIE
Oh christ, hes killed them.
WARD (OS)
Killed who?
Ward grabs her by the shoulder. She leaps away, back to the
wall, holding the radio out like a weapon.
60.
LIZZIE
Ward.
WARD
Lizzie.
They stare at each other. No words. Ward raises his hands in
surrender.
PATRICK (OS)
Smile.
FLASH. Patrick has attached a huge HALOGEN LAMP to Lizzies
camera. It blinds Ward. Patrick moves towards the Meteorite,
but Ward is too big and bulky to manoeuvre past.
LIVING ROOM:
Patrick ducks behind a couch and recharges the flash, out of
sight, hopefully.
HALL:
Ward blinks away the after-image and chases Lizzie up the
stairs. He spots her duck behind a door.
BEDROOM:
Ward bursts through. BLINDS are drawn. LIGHTS are off. Ward
searches around in the dark.
CLOSET:
Lizzie peers through SLITS in the closet doors. She watches
Ward pick up the entire BED with his bare hands. She stifles
a whimper.
WARD
Lizzie ...
He throws the bed against the wall. BANG! He slumps down and
puts his head in his hands.
WARD
Im so sorry ...
The radio crackles.
NOBODY (OS)
Miss Smalls? Elizabeth? Respond.
Ward throws open the closet doors. Lizzie stares at him,
paralyzed. She holds the radio to her lips.
61.
LIZZIE
I might have to get back to you.
HALL:
Patrick readies the camera. He searches for Ward.
Seeing nothing, he rushes to the meteorite. He flips a
SWITCH under the glass case. Flaps rise to show WHEELS.
He flips off the BRAKES. Its noisy.
BEDROOM:
Ward hears him. He snarls. He leaves Lizzie and leaps
towards the door.
LIZZIE
Ward! Stop!
Ward stops. He turns.
WARD
You were wrong about me ...
She roars. She lunges for him, METEORITE SHARD appearing in
her hand. Radio goes flying.
She swipes, misses, hes too fast, she stumbles but rolls to
her feet, grabs the radio, throws it at his face, he dodges
easily but shes on him again, slicing the shard through his
arm, slicing off a STRIP OF SKIN, spattering blood across
her face, her clothes, the wall, the floor --
Ward hits her, not at full strength. Shes winded, knocked
back, but nothing more.
WARD
Lizzie.
They stand at each other, just like they did in her
apartment before, a great distance between them. Both
covered in blood and heaving.
WARD
I was wrong.
The wound in his arm heals. Fresh skin.
WARD
You can change me. You can. Lizzie,
I would never hurt you.
62.
Lizzie advances. She leans in, as if to kiss him, but her
eyes are full of hatred. She whispers in his ear.
LIZZIE
You really think thats gonna work?
WARD
Please, you have to --
Lizzie is on him like an animal, slicing her Meteorite Shard
across his throat.
Ward screams, roars, flails blindly. His jugular vein sprays
blood in a fountain.
EXT. PATRICKS MANSION - DAY
Lizzie and Patrick shove the Meteorite into the back of a
BLACK VAN. Two other BLACK VANS drive in other directions.
LIZZIE
Go!
INT. BLACK VAN - DAY
The VAN DRIVER floors the accelerator. Its not Nobody.
The back of the van swings open. Patricks mansion can be
seen. Lizzie examines it.
LIZZIE
Maybe I actually --
Ward explodes through the front door, taking a chunk of wall
with him. His throat has started to heal.
LIZZIE
For fucks sake, hes coming!
The van hits a BUMP. Ward runs towards them, impossibly
fast, asphalt exploding from the impact of his feet. Gaining
on them. Lizzie yanks on the van driver.
LIZZIE
Faster!
The van driver looks at her. His eyes are bloodshot and his
hair is falling out.
63.
LIZZIE
Jesus christ --
The van driver tries to speak, but his teeth break off from
his gums. He moans. His cheeks sink behind his mouth. His
skin peels from his face.
LIZZIE
Oh my fucking god, Jesus fucking
motherfucking Mary Mother of God --
Another BUMP. The van driver tumbles out of his seat.
Lizzie clambers up into the front. She kicks out the door
and shoves the dying Van Driver out. She takes the wheel.
Its difficult with only one hand. She moves the steering
wheel with her wrist. She spins the van out of the way of a
POLICE BARRIER.
EXT. SUBURBAN STREET - DAY
A line of police officers fires at Ward. He isnt even
slowed down. He crashes through them, tossing cars casually
to the side.
INT. BLACK VAN - DAY
Bumpy. They drive straight through a gas station, brushing
past cars and people with barely an inch to spare.
PATRICK
What the hell just happened?
LIZZIE
I dont know, the driver was
falling apart, his skin was melting
off his face like Raiders of the
Lost fuckin Ark --
Patrick looks to the Meteorite in horror.
EXT. GAS STATION - DAY
Ward streaks through after them, smashing people into pulp,
blasting beams of energy from his head that carves through
the fuel lines --
The gas station explodes.
