2014

Class/Subject/Event: System Science

Grade: 9

This artifact demonstrates my progress toward becoming:

_____ One who manages time successfully.

One who exhibits effective leadership.

_____ One who is adaptable.

_____ One who takes initiative.

Respond to each of the prompts in 3 to 5 complete sentences.

Describe the artifact (i.e. background, context, goal or purpose of the activity or
assignment).

This system science project was about the health of the bay and we had to pick a subtopic
within the bay. My other group members were Ava Froble, Samhita Chundry and our
topic was on oysters and their contributions to the bay. We ended up finding that oysters
were important to the bay through the services they provide like being a habitat and
filtering the water.

Why did you choose this artifact to demonstrate your progress?

I chose this because this is where I was taking leadership in some cases when I wanted to
see how the group was doing and if they had any suggestions. These are some of the
times when I wanted to get input or to see how everyone was doing. Although to admit, it
wasn’t just me, Ava and Samhita did also assume leadership roles at points when one of
us needed to finish something.

Explain how this artifact helps to document your growth in this target area.

This shows that I am a leader that values input and that I want to have everyone onboard
when we are going to progress forwards in the project. I want to know what others are
thinking before I make some sort of plan of action or advise the one group member about
something. So I am a collaborative type of leader judging by my way of leadership.

Artifact Title: Bildungsroman Project Leadership

Class/Subject/Event: English 9

The purpose of this assignment was to make a website about a certain topic that had
something to do about southern literature. Our topic was on a bildungsroman which is a
type of novel that focuses on the psychological growth of a character. I was in a group
with Will Sharpe and Andrew Capstack and I (ironically) was mainly the manager of the
group despite the fact that Andrew was the manager.

Why did you choose this artifact to demonstrate your progress?

This shows that I will take leadership in a group when certain leaders aren’t doing their
job. My taking over of Andrews’s position shows that I am somewhat a micromanager
mixed with a little bit of dictator. I try to make sure that they are doing their job and that
they have it fulfilled.

Explain how this artifact helps to document your growth in this target area.

While I did manage this group effectively, I think that I didn’t do a very good job of
managing it. I just mainly asked questions and was pushing them to do what they were
supposed to do. If I find myself in a similar situation, I will tell them what to do and
when to do it, but then allow them to give me input on what they think and format the
schedule to their liking.
