The movie revolves around the protagonist Stanley Yelnats is wrongly
accused of stealing the limited edition Clyde sweet feet shoes. As a punishment he is then sent to Camp Green Lake, where he spends his day digging large holes in the desert. He is under the careful watch of the warden ; Louise Walker who is the grand daughter of Trout Walker. The Warden forces them to dig holes as she as an ulterior motive to find buried treasure. The climax of the movie is when Zero and Stanley were digging holes at night and they ended up finding Stanleys Great-Great- Great grandfathers treasure chest which Kissing Kate Barlow stole from him. This treasure chest is of great importance because it is what the Warden has been desperately trying to find.
The movies setting takes place at Camp Green lake; the detention camp, which is a fictional Lake located in Texas. The Lake was once filled with an abundance of water, however it eventually all dried up and is known as the desert where Stanley and the other juveniles are sent. The movie is set in the twenty first century, however there are occasional flashbacks to the 90s.
The point of view is omniscient, what this means is that the narrator is in charge of describing the characters emotions in particular that of Stanley.
The message in the story is regardless of the difficult circumstance that an individual finds themselves in, they must never give up hope. This is reflected through Stanley Yelnats the third who never gives up on his inventions of curing smelly socks.. There is also a message in having confidence in what you are doing , as seen through Stanley who is confident that there is always hope .
Throughout the movie the parts I enjoyed were when Stanley & Zero found the treasure chest that belonged to Stanleys great-great-great grandfather Stanley Yelnats the first and also I enjoyed the scene where Stanley and Zero were finally permitted to leave Camp Green Lake. In this scene it started to rain heavily, this was the first time that the juveniles had experienced rain.
I didnt like the scene where Trout Walker who was the wardens grandfather shot Kissing Kate Barlows lover Sam the Onion Man . By killing her lover, this led Kate to become a rebel who started to rob men ; her signature was known as the kiss of death , as after she robbed and killed these men she left a kiss mark on their cheek.
Yes during the entire movie I was generally interested, however to be quite honest there were some parts of everyone of the the movie which I didnt particularly enjoy. This included the scenes where there were flashbacks, I just didnt find the history captivating or enticing.
Yes I found the characters believable, because there were all very convincing in their roles. Especially I found Stanleys and Zeros character very believable as they were interesting to watch on screen through their facial expressions and their actions. I also found that they had the most interesting roles being both juveniles at the detention camp who path were inter-connected as Madam Zeroni was Hector zeroni ( Zeros great grandmother). The movie is suitable for intended audience as it is a family movie who incorporates many genres which allows it to appeal to many people. I would strongly recommend this movie for others to watch, as not only it is thrilling , but this movie also keeps you on your feet, as the storyline is not predictable and bland.
I give this movie a 4 out of 5 star rating, it is definitely enjoyable and worth all the 112 minutes.