64.
INT. BLACK VAN - DAY
The van pitches and topples. The glass case breaks. The
meteorite tumbles out of the van. Patrick dives after it,
out the back.
The van teeters on its wheels, then rights itself.
EXT. GAS STATION - DAY
Ward walks out of the smouldering wreckage. He approaches
the van. Lizzie crawls out the smashed window.
Ward grabs Patrick. He snarls. Wild animal.
PATRICK
I took you in!
Ward pauses.
PATRICK
I gave you a room and a place to
sleep! I helped you.
WARD
But you owed me nothing. And I owe
you nothing.
Lizzie stumbles to the meteorite.
PATRICK
You owe it to her. Because. You
would hurt her. If you killed me.
Youd hurt her more than you could
do with your hands.
Wards mouth hangs open as he takes in the implications.
Lizzie snaps off a JAGGED CHUNK of the meteorite.
Ward turns.
Lizzie screams and rakes her new dagger across his face.
Punctures his eye. Slices through his lip and down his chin.
She picks up the meteorite with her bare hands and thrusts
it into his chest. He falls back. He screams. Hes burning,
smouldering, smoking.
Patrick pulls her and the meteorite to the van.
65.
INT. BLACK VAN - DAY
Lizzie collapses in the back. Patrick revs the engine. Its
still working.
EXT. GAS STATION - DAY
The van screeches away, louder than Ward, but not by much.
INT. SECRET GOVERNMENT FACILITY - NIGHT
Total darkness.
Total silence.
A fluorescent light flickers on, loudly. A silhouette in a
doorway. Its Patrick.
Lizzie is asleep in a CRAMPED BUNK-BED, alone. Her dreams
are vivid and frightening. Shes not comfortable.
Patrick pulls up a stool and sits beside her.
PATRICK
You awake?
She doesnt respond.
PATRICK
Ive got everything I wanted.
MONTAGE:
INT. SECRET LABORATORY - DAY
Patrick directs a TEAM OF YOUNG & ATTRACTIVE SCIENTISTS.
Patrick oversees TWO ENGINEERS performing invasive tests on
the meteorite sample.
Patrick submits a report to Everybodys Board. Its a
positive assessment.
INT. MAYORS OFFICE - DAY
Nobody and TWO AGENTS speak with the MAYOR.
They pass him pictures of the meteors. The Mayor nods.
66.
EXT. TEMPORARY COLLECTION FACILITY - DAY
RANDOM TOWNSFOLK crowd around a kiosk, giving up the
METEORITE SHARDS theyve collected.
Stanley is among them.
Nobody and the other agents pile the pieces of meteorite
into more Black Vans.
Stanley tugs on Nobodys shirt. Nobody ignores him.
INT. SECRET LABORATORY - DAY
A BLACKSMITH melts the meteorites down into liquid metal.
The Blacksmith creates a METEOR SWORD. Hes proud.
The Blacksmith peels back his sleeves in a bathroom. His
arms are scarred and cancerous and bubbly and burned.
A CHEMIST synthesizes more of the liquid metal into a
STRANGE PUTTY-LIKE SUBSTANCE.
The Chemist covers a TEST DUMMY with the Putty. Hes
surprised at its effectiveness.
The Chemist coughs up blood. His hands and throat are
burned. Skin peels off.
Patrick creates a TWO-HANDED LASER GUN, the inside lined
with meteorite metal. Looks like the Half-Life 2 Grav-Gun.
Patrick tests out the Laser Gun. He blows a hole through a
CONCRETE TESTING WALL. He smiles.
Patrick blinks. His vision is going funny. He swallows.
END MONTAGE:
INT. SECRET GOVERNMENT FACILITY - NIGHT
Lizzies eyes flutter.
LIZZIE
Everything?
Patrick nods.
67.
PATRICK
And theres something with the
meteorites. I didnt want to tell
anyone, cause I dont know if Im
dreaming, but maybe theyre ...
trying to contact me? Ive got
everything I want and maybe its
driving me insane.
LIZZIE
Everything you want. Including me.
Patrick looks in her eyes. Theyre both expecting the other
to say something first.
LIZZIE
Its alright.
She sits up. She holds Patrick by his shoulders.
LIZZIE
You couldve told me.
PATRICK
I tried to. But then you showed up
at my door with a monster.
LIZZIE
I did, didnt I?
She wraps her hand around his bald head and brings him in
for a kiss.
PATRICK
What is it with you and dangerous
people?
LIZZIE
Are you dangerous?
PATRICK
Not like Ward.
She pauses.
LIZZIE
No, I cant do it.
Patrick is disappointed.
LIZZIE
I dont think I can do anything
right now. I mean, Ive been shot
and crushed --
68.
He cringes.
PATRICK
Oh my god, Im sorry, I hadnt even
considered --
LIZZIE
Dont you dare apologize! How long
have you been after this? Four
years? Five years? Ever since you
gave that stupid fucking lecture at
my college, was that it?
PATRICK
Pretty much.
LIZZIE
Not gonna lie, thats kinda
pathetic.
PATRICK
Yeah.
LIZZIE
See you, Patrick.
PATRICK
Right.
He gets up. He stops at the door.
He opens his mouth to speak.
LIZZIE
(interrupting)
If it wasnt for all this shit
going on ...
Patrick smirks.
PATRICK
I know.
He shuts the door. The room goes dark.
EXT. CITY SKYSCRAPER - DAY
Ward crouches at the top of a SKYSCRAPER. His eyes have
healed but left a nasty scar. He looks over the city. He
snarls like a predator.
He jumps off.
69.
EXT. POLICE HEADQUARTERS - NIGHT
Ward crashes through the roof. ANALYSTS jump up from their
seats and scatter. Ward ignores them.
LOBBY:
Ward smashes away a ROOKIE COP going for his weapon. The
other cops call on their radios while they escape.
EVIDENCE:
Ward stares the RECORDS LADY in the eye. Shes terrified.
WARD
Id like my suit, please. Would you
kindly retrieve it for me?
She scrambles out of her chair.
Ward waits patiently.
She comes back with a bundle of RED & BLUE FABRIC all folded
up.
WARD
Thank you.
INT. MAYORS OFFICE - DAY
Stanley steps in. The Mayor motions for him to sit down.
MAYOR
Mr. Senator.
STANLEY
Mr. Mayor.
MAYOR
You said it was an urgent matter.
STANLEY
Yes. Its about the meteors --
MAYOR
Those are the least of our worries.
STANLEY
I dont think they are. You know
what they did to my daughter. And
its been no different anywhere
else. I mean, some people like your
(MORE)
70.
STANLEY (contd)
beloved Elizabeth Smalls can touch
this stuff, but some people really
react to it. Like Stephanie, I
dont know what she was doing with
the drugs but it wasnt the drugs
that got her, it was the meteorite.
It burned her hands and her face.
MAYOR
What are you saying?
STANLEY
This wont be a popular opinion, I
know. But maybe ...
The Mayor waits patiently for Stanley to continue.
STANLEY
Maybe Ward is here to protect us.
To protect us from the meteors.
MAYOR
Thats fucking preposterous.
STANLEY
I think youve thought about this
just as much as I have. He only
kills in self-defense.
The Mayor slams the table. Papers go flying.
MAYOR
You fucking lunatic!
Self-fucking-defense?! HE MURDERS
CHILDREN!
STANLEY
Cancer patients!
MAYOR
What?!
STANLEY
They were sick, all of them. Some
only had a few weeks to live.
MAYOR
How the FUCK does that --
STANLEY
(interrupting)
Hes not human, hes alien, hes
got a different code than us, he
(MORE)
71.
STANLEY (contd)
thought he was merciful! It was out
of mercy!
MAYOR
Who gives a shit? My niece --
STANLEY
(interrupting)
-- wouldve DIED ANYWAY! The
meteors hit the fucking hospital!
Ward can protect us from the
meteors, and you know more are
coming, theyre coming for this
city, I dont know why but they
come here and Wards the only one
who can fight them.
The Mayor takes a deep breath.
MAYOR
Listen --
INT. SECRET LABORATORY - DAY
Lizzie walks through the lab. She looks fine, but most of
the GEEKS arent doing too well. Being so close to the
meteors has taken its toll.
Patrick talks to a few of the younger scientists.
LIZZIE
Hey. We almost done?
PATRICK
Yeah.
LIZZIE
Your team aint looking so good.
Patrick coughs.
PATRICK
I know. I know its dangerous.
LIZZIE
That van driver.
PATRICK
Nothing is that dramatic yet.
Nobody calls out through a MEGAPHONE.
72.
NOBODY
Alright, geeks. Stop what youre
doing and prepare yourselves. Its
time to begin the game.
INT. SECRET GOVERNMENT FACILITY - DAY
Six GOVERNMENT AGENTS gear up. Four have Ghostbusters-esque
POWER-PACKS with PUTTY BLASTERS. The fifth has the Meteor
Sword. The sixth has the Laser Cannon.
INT. SECRET LABORATORY - DAY
The six agents march through the laboratory, smiling and
waving their new weapons. They all look a bit sick,
bloodshot eyes, chapped lips, but theyll be fine.
NOBODY
Right. We draw him out with Lizzie
as bait. She wants to reconcile,
dont you Lizzie? Youre willing to
talk things out with him.
LIZZIE
And when he talks, you hit him.
NOBODY
Exactly. Well put you on
television in a secure location,
put on a little show. Well keep it
up until he notices and tracks you
down. Dont know long itll take,
so lets be prepared for an
overnight stake-out.
PATRICK
Putty first, then hit him with the
cannon, then go in with the sword
if hes still up. Try and get him
through the heart. Remove his head,
whatever it takes.
NOBODY
Everybody briefed?
The six agents nod.
NOBODY
Then lets get started.
73.
EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - DAY
Lizzie stands in the middle of the construction site, in
broad daylight, with her arms outstretched. CAMERAS
broadcast her location.
The six agents spread out. They hide in the wreckage.
Lizzies phone rings. She picks it up.
WARD (OS)
Lizzie. I figured out how phones
work. Sort of.
Lizzie smiles to herself.
LIZZIE
Im by the construction site.
Theyve got me on camera. I just
wanna talk to you.
Click. Lizzie puts the phone away.
She spots movement by a nearby skyscraper. Man-sized figure,
falling.
Dust on the street level.
Ward bursts into the construction site. Hes wearing his
SUPERSUIT. Its red and blue, with a cape. Skintight,
rippling muscles. A frightening SNAKE design is imprinted on
the chest.
He slows as he approaches Lizzie. He reaches out to her. She
lets him.
LIZZIE
And Mina let the creature Orlok
into her chambers. So engrossed in
her beauty did he allow the morning
light to cast him away to nothing.
Wards not listening. He clasps her broken hand. He holds it
to his mouth and kisses it.
Her fingers heal. Her eyes widen.
LIZZIE
Oh my god.
74.
INT. SECRET LABORATORY - DAY
The doors burst open. POLICE OFFICERS and SWAT TEAMS pour
in. Dozens of them, armed with guns. An FBI OFFICER helms
the assault. He flashes his badge to anyone who looks.
Patrick is absent.
The FBI Officer steps past Nobody. Nobody stops him.
NOBODY
What is this?
FBI OFFICER
Were shutting it down.
NOBODY
Whose orders?
FBI OFFICER
Government. POTUS.
NOBODY
I am the government.
FBI OFFICER
Is that so, kid? Cause Im fuckin
FBI, look at my fucking badge. Who
the fuck are you?
Nobody grimaces.
NOBODY
Im Nobody.
FBI OFFICER
Thats what I thought --
NOBODY
(interrupting)
Its just a title. Look, my names
Alistair Clark, I pay my damn
taxes, I commute to work every day,
Ive got two kids. I work here.
What do you want from me? Im doing
my job. Im taking out a threat.
FBI OFFICER
I dont think we even have a word
for the kinda radiation spilling
out of these fuckin meteors, get
my drift? You aint stopping Ward,
youre making things worse.
75.
NOBODY
Weve been studying the meteorites
for weeks. Who else but us should
have them?
FBI OFFICER
The bloody aliens who shot them at
us, thats who! Were shutting this
down. Were gonna communicate with
Ward, see what he wants. Peaceful
resolution, negotiation, et cetera.
NOBODY
I thought we didnt negotiate with
terrorists.
FBI OFFICER
You think youre fuckin funny?
The police scour the laboratory, confiscating equipment and
meteorite shards.
One police officer screams. His flesh melts off his face. He
grabs his face in pain but it only melts through his
fingers. He collapses, dead.
FBI OFFICER
Everyone stand the fuck back!
They all stand back. The cop shrivels up on the floor.
Silence.
FBI OFFICER
(whispering)
Where is Knowles.
Silence.
FBI OFFICER
Where is Patrick Knowles?
EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - DAY
Ward brushes Lizzies hair away from her face.
LIZZIE
Youve killed --
WARD
Its not my fault.
Shouting. Ward looks around in surprise.
76.
LIZZIE
Ward, I literally did the same
thing to you last week. Why did you
think this was gonna be different?
Putty sprays out from hidden locations.
Lizzie ducks away. Ward reaches for her but his arm sticks
in the putty and she slips from his grasp.
She backs away.
LIZZIE
Im not sorry. Im not.
The agents step into the open, spraying putty. Ward is
trapped. He disappears under a heap of goo.
The LASER AGENT raises his weapon. Lizzie grabs him.
LIZZIE
Wait. Wait until hes in the open.
We dont know how itll react.
The agent nods.
LASER AGENT
How long do you think --
Ward bursts out of the goo. It sprays in all directions. A
globule hits one of the agents. He screams. His PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING catches fire. He screams louder. His skin melts,
but its SILVER skin, SILVER blood, liquid insides. Odd.
LIZZIE
Now!
A laser beam arcs through the construction site.
In slow motion Ward flips through the air. The laser beam
slices through his cape, but misses the rest of him.
Ward lands, crouching, hand on the ground, looking up.
Snarling. Apex predator. The tatters of his cape float down
behind him like ash.
He leaps for an agent. Dodges a spray of putty. Kills the
agent, silver blood, silver insides like the other. Leaps
for the Laser Agent. Kills him too. Silver blood. The agents
arent human, apparently. Ward knocks the cannon away, but
it doesnt break. Its intact. Lizzie dives.
77.
Ward tosses a chunk of concrete and hits two agents with it.
They explode in a puddle of silver liquid. There are three
foes left: Lizzie, the SWORD AGENT, and the last PUTTY
AGENT.
Lizzie scrambles behind the Sword Agent. She whacks the
laser cannon in frustration. It hasnt recharged yet.
The putty agent sprays Ward. Its not very effective. Ward
steps on him, crushing him, smearing silver liquid all over
the ground.
Sword Agent steps up, holding the weapon defensively.
Ward stares him down. Theyre far away. Facing off. Looks
like its gonna become a duel.
Ward tears out a MASSIVE STEEL PILLAR from the ground.
SWORD AGENT
Oh shit --
Ward smashes him with the steel pillar. The sword breaks.
The agent breaks. Silver liquid sprays everywhere.
LIZZIE
Ward!
He roars. She roars. She fires the laser cannon. He dodges
the shot by flying straight up into the air -- then straight
down, SMASH -- shockwave, Lizzie falls back.
WARD
Im going to kill every one of you!
LIZZIE
Of course you are!
Ward points to his suit.
WARD
Im powerful again! Im going to
kill everyone in this fucking city!
The cameras zoom in on his face. Hes being broadcasted.
LIZZIE
I thought there was more to you but
theres nothing else. Youre just
an animal, thats all.
An AIRPLANE swoops by.
78.
WARD
Get down.
LIZZIE
What? No!
WARD
Get down!
Ward covers her. Hes big enough that there arent even any
air pockets.
The BOMB lands.
Lizzie blacks out.
Dark. Ringing. Flames licking up as we fade back in.
Lizzie blinks. She groans. Her back hurts. She gets up. Ward
is gone.
She was lying on the Laser Cannon. Its still intact.
She looks out to the skyline.
A HELICOPTER buzzes past, firing machine guns. Ward is
FLYING. He smashes through the helicopter. It crashes.
Ward hovers in mid-air. Hes far away but he can still see
her. Lizzie picks up the Laser Cannon.
Two more helicopters approach. Ward blasts away one with a
BEAM OF PURE ENERGY. He tears away its BLADES as it falls.
He throws the blades towards the other chopper, impaling it
and killing the PILOT.
Lizzie aims the Laser Cannon. But hes moving too fast, hes
too far away, and then he disappears around a BUILDING.
Through a building. A building collapses.
INT. SECRET LABORATORY - NIGHT
Lizzie stumbles into the lab. The Laser Cannon is heavy.
The secret laboratory has been taken down. Nobody sits in
the centre, smoking a CIGARETTE.
LIZZIE
What is this?
79.
NOBODY
They found us. They shut it down.
LIZZIE
Wheres Patrick?
Nobody smiles.
INT. WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
Patrick wears a WELDERS MASK as he works. He pulls a GUN on
Lizzie and Nobody before he realizes who they are.
He puts the gun down. He flips up the mask.
PATRICK
Sorry. Im a bit jittery.
Lizzie looks around. The warehouse has a lot of the same
equipment from the Secret Laboratory, evidently moved over
before it was all shut down. A few of the same scientists
are walking around, as well.
PATRICK
Weve been working on a suit. Its
fitted to my specifications. Hope
you dont mind the narcissism.
Patrick shows off the METEORITE SUIT, displayed in full
view. Its bulky and elaborate and shiny.
PATRICK
Fueled by my own power source.
He taps two FUEL RODS embedded in the shoulder blades.
PATRICK
Clean, efficient, nigh-unlimited.
Itll burn out before tomorrow if I
turn it on. Havent worked out the
kinks yet. Havent tested it.
LIZZIE
Cool. Whered all this come from?
Why do you have a warehouse?
PATRICK
I had a friend who set it up for me
last week. He wanted you to come in
for him, help him out --
80.
LIZZIE
Me?
PATRICK
Yeah, you. Dont worry about it;
Im pretty sure hes dead.
Patrick flicks on a small TELEVISION SCREEN. The city is
burning. Ward fights an organized MILITARY ENGAGEMENT. He
shrugs off TANK BLASTS and MISSILES. Then he disappears.
NEWSCASTER (VO)
(background)
Whered he go? I cant see him,
whered he go?!
LIZZIE
Its been going on for hours.
NOBODY
My kids.
Lizzie and Patrick turn to him.
Nobody takes a deep breath.
NOBODY
Theyre not here. Theyre with my
sister in Ohio. Theyre safe.
PATRICK
Okay. Okay, stay with me. Wheres
Everybody? Wheres your boss?
NOBODY
He can take care of himself.
INT. SECRET GOVERNMENT FACILITY - NIGHT
Ward bursts into the Door.
Everybody smiles.
WARD
You created weapons that could hurt
me. How did you do it?
Everybody gets out of his seat.
WARD
Tell me. Theyre coming. Theyll
destroy this facility looking for
me. You know it.
81.
EVERYBODY
I do. You killed me when you
stepped into my Board.
Ward raises his fist to one of the Wax People.
WARD
Tell me or Ill kill him!
Everybodys eyes widen.
EVERYBODY
Please dont.
A beam of energy sprouts from Wards hands. The wax figure
melts into a puddle of SILVER LIQUID. Everybody recoils from
the heat. The other figures start to melt as well. They
collapse into gooey silver puddles.
WARD
You think you can trick me? I know
who you are! I know you all!
Everybody is on the brink of tears.
EVERYBODY
What have you done.
The facility shakes. Bombing.
EVERYBODY
What have you done!
Everybody explodes into LIQUID.
Ward roars in surprise. The room goes superhot. The silver
figures melt. Ward wades through the pools of silver on the
floor. Everybodys liquid burrows through the ceiling.
But Ward blasts it with fire, and the liquid falls to the
ground in burning chunks.
INT. WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
Nobody, Lizzie, and Patrick share a few beers. Some of the
older scientists have joined them -- WHITEBEARD and
GREYBEARD. Nobody is in his civvies: shirts and a t-shirt.
Its a look we havent seen.
NOBODY
You wanna know how I got this job,
cause Ill tell you. Im nobody,
(MORE)
82.
NOBODY (contd)
its not just my name. Alistair
Clark, he was a data analyst, he
want anybody, wasnt good at his
job, nothing. And poor old Alistair
goes to visit his parents out in
the wilderness, and a meteorite
lands on his car. And kills him
instantly. Ten years ago.
He leans in. Lizzie leans in.
NOBODY
But imagine youve travelled across
time and space for thousands of
years, barely alive, and you land
in a world populated by robots the
size of mountains, primitive
robots, no smarter than monkeys and
gorillas, with their circuitry all
laid out in front of you simple and
intuitive as can be. You find a
robot, a dead one, and you discover
you can simply crawl into its
brain, restart it, and move it
around to your liking. How long
would you last? How long could you
blend in with the other robots?
Its starting to dawn on Lizzie what he means. Patrick has
already figured it out.
PATRICK
I cant speak for myself ... but I
imagine youve blended in well.
Nobody nods. His eyes flash SILVER.
NOBODY
Almost perfectly. I mean, I took in
his kids as my own. For years.
Lizzie reaches out.
LIZZIE
May I?
Nobody nods.
She peels back his mouth and looks at his teeth, his tongue,
his throat.
83.
LIZZIE
Looks human to me.
She releases him.
NOBODY
Well, it is human. But its just a
shell, thats all. I bet it thinks
its doing all of this voluntarily,
on its own free will, but it isnt.
It only thinks it is. Even speaking
now, it thinks its in control.
LIZZIE
Seems a bit cruel.
NOBODY
Poor Mr. Clark died over a decade
ago. All Im doing is recycling the
body. Its not cruel, its a
reasonable measure under desperate
and unusual circumstances.
LIZZIE
See, thats how I know youre an
alien. Nobody says that kinda shit.
Nobody grins.
NOBODY
Hence the name.
LIZZIE
So how long do we have? I mean,
hes not gonna fall for the same
shit again. He knows Im trying to
kill him. Hes not an idiot.
NOBODY
We dont have long. He changes
shape, you know. Every world he
attacks --
LIZZIE
So he destroyed your home.
Nobody is silent.
NOBODY
Yes. I never saw it. I was the
eighth generation on our ship. But
I know Ward. The stories we told
about him were exaggerations ...
but not by much. Hes unstoppable.
84.
PATRICK
Except for your meteorites.
NOBODY
We brought them with us so wed
have a chance to kill him if he
followed us. We hoped he wouldnt.
Were not strong on our own, you
realize that? Youre bigger than
us, all of you, massive and thick
and stoic and powerful, all of you.
Less than Ward, but more than me.
Smarter, too, some of you, like a
race of superheroes. Immutable.
PATRICK
Flattering.
NOBODY
I dont have much longer. I figure
maybe a few weeks, a month before
my host degrades into what you saw
in Everybodys Board. Wax figures,
you called them. We have a short
lifespan on your planet.
Nobody pulls out a cigarette. He lights it.
NOBODY
It took us ten years to figure out
just what you are ... and whether
you could succeed where we failed.
And I think you can.
LIZZIE
Well, now weve got a laser gun and
a power suit.
Nobody nods.
NOBODY
When the sun rises, hell be at
full power, and hell blow your
city into shreds like an atomic
bomb. Itll be the first.
PATRICK
Whats your plan?
85.
EXT. CITY STREETS - NIGHT
The Black Van races through the streets, headed towards a
huge SKYSCRAPER. It has a SATELLITE DISH on top.
Above them, Ward smashes through military JUMP JETS and
HELICOPTERS. Catastrophic damage.
On the ground in front of them, HUMVEES and TANKS roll
across adjacent streets. Rubble coats the ground.
On the outskirts of the city, the highways are in gridlock.
Many cars abandoned. People are escaping on foot.
INT. BLACK VAN - NIGHT
Nobody drives. Theyve got the laser cannon in the back.
Patricks skin is blistering. Lizzie is fine.
The Meteorite Suit lies on a STRETCHER.
NOBODY
God, it must seem like Ive been
planning this forever, but it aint
like that at all. Im making things
up as I go along, you understand?
Patrick examines Lizzies hand.
PATRICK
What happened here?
LIZZIE
He ...
She debates whether to tell him.
LIZZIE
He healed me. I dont know why. Or
how. But he did it.
PATRICK
I might remind you he broke your
hand in the first place.
LIZZIE
Yeah ...
NOBODY
You two buckled?
86.
LIZZIE
Nah.
NOBODY
You should be.
INT. CITY STREETS - NIGHT
The Black Van races through rubble and explosions and
raining metal chunks. Ward smashes through buildings
overhead. Hes on a rampage.
But close up, Ward is scared. Overstimulated. He has no idea
what hes doing and hes frightened of himself.
More meteors fall. They burn red and yellow and blue and
green and white all at once. Ward dodges them expertly in
the air. Helicopters and buildings arent so lucky. The city
is falling apart as everyone watches.
Its on the scale of a natural disaster.
INT. PARKING GARAGE - NIGHT
They step out of the Black Van. They carry the Meteorite
Suit on its stretcher. Nobody hefts the laser cannon.
INT. ELEVATOR - NIGHT
The elevator doors close.
PATRICK
Which floor?
NOBODY
The very top.
He clicks a hidden button.
LIZZIE
Spooky.
EXT. SKYSCRAPER ROOFTOP - NIGHT
The roof is unfinished. SCAFFOLDING and abandoned
CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT. The satellite dish swivels
imperceptibly. Its huge.
Patrick props the Meteorite Suit against a wall.
87.
Nobody peers out to the streets below.
LIZZIE
Is he coming?
NOBODY
Ohhh, fuck.
LIZZIE
Hes coming.
NOBODY
No, its --
Nobody swallows.
NOBODY
Ive lived here for a decade. And
its falling apart.
The building shudders.
LIZZIE
Shit, you know what?
NOBODY
Enlighten me.
LIZZIE
Youve lived here longer than I
have. In this city. Im a human
being, and youre an alien, but
this is more your home than mine.
Nobody smiles. He leans on the laser cannon.
NOBODY
Then I did my job well.
The wind howls. Patrick steps up to them. Hes wearing the
suit. His face is covered.
PATRICK
(muffled)
How do I look?
Lizzie looks him up and down.
LIZZIE
Like a fuckin supervillain.
88.
PATRICK
Perfect.
He steps off the edge of the building and drops.
LIZZIE
Patrick --
She leans over the edge to see him FLYING. The power sources
on his shoulders emit massive JETS OF ENERGY.
EXT. CITY STREETS - NIGHT
Ward lands on the ground, showering concrete in a wide
angle. A tank is crushed. Soldiers explode into blood.
Vehicles all around him short-circuit from energy pulses.
Ward has grown superpowerful. His very presence destroys
electronics and machinery.
Patrick lands behind him in a similar shockwave. The suit
creaks and hums as he stands.
Ward howls.
WARD
Do you think you are a champion? Do
you think you can defeat me alone?
Patrick says something, but its inaudible. His jets
activate, and he hovers high off the ground.
Ward shoots off after him.
ANTI-AIR BATTERIES on the ground fire at both of them. They
dodge bullets and rockets expertly.
Ward tries to land a punch on Patrick, but hes ridiculously
fast with his suit. Ward is easily outmanouevred. Patrick
lands a few hits. Glancing blows, but enough to grab Wards
attention.
But Ward hits Patrick. Straight to the chest.
Doesnt do very much. Patricks suit is lined with
Meteorite. It burns Wards hand. Ward shouts.
Patrick pummels him. Hes got the upper hand.
They crash back to the ground. Soldiers converge on their
position. Bullets fired.
89.
Patricks suit can stop Wards punches, but not bullets.
They tear through. Blood leaks out of the holes.
Ward lets loose a huge EMP pulse, blowing Patrick and the
soldiers back. Patrick activates his jets and flies away.
The soldiers arent so lucky.
The sun is about to rise.
Ward breathes heavily. Its almost time. He roars. He flies
off after Patrick.
EXT. SKYSCRAPER ROOFTOP - NIGHT
Patrick crashes into the roof. He tears off his helmet. His
skin is burned beyond repair. Theres no way hell survive.
PATRICK
(croaking)
Now.
Lizzie nods. She takes the laser cannon and aims it at the
satellite dish.
Ward barrels towards them, roaring.
Lizzie fires.
The laser collects inside the dish and fires out, focused
and intense and bigger than would seem possible.
The laser strikes Ward. He collapses in a burning heap,
blasting through a hole in the roof. He slams into the floor
below.
NOBODY
Heh heh.
LIZZIE
Oh my god.
NOBODY
Heh. We killed him. We did it.
LIZZIE
Maybe hes not --
Nobody grabs her and shakes her.
NOBODY
Ha ha ha! We fucking did it, we
killed that fucking scumbag, we
burned him and hes dead!
90.
LIZZIE
What are you doing?
Up in the sky, the BIGGEST METEOR yet falls down, headed
straight towards the skyscraper. Straight towards them.
NOBODY
Every meteor contains a little part
of me. We are everybody. We are
Everybody and Nobody, understand?
And Ward was the only one who could
stop us. And we killed him.
Lizzie slowly nods her head.
LIZZIE
Of course. Of course. Youre so
good at acting the part.
NOBODY
I am. Im the best. I killed the
Great Destroyer. I killed him. I
lived in your society for years --
LIZZIE
But you still havent figured us
out, have you?
NOBODY
Of course I do, I --
Lizzie pushes him off the roof.
Nobody falls. She watches him hit the ground. Very tiny. He
explodes into silver goo. Dead.
PATRICK
(croaking)
Lizzie.
She rushes over to him.
The Biggest Meteor races towards them.
The sun rises. The entire rooftop is bathed in orange light.
Its beautiful.
Its morning.
LIZZIE
Oh my god, Patrick, Im so sorry --
He grins. Cracked lips. Burned tongue.
91.
PATRICK
I didnt have to do this, did I? We
could have done it without my
stupid inventions.
LIZZIE
No no no, dont you dare --
PATRICK
-- but Im glad I did it this way.
They caught it on camera. They know
it exists, the power cells on this
suit, everything.
LIZZIE
Theyve burned out.
PATRICK
I know. I have more. You know where
they are. Not here. Not in this
city. Theres still hope.
LIZZIE
What do you mean, still hope? We
killed him. We know what the
meteors are, and we can deal with
that, but we got Ward, and theres
not gonna be any more destruction.
Patrick laughs. It hurts him.
PATRICK
You know that didnt kill him. It
killed me, but not him.
LIZZIE
Oh my god, no, dont you dare --
PATRICK
Youre the smartest, most beautiful
girl Ive ever met --
LIZZIE
Dont you fucking dare!
The meteor is seconds away from hitting the building.
92.
INT. LOWER FLOOR - DAY
Morning light spills through the unfinished windows.
Ward groans and opens his eyes. Hes burned but intact. He
glows with eldritch power. He smiles.
EXT. CITY STREETS - DAY
The huge meteor hits the middle of the skyscraper. MASSIVE
EXPLOSION. No sound for a moment, then -- deafening roar.
The skyscraper collapses in on itself.
EXT. SKYSCRAPER ROOFTOP - DAY
Lizzie is thrown off the roof. She flails helplessly. Debris
explodes all around her.
Patricks body drops through the rubble. Buried. Gone, with
his suit and his power source.
EXT. CITY STREETS - DAY
More meteors rain down, in slow motion.
SKYSCRAPER:
Lizzie falls. She resists. Shes afraid, horrified, shes
going to die -- this is the end. Everything that came before
this was superfluous, everything about her completely
irrelevant, because she cant do a thing --
She breathes in. She closes her eyes --
She leans back and accepts it. Speed returns to normal and
she races towards the ground faster than possible,
breakneck, faster than the rubble and the gravity of the
building around her --
The ground rushes up ...
... but Ward scoops her out of the sky. Gently.
STREET LEVEL:
Lizzie opens her eyes.
Shes in Wards arms. He carries her like a baby. She
reaches up and touches his face.
93.
LIZZIE
Ward ... why did you ...
Ward looks up to the sky. More meteors descend towards the
city. He blasts them all out of the sky with beams of pure
energy from his eyes, from his pores, everywhere.
Soldiers and military vehicles close in on his position.
They dont fire. They just watch.
Bleary-eyed, Lizzie waves.
Ward places her on her feet. He embraces her with a hug.
WARD
Kiss me.
She stares at him for a moment, then gives in. They kiss.
He glows with energy.
And the energy explodes.
Nuclear blast, with Ward at the source.
In a fraction of a second all of the soldiers, tanks,
vehicles, meteors, buildings, concrete, all indications that
there was once a city --
-- gone.
Destroyed. Vaporized. Incinerated.
Millions of lives destroyed in an instant. Lizzies eyes
snap open. She tries to pull away but cant. She faints.
EXT. ENTIRE CITY - DAY
The city is engulfed in a expanding bubble of energy. Its
destroyed. All of it.
EXT. IMPACT SITE - DAY
Blackness. Silence.
For far too long.
Then --
Lizzie slowly opens her eyes.
94.
Ward is staring at her intently. He pulls her to her feet.
She cant bring herself to resist.
LIZZIE
What ...
She looks around.
Its flat. Rubble. Nothing left for miles. Apocalyptic.
LIZZIE
No.
WARD
Youre not like the others. Youre
special, Lizzie. Youre different.
LIZZIE
No!
She pounds his chest.
LIZZIE
You were supposed to be good! You
were supposed to be MISUNDERSTOOD!
Ward examines her with curiosity. Lizzie is practically
incoherent. In tears. Not even lucid.
LIZZIE
You werent supposed to kill
everyone ... you were supposed to
be misunderstood ... you werent
evil, you were good ...
Ward tilts his head. He pauses.
He smirks.
WARD
What the fuck could possibly make
you think that?
He scoops her up.
They fly into the night.
THE END
